Remember when I talked to you all about how Barry Burton from Resident Evil was the best character in Resident Evil? Well, I wasn’t lying, honestly. I meant it when I said he was the best character. I bet you all thought that was just a little joke, but no. He really is my favorite character. Reasons why I was happy to have him back in Revelations 2. So, now is the time to tell you all why Barry Burton is the best character in Resident Evil.
First reason why he is great. Just listen to how he reacts. Even in the original game, he was the highlight of dialogue. The dialogue was really bad for him, but he always managed to make you laugh in a game that was so scary. But in the remake, he still manages to talk to you in ways that can be a bit humorous, giving you a quick laugh in a place as dangerous as the Spencer Mansion. Even after nearly getting crushed because you were too lazy to pick up the rusted shotgun and use it on the shotgun trap, Barry still manages to joke about it with you, and we all have a good laugh, because Barry is just such a wonderful individual. He really knows when to make some people laugh, or at the very least, know how to change the feeling of the situation by trying to lighten it up, given that you’re in a house full of death and monsters. Barry is just able to make you forget about the monsters, even if it is for just a little while.
Second reason why he is great. Whenever you are in danger, you can always count on him to come and help. When you’re attacked by Plant 42, instead of letting you fight it alone, or you know, die alone, Barry will come in with a flamethrower and help fight the plant for you, saving you from death. Then you’ve got the fight against Lisa, where he will take potshots at Lisa and distract her so that you can push the stones down and beat her. And finally, in the fight with Tyrant, Barry will help you against the fight, as long as you watch his back as well, making him one of the best Resident Evil side characters. He’s always got his back, and is never annoyingly in the way like Ashley or just totally broken like Sheva. Oh, Chris was there too, but no one cares about him.
Final reason why Barry is the best character. Just seeing him there. Being inside the Spencer Mansion is a very terrifying place. Zombies and monsters everywhere, your teammates are either dead, missing, or reanimated as zombies and trying to kill you, and Wesker is trying his hardest not to look evil despite wearing sunglasses in the dark. So, when you run into Barry, you know that you can get a little bit of peace. Seeing Barry is just like walking into the game’s save room. You feel safe when he’s around. But why do you feel safe around Barry? Is it that he has such a charming personality? Is it because you’re just happy to see another person within the mansion, and a living one this time? Is it that you can take a rest without worrying about zombies in the room? Or is it because Barry has a goddamn magnum that could mess those zombies up with one shot? I don’t know what it is, but just running into Barry makes you feel so much safer. You know that you are safe for now, and it’s all because Barry is there for you.
Now, before you go and say “Oh, this isn’t horror related”. It’s about Resident Evil in one way or another, isn’t it? Barry is just a charming, caring, and interesting character to be around, and I am so happy to have him back. And yes, he does kinda do the same thing that Rebecca from Chris’s side does, but he has a Magnum. Rebecca’s just got experience in medicine and managed to heal Richard, oh. Who needs medicine in a place where you're likely to die when you’ve got Barry goddamn Burton? Sane people, probably. But I’m not sane, so there you go. Take care.
Wait, Barry was in Mercenaries?!
