Remember back when I talked about Madworld? Remember how I said that it had a sequel that I never played? Well, good news. I actually managed to play the sequel, a little game known as Anarchy Reigns. Does this sequel live up to the first game, and manage to be just as good if not better, or should it be euthanized? Let us find out.
So, the first thing that Anarchy Reigns does better than Madworld is that it actually has more of a damn story to it. Yeah, imagine that, this thing actually has a freaking story. Anyway, the story takes place in a world ruined by nuclear war. It’s like Fallout, only it takes itself less seriously. You can play as Jack Cayman or as the game’s pretty boy, Leonhardt Victorion. Both of these guys are looking for an ex-bureau agent named Maximillion Caxton for their own reasons. Jack is looking for him because Max’s daughter had payed Jack to find him and bring him to her alive, but Jack wants revenge on Max for being there when his daughter was killed in friendly fire. Leonhardt is looking for him because he was his mentor back when he was younger, and does not believe that he has become a killer, and wants to bring him back alive instead of executing him. So you must now play both sides in order to figure out what is really going on. The story is…. a bit stupid, but at least it’s more of a story than Madworld, so there is an improvement from the first.
Throughout the game, you go through four different worlds, each having six of their own missions. Trust me, it is actually shorter than you’d expect. In fact, it is a LOT shorter. In fact I managed to beat this game in less than five hours. For a fighting game, that’s…. actually to be expected. Each world can be explored whenever you like, but trust me, it’s so barren that it’s not even worth it. The only thing you can do is run around and fight a few goons that come around here, to help break up the monotony. There are four different worlds in the main story, with many more in online mode, as well as some characters. There are some characters that return from Madworld, as well as some brand new characters. Some of the characters include the Baron, a pimp with flaming gloves, and his co-worker, Matilda. There’s Big Bull, leader of a bull gang. Rin Rin, and her sisters, Fei Rin and Ai Rin. There’s Edgar Oinkie, a fat pig guy. Sasha and Nikolai, both helpers to Leonhardt and members of the bureau. Douglas, a wanderer around a desert town. Zero, a cyborg ninja (Grey Fox, much). And the mercenary Durga and his transforming robot, Garuda. All of these characters have their own fighting style and unique personality and I love it so much. They really went all out with the character designs here. Also, for DLC… They have Bayonetta as a playable character…. Best damn character right there.
Now, my biggest problem with this game, despite the incredibly short campaign and very little to do in it, is the fact with the multiplayer. I mean, this is a 3D open world fighting game. This should be something awesome, right? Yeah, sadly it’s not. This game has an online multiplayer game… And trust me, it’s completely empty. I am not kidding, this thing is as empty as a politician’s promises. There is no one playing the online matches on this game. This is why there needs to be more splitscreen modes in games, because if not, how will we be able to even use the characters we unlocked when we can’t even play as them? The only way you’ll get to play this game on a multiplayer mode is if you just so happen to have two copies of the game, and give one to your friend, who just so happens to have the same console as you. That is the only way, so you’d better do what you can to get this game, because it sure as hell won’t be easy to get, that’s for damn sure.
And like I said before, there isn’t a whole lot to do in this game. There are some fun fighting moments in the game, but then there are some stupid things, like protect a Barbot from monsters, ride around a car to the checkpoint, or… kick around a goddamn ball into a hole while enemies stand around and do very little to threaten you. The missions range from okay to just plain pointless. The side missions do, anyway. The main missions, however, are just insanely fun to play in, as fighting enemies never gets old. But, like I said, this game has very little for the player to do. After you get through five hours of this game, you will realize that that’s just it. Just five hours of side missions and story missions and very little else. For a game that calls itself an open world fighting game, there is very little open world to it.
Anarchy Reigns may not be a perfect game, and it definitely may not be as good as the glorious Madworld game was, but it’s a decent game nonetheless. I definitely had a lot of fun playing it, despite it being very short and not having a lot of potential. But, just like eating a bag of Doritos for lunch, it may not be much, and other people may question you for it, but screw those people, Doritos are delicious… Wait, what was I talking about? Oh yeah, Anarchy Reigns. If you like a game that will keep you busy for a short while, this is it. Just don’t expect something mind blowing or anything like that. Also, don’t bother going onto an online match, trust me. You might as well be walking into a gaming store that isn’t Gamestop, because it’s empty and will no doubt go out of business in a few weeks because much bigger companies are hacks. But, hey, that’s only my opinion. What’s Your Take
