Racist Hunger Games Fans Are Very Disappointed
The tumblr Hunger Games Tweets [wants to expose] "Hunger Games fans on Twitter who dare to call themselves fans yet don't know a damn thing about the books." What people are saying is disappointing, sad, stomach-churning, and just plain racist.

I thought that Kravitz as Cinna was a piece of inspired casting - sincerely one of my favorite casting choices in the whole film. But I didn't picture him as black, though for some reason he was tan.
Nonetheless, the race of Thresh and Rue shouldn't be a surprise, but if it is, it shouldn't be a big deal to anyone, and certainly shouldn't "ruin the movie" like it did for one of those Tweeters. Honestly, where is all the rage over race coming from, and why aren't these disappointed fans asking themselves why this is bothering them so much?
EDIT: I, for the record, thought Amandla Stenberg was also superbly cast in her role - she looked almost identical to how I pictured Rue. Kravitz, Stenberg, and Woody Harrelson were probably my top three casting favorites in that film, although there was not a single character I did not think was well-cast. I was very happy with this cast.
I mean, honestly, I hadn't pictured Rue and Thresh or Cinna as being black, but I loved the movie, and the people they cast were fantastic in the parts. Something as simple as race shouldn't ruin a movie for someone.
I always thought Katniss had brown/dark brown hair though....not black.
I remember the first time I saw a screenshot of Amandla Stenberg and I was stunned because she looked exactly how I’d always pictured Rue to look while reading the books. She had that perfect mix of innocence and inherent sweetness about her and I found her instantly endearing. I was thrilled that they seemed to have found someone that not only matched the physical description of the character, but who also managed to bring her to life so perfectly. When I came online after seeing the film to gush about my favorite parts, I was floored to see so many insulting, ignorant statements regarding Rue (and Thresh and Cinna, for that matter). It pains me to see that so much hatred and petty racism is still out there. So what if Rue isn’t white? Why should that have any effect on how people view the character? It’s absolutely horrible and honestly breaks my heart, because it’s showing the exact same attitude that these books are warning against - a lack of compassion and complete disregard for human life. The fact that it's over something as trivial as the color of someone's skin makes it even worse.
It’s just melanin, people. Honestly.
