Ah, yes, its Christmas time again and what better way to celebrate this time of year, then with a bunch of christmas movies. Now, remember, these are not the best Christmas movies ever made, its just my favorite. Second, they have to be movies I have seen. And, lastly, they have to be christmas themed in one way or another. So, with that, lets get started.
20: Jingle All the Way - Now, this movies may not be the best movie ever made, but, you have to remember… Arnold Schwarzenegger is in this movie. Holy shit, if that isn’t worth watching this movie, I don’t know what is. Anyway, this movie is about a father who is so busy, he can’t keep his promises from his son. Yeah, that hasn’t been done before (Liar Liar). Sure, this may not be the best, but, with the spirit of Christmas, it’s just great to watch
19 The Polar Express - Now, this is a movie about a boy who takes a train, with the conductor be voiced by Tom Hanks, to the North Pole on Christmas night. Now, I would put this movie higher, except, one thing. I watched this movie when I was six, and I have barely any memory of this movie. I remember a giant train, a large city in the North Pole, and… I think there was a hobo on top of the train that disappears. I don’t remember. I just liked the movie, okay
18: Olive the Other Reindeer - Now, this movie may not have aged all that well, and the animation isn’t the best by todays standards, but, this is coming from a guy who watched it at the age of six and has very fond memories of it. It is about a dog who hears of one of Santa’s reindeer being injured, so, she believes she will have to take the position of reindeer, while a postman, who is tired of delivering christmas letters each year, tries to stop her. Like I said, it isn’t the most recommended childrens movie, but it is still a great movie nonetheless
17: The Snowman - I remember this movie… well, barely. It is a voiceless animated feature of a boy who creates a snowman that comes to life on Christmas Eve. Sure, it sounds like Frosty the Snowman (We’ll get to that one later), but, the animation is very unique, and the style of it feels very mysterious and dreamlike. If you happen to see this while flipping through channels around this time, I recommend giving it at least one watch
16: Mickey Mouse’s Christmas Carol - Ah, here we are, a familiar face in the animation industry. The Christmas Carol has a large variety of spin-offs. This is one of those spin-offs. It is about Scrooge McDuck, who plays Scrooge (No shit, I’m sure you’re thinking) and is haunted by three ghosts of Christmas, and… well, you get the story. This is a very great, and at times, comedic special, and, I recommend it to anyone who is fond of Mickey Mouse specials.
15: How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Live Action Version) - Wait, this timeless classic is only number 15? Well, no, I am talking about the live action one with the Grinch being played by Jim Carrey, so, it is not the classic cartoon. IT is still good humor, with Jim Carrey doing an amazing job as a whacky villain, though, we have seen this before (Series of Unfortunate Events, which is one of my favorite film adaptations from a book). Sure, it ain’t the cartoon classic, but, it is still good fun.
14: The Christmas Carol - Now, lets talk about where all the Christmas Carol’s started… The original Christmas Carol. This is about a greedy man named Ebenezer Scrooge, who is haunted by three ghosts that make him change his ways. It is a great classic based of the Charles Dickens novel, and, for those who have not heard of it (Oh my god, where have you been all this time) I would recommend watching it, as it is one of the great classics you will continue to see on this list.
13: Elf - Hey, look, another Christmas movie with a well known comedian actor. This time, its Will Ferrell. This is one of the funniest Christmas movies I have seen to date. This movie is about a human who is raised by elves, who finds out about his greedy father and goes to New York to meet him. Just seeing Will act clueless in this movie is just hilarious, and, you should watch this movie, you won’t regret it
12: A Year Without Santa Claus - Now, here is a film that has gone into the void of forgotten classics. In this movie, Santa thinks that the world has lost all Christmas spirit, so, two elves travel to bring back Christmas spirit. Sure, its a cheesy idea, but, you have to remember, this movie was made before cheesiness reign supreme in movies, so its excusable. So, if you are looking for an underrated classic Christmas movie… which is like… 2% of you reading this…… then I would give this movie a try
11: Die Hard - Wait? What? Die Hard, one of the greatest action movies of all time, is a Christmas film? Yeah, weird isn’t it? But, it’s true. And, it is an amazing movie. It is about this guy who is trying to rescue hostages from a group of German terrorist who broke in during a Christmas party. This is an awesome action packed movie, and, it has one of the greatest catchphrases ever, but, I won’t say it, cause, you all probably know what it is. Still, if you ever wanted to see Christmas with action in it, then this is for you.
