I really need to stock up on my Disney DVD collection...so far, all I have is The Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, and Alice In Wonderland. I'm gonna try to get Frozen, since it's probably still popular and in stores. I also wanna get the Soundtrack CD, but I know those two together might cost a lot. Huff Posted over a year ago

I used to have a bunch of them including direct to DVD sequels. My collections gone from about 50 Disney movies to 12, mostly because I don't like Disney as much as before. I've been getting rid of a lot. Also I was recently at target Frozen has gone down in price, if you live in the US it's about 15 dollars now on DVD, I think for the combo pack it's still $29.99 and blue ray is $24.99 so it's not as expencive. I'd give you my Frozen, but it won't go through the computer screen. X3 over a year ago

I'm pretty sure when I ask this question people are going to say they prefer Brave. But which movie do you think is better, Brave or Brother Bear? The similarities in this film are pretty obvious and yet Brave is the one that's usually considered better. But I actually think Brother Bear is the better films. The animation is gorgeous, the characters are likable, the main character is well-developed, the songs are great (it's freaking Phil Collins), *continues to type in comments* Posted over a year ago

The relationship between the brothers is amazing and realistic, the score is incredible, and the culture is so interesting. This film really only has two problems and unfortunately they're kind of big problems, those two moose's and the modern talk that happens after Kenai turns into a bear and a majority of it is there when he's a bear. If they had fixed those two problems, I think the movie would have done A LOT better and people would really love it. I don't even really mind Koda, he's just a regular little boy who tries to act tough and that's kind of typical for a lot of little boys. I also love how it doesn't really have a villain but instead just a misunderstanding. The whole, what happened to the mother is kind of obvious, even as a kid I knew what happened when I first saw it, but it something that has to be in the story. *continues to type in comments* over a year ago

I rewatched Frozen tonight and surprisingly liked it more than I remembered, though the plot gives me headaches. It is so flawed! The pacing (not counting the songs) and the tone of the movie are spot on, nearly perfect. But the obstacle, the problem to be solved, in the story doesn't make sense to me! Why would the elderly troll erase Elsa's powers of Anna's memory. How would it help her? If he didn't want to traumatize the little girl, he could just have removed the incident. Posted over a year ago
Silverrose1991 commented…
And further on traumatizing little girls: has he no tact? He frightened Elsa! I'm not saying he should hide the nature of her magic from her, but he should have come to her in a sensible way, or privately told the parents first. Which brings me to my next point: the parents. Why, oh why, would they lock Anna away? I can understand their ignorance when it came to handling and helping Elsa, but forbidding their other daughter of going outside and make friends and play and grow healthily?... What's their logic behind it? over a year ago

^Their plan is in: why they locked Anna up as well. I agree with Silverrose1991. I like the movie better, but it has huge missteps in logic. over a year ago

I agree Silverrose. The Grand Pabbie warns her that fear will be her greatest enemy, then shows her a terrifying image of villagers killing her over her powers, which is sure to traumatize her. Then her parents decide to lock her away and browbeat her with fear of herself, her powers, and the outside world. The conflict is flimsy and idiotic at best. over a year ago

Today I watched Who Framed Roger Rabbit and it has made it into my top 50 favorite Disney movies. Although the only two weak points of the story are the poor mystery (ironically) and the lame villain. But the human is hilarious, it's a fun story, the characters are likable, and I love seeing timeless animated characters like Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse interacting with one another. That's AMAZING! I think Roger and Jessica are a FANTASTIC couple *continues to type in comments* Posted over a year ago

She's someone who could have any man in the world that she wants but she doesn't choose the smartest, the richest, the best looking or anything. She chooses someone who doesn't see her as a sex toy (like so many other men do) but sees her for who she is on the inside and knows that she's a good person and of course someone who makes her laugh. They truly love each other and are one of the best Disney couples and maybe even one of the best fictional couples out there. They show that it doesn't matter what's on the inside but what's on the inside and how dedicated they are to each other. It makes me even love these two characters even more. I actually think Jessica is pretty now, not because I love her because I've always loved her, but she's not gorgeous. It's an amazing movie that I recommend if you haven't seen. over a year ago

