I didn't get much sleep.
Maybe a couple of hours or so? I woke up, but this time, I was surrounded by people. My first instinct: Seekers! An old man was staring at me in the face, as was a small, blond female with the silver thread behind her eyes. I looked at her first, my face horror struck, my green eyes wide with fear. I couldn't help it: I screamed at the top of my lungs. Before I could finish my scream, a firm hand was pushed against my face, I kicked and hit the blond and the old man. They where not going to take me! Finally, I managed to bite the big hand, the man yelled and pulled his hand back.
I dove to my feet, I stretched up high, I didn't have time to count how many seekers where there. No -- I was not going to let them take me! Even though my legs ached and burned from sleeping, then jumping up automatically, I made them work. I was dizzy, horror struck, but I continued to run.
I only managed a few yards, running as fast as I possibly could, when I heard someone shout a name. It sounded something like "Melanie!" It might have been Miranda, or Melody. I don't know, I didn't have time to ponder at who's name they had called. I pushed my legs harder, they where strong, they could push up to high speeds.
I then heard the sand rustling behind me.
Out of instinct, I glanced over my shoulder. There was a female, she looked much like me but she was a tad bit shorter, was pushing her way towards me. She was going fast. Fast wasn't even the word for it. I didn't have time to admire what she looked like, I tried my hardest to go as fast as I could, but instead something hit me. Hard.
I fell forward, sand flying into my mouth as I hit the hot desert ground. I was coughing and gagging, I was out of breath. Someone was sitting on top of me! More like something was! I tried to scream again, I tried my hardest, but instead I began to cough some more. I was gasping for air, but instead sand kept choking me. I could hear other footsteps in the sand, they weren't as fast as she was, but I didn't care. This was it. This was the end. I had been careless, I just fell asleep. Five years of this and now I was going to be erased. Oh, no.
This time, I could hear everyone gathering around me and the girl who was sitting on top of me, crushing my lungs.
"Get off of her!"
"Good job babe!"
"She's not a soul!"
"She's human!"
"Quick, check her neck!"
And so on, I didn't listen, but the girl sat on top of me still. My breath was shallow, no more sand. My arms where pinned behind my back, and I was laying on my stomach, my right cheek pressed hard against the sand.
"Melanie! Get off of her!" It was a small voice, very perky and young. I wondered who it was. Melanie . . . that was a human name. Maybe the soul just took up the name of it's host.
Finally, the weight on my back is off of me, my arms fall limply too the ground. Where they this careless? This was my chance! I tried to get to my feet right away, but I just made it to my knees. I was coughing still, clutching my throat.
Who where these people?
