is yet to be renewed for a sixth season, though fans can rest assured that there is a plan beyond the upcoming fifth run.
The post-apocalyptic sci-fi is due to return in April, though some fans have been rightly concerned about its future.
However, speaking at the Winter Television Critics Association press tour, CW boss Mark Pedowitz reassured everyone that executive producer Jason Rothenberg does indeed have more ideas.
"I know [Jason] has a plan beyond year five," he told
, though admitted "it\'s too soon to have that discussion".
Pedowitz added: "He may have a six or seven-year plan to it. I don\'t know if I\'m allowed to even say that, that he has a plan beyond year five, but he does."
Rothenberg has said in the past that his plans run until season five, though has since admitted that it could go beyond that.
"When I said that a couple of years ago, I had this idea for how I wanted the show to end," he said last year. "But it was scalable and that ending could have been at the end of season three, it could be at the end of season five, it could be at the end of season eight.
"Those decisions are not really mine. I don\'t think that this is a show that runs for 10 seasons. But I love these characters and this world so much that it\'s fresh for me every year.
"We tell a different story every year so we don\'t get bored with it. I still have an end story in mind, but I don\'t know when that end is going to be and I feel very, very confident that I\'ll get to tell it eventually."
Pedowitz also revealed that a trailer would be coming for season five in "probably March", and that we can expect one of the "best seasons".