Today in my psychology class, we were talking about identity and my teacher brought up a point that makes me even more defensive of Ariel and other Disney Princesses. He said that in life, while you want to please people and fit in, in the end what really matters is that you make yourself happy. Your friends, parents, and spouse may disapprove but it's your life. You won't always have your parents with you, *continues to type in comments* Posted over a year ago
KataraLover commented…
Spouses and friends aren't always guaranteed to be with you forever. You're the only one you were born with and will die with you. You need to be happy with yourself, make your own choices, not care what people think, not let someone else run your life for you, or let someone decide what your identity is. If you're not happy with your life than you really don't have a life or an identity. This is why I love Ariel, she doesn't let anyone define her identity except for her. She chooses to make her dreams come true and find herself. Also Jasmine, Merida, and Pocahontas, they're being forced to marriage but they refuse to let that happen because they know it's their life and they have a right to decide what's going on in their life. Besides, most people in a loveless marriages and have lives that are being lived for them usually end up being suicidal. *continues to type in comments* over a year ago

Some of you might know that last night I watched Fantasia, well I just finished watching the sequel, Fantasia 2000 and it was great. The animation (minus Rhapsody in Blue and The Carnival of the Animals, Finale) is absolutely GORGEOUS! The Carnival of the Animals, Finale's animation is cute but not spectacular. Rhapsody in Blue's animation is absolutely inferior. The stories are great, minus Symphony No. 5 in C minor-I. Allegro con brio, which is BORING. *continues to type in comments* Posted over a year ago
KataraLover commented…
The Carnival of the Animals, Finale isn't great but it's good, just not amazing like the others. The music is absolutely spectacular. The celebrity appearances were kind of lame but they don't both me too much. The Sorcerer's Apprentice's animation was fantastic but compared to the amazing animation of the others it kind of looks dated and out of place, but it's still fantastic. My favorite part was the ending, Firebird Suite! It's absolutely flawless! The stories did have more of a plot to them, despite being short. But again, while I think this movie is great, it has the same problem the original had, no coherent story or dialogue. Yeah, yeah, save me that crap about that being the point of the story because I don't care. But with this movie, it works because, besides the beginning, it doesn't have any slow parts that drag. *continues to type in comments* over a year ago
KataraLover commented…
But the celebrities do kind of take away the seriousness that the original movie had. But the original only had one story I was in love with and one that I kind of loved. It also had three that I found BORING and the others I liked but were kind of boring. This movie has only one story that I don't like, only one that I like but don't love, and the others are great. I do find it strange the the original was 2 hours long and this one is just as long as a direct-to-video sequel, despite being an official Walt Disney Pictures film that was released in theaters. I think it could have used another story or two but at least it's not too long like the original was or dragged. While the animation in the original was gorgeous, the animation in this movie is even better. I think it might even be in my top 10 best Disney animation. It's not among Disney's best but it's still great and I recommend it. over a year ago

I've been thinking about Frozen a lot today, and have been debating with myself about one of the most unclear moments in the movie: Anna thawing. From what I can see there are two options:

1. Anna's love for her sister and her sacrifice is the act of true love that thaws her own heart. This is supported by the fact that after she thaws, Anna replies to Elsa's "You saved me." with "I love you".

cont. in comments Posted over a year ago
Aang_Lite commented…
2. Elsa, after realizing how much Anna loves her and is willing to sacrifice for her, is finally finds the courage within herself to not be afraid and love Anna back. This love is then what unfreezes Anna. After thinking about it for quite a while I think this is the message that Disney was trying to get across, that it was Elsa who saved Anna. But as stated above the movie makes it seem that Anna saves herself. I wanted to hear your opinions. What do you think truly saved Anna? over a year ago

Last night I watched Fantasia and I surprisingly like it. I still stand by my belief that Fantasia's main problems are the facts that it doesn't tell a coherent story and it has no dialogue. I know people think that's its charm but I don't. Anyway, the animation is gorgeous, the best animation in the Classic era, even better than Bambi's animation. The music is spectacular! My two favorite stories are, of course, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, and Nutcracker Suite *continues to type in comments* Posted over a year ago

Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, Intermission/Meet The Soundtrack, and Dance of the Hours are the most boring stories in the movie. People say that the animation in Sleeping Beauty is a Picasso like animation, but I completely disagree. The animation in Sleeping Beauty always looked awkward looking to me, it's not bad but not good. Why did I bring this up? Because Fantasia, especially in Nutcracker Suite, is the real moving Picasso painting. I think this movie was more meant for adult than it was for kids because it's more mature and is actually 2 hours long. Props to Disney for also appealing to adults. Is it great? No. Is it breath-taking with amazing music? HELL YEAH! I don't love it but I like it, I actually remember watching this in kindergarten or 1st grade in my music class. I'm still not a big fan of the movie but I do highly recommend it for the animation and music. over a year ago

I don't think it can be objective because different people have different ideas of what are good character traits, and what decisions/behaviors/mannerisms they think people should emulate. When Walt was alive most people loved Snow, Cindy and Aurora because they were very sweet, gentle, demure, and ladylike. These days most people see them as submissive doormats. Some people see Ariel as a great role model for being daring, fearless, and going after her dream. Others find her reckless and idiotic for it. I have a great Children's Literature professor who adores all children's books. She often sings their praises for their creativity and endless possibilities. "Not like Disney." At first I was offended, then realized she made a good point. With children's books, you can write about ANYTHING. With Disney, you have to follow the formula. Disney princess movies especially have a strict formula that stifles creativity since they all have to fit the Standard Disney Princess Movie Formula. Posted over a year ago
Tygers_Eye commented…
I've often grossed that Frozen wasn't a more faithful adaptation, yet the vast majority of responses are, "Well, of course they wouldn't follow it closely. It's Disney." "Of course they couldn't follow it closely since the audience couldn't relate to The Snow Queen" (SHE WAS NEVER MEANT TO BE THE MAIN CHARACTER!) "Of course they changed the child Gerda to the pre-teen Anna, no one wants to watch a child protagonist/we can't have a child princess." So basically, it couldn't be faithful to the source material because Disney had to conform the story to fit the now-standard Disney Princess formula. Same with Merida with marketing. "Of course they made her gussied up, they can't sell toys with her looking wild/ugly/tomboyish," "Of course they had to change her so she'll fit into the princess lineup." In other words, they have to change her to make her fit into the cookie-cutter assembly line of pageant-pretty princesses. over a year ago
Tygers_Eye commented…
No film or heroine creativity allowed. They all have to fit the mold, and those that don't get changed until they do. For all their talk of "be yourself," Disney sure demands strict conformity, from their movies, heroines, and even audience. (Dream that fairy tale dream, little girls! Even if you like the tomboyish Mulan and Merida, we know you REALLY like them for those pretty dress they were unwillingly stuffed into.) over a year ago

I was thinking about Disney princesses and heroines earlier today, then got to thinking about when Disney first started branding and marketing Disney Princesses, then got to thinking, "Why an official line of only some princesses? Wouldn't they make more money branding all of their iconic heroines instead of only a select few?" What's more, they let in non-princess Mulan, but keep out actual princesses like Eilonwy and Kida. Now I'm questioning the existence of the Official DP lineup. Posted over a year ago
princesslullaby commented…
the disney princess line is purely a marketing brand- and they're using the word princess on a non-royal sense. the point of the brand is that any girl can be a princess, which is why it makes sense to have mulan in there. also, mulan was a commercial and financial success. they're not gonna waste money including princesses that don't market well such as kida and eilonwy. don't forget their target audience! those movies did not appeal. remember, all the princesses except jasmine were the main characters of their film, but aladdin was one of their most successful films, jasmine was the first POC , and it had a strong commercial appeal. it's purely business. over a year ago
Tygers_Eye commented…
^ You're not really helping their case. You also missed the part where I said, "Wouldn't it make more sense to market all of their heroines instead of just a handful"? I remember Megara, Esmerelda, Tinker Bell and other Disney gals were heavily merchandised when I was little (because they were popular with young girls too), but they've fallen to the wayside since the Official Disney Princess lineup came around. I also think it's foolish to keep out a princess because their film didn't do well in theatres because society's attitudes about films change over time. A lot of society's current favorites didn't do great at the box office, but that have gained more recognition over the years. If it's "purely business" (then WTF are we here???), why not take advantage of every princess and heroine in their arsenal? over a year ago

