Lorde Shares Details About Her 'Vision' for Curating 'Mockingjay Part 1' Soundtrack 

 soundtrack is out, Billboard is excited to share an exclusive video interview with the New Zealand singer-songwriter that finds her telling the story of how the whole project came together.

On hand-picking the songs and artists that wound up in the film, the 17-year-old pop star goes into great detail, explaining she first got involved when she was asked to contribute a new song to the end credits.

That song was the recently released "Yellow Flicker Beat," but thanks to her publisher\'s recommendation, she went on to curate the entire soundtrack, turning

"I was really interested in that because I love Katniss as a character," Lorde says. "I think she\'s so complex."

Selecting musicians to partake in the film wound up leading to some "crazy experiences," Lorde said, such as calling Grace Jones directly on the phone.

"It was really important to me with the soundtrack that people know how involved I was. A lot of that was me reaching out to people directly, having a conversation on the phone, sending an email, sending a text, because I wanted people to know that your song isn\'t just going to be flung into some pot and chosen later. I really cared about what was happening."

Other contributors she talks about are Charli XCX and Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran, as well as Miguel and The Chemical Brothers, whose track with Lorde, "This Is Not a Game," dropped Monday.