10: Home Alone - Now, how many of you saw this coming on the list? Probably all of you. ome Alone is about a boy that accidently gets left behind, while a duo of burglars try to break in and rob the house, only to get hit with dozens of traps set up by the boy. It is an amazing and clever movie that never gets old…. except when Home Alone 3 came out with the creator said, “Here’s your new Home Alone, everyone. Now give me all your fucking money, so I can wipe my ass with it, due to being so goddamn rich from all my success”..... But, were not here to talk about that shitfest of a sequel. Anyway, Home Alone is a great classic film, and I am sure you will enjoy it as well, for the 1% who haven’t seen it
9: It’s A Wonderful Life - WHAT? It’s a Wonderful Life didn’t make it to the top 5. No, because, I did not grow up with this movie like many others did. I only recently watched it. However, that doesn’t mean I hate it. It is about a man who tries to kill himself on Christmas Eve, but, he is visited by his guardian angel who shows him what everyones lives would be like without him. I may not have grown up with this movie, but, I can see why it is so loved. It is a great timeless classic, and I hope you all come to enjoy it, but, you all do, so….. yeah
8: Bad Santa - Now, the whole happy and family loving stuff has been done to death in Christmas movies, so, why not make a dark comedy about a drunk thief that dresses as Santa and hates kids? That is Bad Santa for you, and goddamn, it is hilarious. Like I said, it is about an alcoholic thief that hates kids, and dresses as Santa to rob shopping malls. However, when he meets this mentally challenged kid, he begins to change a little. It is a great, and a goddamn hilarious film that I would recommend… just, not to children…. EVER.
7: A Charlie Brown Christmas - Now, this movie is very relatable. I always enjoyed the Peanuts gang, and there Christmas special is no different. It is about Charlie Brown trying to create the best Christmas ever. This is very relatable, as we all have experienced this kind of stress once in our lives. It is a great special and, I recommend it to any Peanuts fan.
6; Frosty the Snowman - I said it would be here, and here it is. Frosty the Snowman is about a snowman that comes to life and needs to get to the North Pole before he melts, with the help of a little girl. It is a great classic film, and it is very heartwarming at times, and well, I really can’t say more. It’s a great film. Watch it….. NOW!
5: Santa Claus is Coming to Town - Now, here is a real classic film. This is told from a postmans point of view about how Christmas started, talking about the the first time Santa began making presents and giving them to children. It’s a very wonderful Christmas classic. It has so much nostalgia in this movie, that I am always glad to watch it every year, and, I am sure it is the same for everyone who watched this movie.
4: Gremlins - Yep, it’s another questionable movie on the list. This time, one of Steven Spielberg’s best. This movie is about man who buys a.. thing “I forgot what the original name was”, from a Chinese merchant, who tells him never to expose them to bright light, water, and feed them after midnight. However, when this happens, they all turn into a Gremlins and begin attacking the town. It is a wonderful movie, and, if you feel like getting a little freaked out on Christmas, then here you go.
3: Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer - Ah, yes, another classic film. This one is about a reindeer named Rudolph who has a bright red nose, and gets made fun of, but proves he is no different than any other reindeer. This is a great movie, proving that people are special in there own way. It is a great film, and, it still is even today. If you have not seen it (SERIOUSLY, HAVE YOU BEEN LIVING UNDER A FUCKING ROCK) Then watch it right away.
2: How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Animated Version) - Yes, I like the animated version of the Grinch more. For all you Jim Carrey fans, suck it up. Now, this movie is very great. I had already read the book by the time I watched the special, and I loved it. It is about a….. thing, that hates Christmas, and wants to do whatever he can to stop it from coming. It is an amazing classic film, and, it never gets old no matter how many times I watch it. And, I am sure, you all love it too
1: The Nightmare Before Christmas - Okay, how many of you saw this coming? Seriously, The Nightmare Before Christmas is Tim Burton’s best movie ever. not only is it my favorite Christmas movie, but it is also one of my favorite animated movies. The movie is about Jack Skellington, who is tired of doing the same thing every year, so, he decides to make Christmas his, which turns out to be a huge disaster soon. It is a great film. Hell, its one of the best animated movies I have ever seen in my life, and I still think so, even years after I watched it. What can I say, Tim Burton does a great job when he actually fucking tries (What the fuck is this Alice in Wonderland bullshit).
So, there you go. What did you think? did you like the list? Was there a movie you wanted to see on here? Tell me if you want. With that, I will see you all next time.
