-------------------------------Despairing News--------------------------------
Kaguya was brooding over the documents in her hands, sitting within the dark office of Hsien-Shao’s. She hadn’t moved since her captain had left, now laying on the floor shamelessly as she struggled to figure out what it was that Hsien-Shao wanted to see.
She barely shifted as a knock sounded on the door.
“Yes, come in.” She said absently. A member of the secret remote unit of the Onmitsukidō was kneeling at the doorway as he opened it, head bowed.
“3rd seat Kaguya Kagamine, I have a report for you and your captain.” The man said in a flat, clipped tone. Kaguya just shifted her papers casually.
“Captain Wong-Ling is out on ‘business’.” She replied with a yawn. “I’ll relay the message to him upon his return.”
“Right. Captain Kurotsuki and Captain Tochigo’s mission to use Lieutenant Locksley as bait to lure out the Shirubaraito was successful, to an extent. Although they managed to ascertain the immense strength of the enemy, they were not able to capture or even defeat him. Lieutenant Locksley’s whereabouts are currently unknown—”
“What?!” Kaguya was on her feet in an instant, eyes wide in shock. “That is impossible! Fai went with my captain on whatever business he was doing!”
“This report is definite.” The Onmitsukidō assured. Kaguya’s hands gripped tightly.
“Whose stupid idea was it to use Fai as bait?” She demanded in a low voice.
“I’m afraid I cannot simply divulge such information—”
Kaguya drew her sword fluidly in a perfect example of Iaidō, cutting the top most part of the Onmitsukidō’s wooden hat, showing his hair, which now had a style resembling a buzz cut.
“My mood happens to change quite dramatically.” Kaguya murmured as she gripped her sword once more. “My vice-captain is currently missing. If you don’t want the next strike to split your forehead, you’ll ‘divulge’ the information fast.”
The Onmitsukidō remained still, a sweat rolling down the bridge of his nose as he remained silent. Kaguya’s eyes narrowed dangerously.
“Haven’t you ever heard the expression, ‘don’t shoot the messenger’?” A voice sighed from behind the man. Kaguya looked up to see Captain Kakura Kurotsuki standing at the door way, behind the Onmitsukidō. “He can’t just disobey orders even if you threaten him.”
“I don’t really care about his orders.” Kaguya seethed through clenched teeth. “I want to know what jackass is responsible for Fai’s dissappearance!”
“And then what? You’ll kill them?”
“I’ll give them a good walloping before searching for Fai.”
“Let’s just calm down, now.” Kakura held his hands up in a ‘stop everything’ gesture. “Even if I tell you who it was, you can’t go looking for Fai. If it was that easy, we would have found all the missing vice-captains now.”
“At least tell me whose idea this was, then!”
“It was a last minute decision by your captain, Hsien-Shao Bao-Wong-Ling.”
Kaguya’s eyes stared at him in disbelief for one long moment before hardening in fury.
“That jerk!” She cried at the top of her lungs. “I’ll pound him so freaking hard, he’ll forget how hard I beat him and I’ll pound him again to remind him!”
She continued to rage and Kakura motioned quietly for the messenger to leave, worried slightly for his safety. The Onmitsukidō nodded and bowed out of the room, closing the door. Kaguya was tempted to set off a bunch of kido spells within the office and wreck it before Hsien-Shao returned, just so she could vent her anger somehow while she waited to do violence to him.
And, she thought to herself in the back of her mind as she raged. He broke his promise.
“Listen.” Kakura took advantage of the moment Kaguya stopped to take a breath. He had to be jealous. All he wanted to do, at times, was throw a temper like her, without worrying about how he’d be viewed as a captain. “Your captain didn’t send Fai as a sacrifice. It wasn’t his intention to be caught.”
“He took the risk, and the bait was taken from the hook.” Kaguya chided herself mentally for using a saying like Hsien-Shao would have. “Even if it wasn’t his intention, it’s his fault.”
“Why are you so intent on blaming someone?”
“Because sitting here wallowing in self-pity is even worse. It’s like you said, I can’t act on my own and look for Fai—I have no leads. That’s why I’m going to make captain take responsibility and find a way through this.”
Kakura could only sigh. The fire in Kaguya’s eyes wasn’t going to die down. She was angry.
“You know, with Fai gone, you’ll temporarily be Captain Wong-Ling’s vice-captain again.”
This took Kaguya by surprise. She hadn’t even thought of that. She wasn’t happy, of course, and she still wanted to vent her frustration. But as vice-captain, Hsien-Shao would be forced to use her within this war and she’d be more involved in finding Fai…
Kakura watched in awe as the flames subsided. They weren’t doused; they had simply faded until they could blaze at another, more convenient time. He wondered what on earth could have had such a strong effect in his words…?
“Are you…” Kakura said slowly. “In love with Fai?”
“Hell no!” Kaguya shouted viciously.