Something Disney Princess related I thought I'd share with you. When I saw in the car with my mom we got into a discussion about Frozen and I mentioned how Elsa has no personality and is just a blank slate. However, my mom brought up a really good point that does kind of give Elsa an excuse, that she doesn't express her personality because she's afraid of what she can do. Anna is full of personality and wants to show it to be greater than she is *continues to type in comments* Posted over a year ago

But Elsa is afraid of expressing herself and showing her personality because she's afraid of what she can do and what she could be. I still think she has little to no personality but that point got me thinking. It annoys me how people will just brush off how Ariel does consider not taking Ursula's deal because she'll never be with her family again just because it only lasts a few seconds. So I'm not going to be a hypocrite for once and acknowledge a good point about my least favorite Disney Princess when I come across one. So props to Elsa. over a year ago

I said that it was my opinion tygers, fiina, I don't see any mistakes? Can you explain? over a year ago

Well the snow doesn't look realistic at all and characters don't act naturally around it. It's like it would be some kind of flour or sand, like it's not cold. On the other hand it's sometimes like plastic, like Olaf. Also while it clearly seems to be frost the characters still make snowballs etc. And when Anna and Kristoff jumped on the cliff they should have been dead. I have also jumped to the snow banks from the roof and to not hurt myself there should be at least 30-40cm frost snow which is almost same as Anna and Kristoff had in the movie. Except they fall 200m, not 2. If they had more snow they should have fallen as deep as the snow was, but they were just barely covered. During the movie there's also great deal of disappearing footprints. The blizzards however do look pretty good but the snow on the ground have some obvious mistakes in almost every scene. So there's few, I should write an article to mention all mistakes my friends and I have noticed. over a year ago

Today we discussed fairy tales in my Children's Lit class, and inevitably the subject of Disney came up. Lots of people learned that the "true love's kiss breaks the spell" motif was started by Disney, not the original stories. No, Silly Symphonies only covered a few, and Disney's movies only include "The Little Mermaid" and "The Snow Queen." Posted over a year ago

So if you don't want spoilers and such, better stay clear of theWDC Spot. :) Also, I've recieved the Big Hero 6 Junior Novelization, so if you want to, I can scan some of the Pages from that as well ;) Posted over a year ago

I wish some of the other Disney clubs were more popular, since it's fun to talk about characters beyond the princesses. I wanted to do an article on animated heroes but there doesn't seem to be a club for them. even in Disney Princes, it's kind of dead. maybe we can try posting there more? Posted over a year ago

I know what you mean, I'm really tiring of talking about the same characters over and over again. I love this club for the people and the creativity, but must of us already know how we feel about certain things and most polls are just usually repeated. I wish the Disney club or CAMH club was just as active too open the variety a bit. You could always just make a poll here with a link asking, "Will you read my article on the Disney prince club," and I'm sure people will be sure to read it. ^_^ over a year ago

I agree. I rarely go to other clubs because of the lack of activity, but I guess that makes me a hypocrite-wanting a club to be active, but doing nothing about it. over a year ago

