Well, I already made a top ten, so let's keep the lists going. Seeing as how we are still in the Christmas mood, I thought, why not look up a few more Christmas themed levels that I sadly left out. So, a few rules as usual. Only one game per franchise, and they MUST be Christmas themed. Just a snowy field is not Christmas. Also, I am dropping my play before put rule for this list. So, with that said, let’s start the list
#5: Hollijolli Village from Mario and Luigi: Partner’s In Time
Man, talk about the most depressing sight for a Christmas themed level, and in a Nintendo game of all things. Hollijolli Village is the first level that Mario and Luigi arrive to when they first travel back in time. However, there isn’t any cheery yuletide goodness or whatever. No, instead, there’s just an empty desolate city that was once inhabited by people, and were now all taken by the alien race, the Shroobs, and the mayor was the only one who survived the attack….. MERRY CHRISTMAS! In each of the houses, there is a lit fireplace, a Christmas tree, and a pile of presents…. And debris, of course. Not to mention, a distorted version of Jingle Bells is playing in the background. As Christmas-y as all this is, I am still getting over the fact that this is the first licensed Nintendo game to feature Christmas, and when they do, they make it as depressing as possible.
#4: Snowflake Mountain from Diddy Kong Racing
Okay, so thankfully, we have a Nintendo game that has a nice looking Christmas level. Thank god for that. So anyway, Snowflake Mountain is the second world in the game, and has five levels in it. The first level is Everfrost Peak, which has you racing through the skies, with Christmas trees next to you. The next level is Walrus Cove, which has a very nice light cave of different colors, and a loop to go around… but ironically, no walruses. I’ve been lied to. Next is Snowball Valley, which has giant snowballs that try to crush you if you are not careful. Then there’s Frosty Village, which has you drive through a small snowy village, complete with street lamps and Christmas trees, and lastly, Bluey’s Course, which has you race against Bluey the Walrus (So that’s where the walrus was). Also, Bluey wears a dickie… yes, they still make those. I just love the Christmas theme here. Hell, it’s so Christmas themed, the poles at the finish line are replaced with candy canes. What’s not to love about that
#3: Winter Crash from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Yeah, I bet you weren’t expecting to see Call of Duty on this list, were you. Well, they made a Christmas themed level, and it doesn’t look half bad. Now, yes, this is the exact same level as Crash, but this is a bit more Christmas-y. For starters, instead of playing in the middle of the day, you play at night. There are Christmas lights all over the place, strewed from building to building. It’s nice to see some color in a game where the color scheme is usually greys and browns, like their using the Depression Colors. There are also dozens of candy canes placed across the map for everyone to see, both on ground and on top of roofs. And in the center of town is a crashed helicopter that ended up tilting a large Christmas tree. Just the effort that was put into this one map is real nice. Sure, it’s a reskin, but I love it. My only problem is that it is only available on the PC version, and not the XBox and Playstation versions (Unless you mod them, which I totally did)
#2: Halloween Town from Kingdom Hearts
Don’t let the name fool you. A part of this town actually holds Christmas Town. This is based off of my favorite holiday film, Nightmare Before Christmas. There are quite a few things to see here, such as the small snowy village and Santa’s workshop, where you can fight a few evil Jack-in-the-Boxes and evil bells (I don’t know) or just walk around and admire the small little town. And let’s not forget the boss fight against Oogie Boogie, who puts Sora and crew on a conveyer belt while trying to kill them with presents, a huge fist, and giant spikes…. (Again, don’t ask). Yes, I know, Christmas Town is a very short level. In fact, I’d go so far as to say it is easily the shortest level that has anything to do with Christmas out of any of the things on this list or any of the other lists. But, come on. It still has Santa, it still has the North Pole, it still has elves, it still has that wonderful feeling you get when you look at the lit houses in the snow. It’s not as big as Halloween Town but there is definitely equally good.
#1: How the Saints Saved Christmas from Saints Row IV
I HAD TO PICK IT! I KNOW IT’S DLC, BUT I HAD TO PICK IT! IT’S THE PERFECT CHRISTMAS LEVEL! FIRST YOU GO INTO A SMALL SNOWY TOWN WEARING AN UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATER, THAN YOU TAKE A BB GUN, AND ARE ATTACKED BY GINGERBREAD MEN, THEN YOU SHOOT YOUR EYE OUT WITH THE BB GUN, AND THEN YOU RING ALL THE BELLS IN TOWN, AND THEN YOU PLAY A CHRISTMAS MOVIE, WHILE FIGHTING EVIL NUTCRACKERS, AND THEN YOU GO TO THE NORTH POLE, AND DESTROY ROBOT REINDEER, AND THAN YOU FIGHT GIANT ELVES (Giant to them, normal sized to us) AND THEN YOU MEET MRS. CLAUSE, AND THEN SANTA GIVES YOU A GUN FOR CHRISTMAS AND YOU FIGHT THE EVIL SANTA, AND THEN YOU DELIVER PRESENTS TO SANTA, AND THEN YOU GO AND LIGHT A MENORAH AND STOMP THE FESTIVAL POLE, AND THEN YOU GO AROUND AND GIVE PRESENTS TO PEOPLE, AND CHUCK PRESENTS AT THE EVIL SANTA BEFORE KILLING HIM WITH THE STAR ON THE TOP OF THE CHRISTMAS TREE, AND THAN YOU GO AROUND MAKING A WHOLE LOT OF CHRISTMAS MOVIE REFERENCES AND IN THE END, YOU GET A CANDY CANE BASEBALL BAT, A SANTA AND ELF COSTUME, SANTA’S SLEIGH, A GINGERBREAD VAN, A ROBOT REINDEER, AND YOU GET SANTA, MRS.CLAUS AND GIANT GINGERBREAD MEN AS HOMIES! IT THE BEST CHRISTMAS THING EVER…… Sorry about that… but yeah, it’s great.
Well, there you have it. Did you enjoy the list? Tell me what you thought of it. With that said, I will see you all next time.
