Because the world can never have enough comic book movies!
Hollywood’s love affair with comic books took decades to come to fruition, but today there are few more sought after properties than superheroes in modern day cinema. In the last year alone, we’ve seen Guardians of the Galaxy, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier topple box office records the world over.
The runaway success of such films has paved the way for dozens of future projects, but not every filmmaker has enjoyed the same level of fortunes when they delved into the world of superpowers and tights. For every Batman Begins and Iron-Man that actually makes it through the development process, there are a ton of comic book movies littering the studio shelves in development hell.
Sure, we know about the ones that look like they would’ve been terrible (Tim Burton’s Superman Lives comes to mind), but what about the aborted superhero movies that more than likely would have been awesome?! From Joss Whedon to Quentin Tarantino, there have been plenty of big names who had their best intentioned adaptations crash and burn on the way to the big screen.
Today we will be shining a light on these failed projects. These are ten promising comic book movies that sadly never happened. Click “next” below and let’s get started.