So here is my theory on where the Anna is with the ducks in For the First Time in Forever. A lot of you guys say that she had to have been outside the gates, because in the castle there is no forest area, there is just a courtyard. If you look at the castle of Arendelle, however, you can see a wall of the castle that goes up the mountain. I think that that wall leads up to a forest garden area where Anna found the ducks, which is still inside the castle walls Posted over a year ago
JungleQueen13 commented…
I think when people are getting hung up on small things like that, they're getting too nitpicky. over a year ago
Tygers_Eye commented…
I just don't understand how you think it's far more likely that the royals spent tons of time and money to set up a huge stone wall that they have to walk along for several miles up the mountain to visit a little garden (which would be a pain for anyone to get to, not to mention difficult and expensive to pay gardeners to maintain for how far, difficult to reach, and out of the way it is), instead of there being a little garden between the indoor castle and the outer walls that keep people out. I don't understand how you think it's far more likely that Anna ran several miles along the wall up the mountain to dance around a garden for 10 seconds, only to run another several miles down the mountain back to the castle to fantasize about a guy, instead of dancing 10 feet outside the castle to dance in the courtyard, had a second wind ("What if I meet The One?"), then darted ten feet back inside. over a year ago
elsa98 commented…
^There's no need to get so feisty! I watched frown again today and I saw the spire. I agree with you that it is inside the castle walls. (I think we've kind of been misunderstanding each other) I'm saying it's a possibility that it could be along the wall. I said that because some people said that it couldn't be inside the cattle because there wouldn't have been food and things for the Ducks to live. I agree that is inside the castle, but if it's not then it could be along the wall. that's all I'm saying. In the picture I posted there is a courtyard, but from what I can see there's no trees or anything in that. I think it would be around on the left side of the castle, in my photo. I was just saying its along the wall more as a back up for other people who think it can't be in the castle itself over a year ago

Fact is guys, you´re going to be in arguments A LOT when you grow up and it´s best to learn as early as possible how to deal with them! It´s unhealthy to try to avoid confrontations just for it to be all - We are all friends, let´s dance on rainbows together! I found her being very lively, fun, exciting, amusing, gorgeous, and most of all INSPIRING <3 My respect toward is increasing a lot. She is the first Renaissance after the Dark Era, she's the one who leads Disney into a brighter future. Her character is very original and the pioneer the new, fun, bubbly, determined, strong-headed, expressive 3D girls. Though I love her as human better, her mermaid form is very attractive and popular as mermaid is now known as a red-headed with bluish green tail. Not to mention Jodi Benson's voice, it is as clear as a bell. over a year ago

Example, I totally love The Lord of the Rings 3. It's my favourite movie and I'm absolutely proud of it that it is one of the three movies which are worthy to win 11 Oscars. Wait, what? Now it's just like you think that I love the movie because it won 11 Oscars. Yes, Frozen brings honour to WDAS because it's the highest grossing animated movie, the fifth highest grossing movie of all time (so far), and the first 3D WDAS movie ever to win Oscars. Well, you can see, Anna is my fourth favourite. Nay, I love her not because of Frozen is phenomenal. If I'm like that, then Avatar (2009) is my favourite movie since it is grossed so high (the highest grossing movie of all time and also won 2 Oscars) that even a phenomenal movie from the big studio cannot reached even the half of the movie's gross. Ridiculous! Now, do you get what I mean? over a year ago

Another thing, I never have the intention to insult the classic princesses. What I meant is that the sweet, motherly, and caring princesses are no longer what the majority loves, doesn't mean I dislike them. But that's fact. It's just like you love old cars when there are new ones. It's okay, it's your own opinion, but the majority prefers the new ones, right? Will the old cars market in this 21st Century? over a year ago

I watched Mulan with my beau today. I used to complain here that the film doesn't have a dark or serious enough tone, but today I realized it does a great job of mixing the dark with the comedic. It also has a lot of great subtext, nuance, and symbolism. It's amazing how many scenes get across so much information without a spot of dialogue (like Mulan's decision to take her father's place in the army), and shows so much about the characters in brief, wordless scenes. For example, during the matchmaker song my beau commented that he loved how the film got across that Mulan was clever, helpful, and had a strong sense of justice with really brief scenes of her solving a difficult checkers move after looking at it for two seconds, or giving back a doll to a little girl that some boys took. Same with many other characters, who get brief scenes that convey so much more about them than if other characters kept saying over and over "You don't know how to have fun" or "All you know how to do is shut people out." over a year ago
