Penguins of Madagascar Question

So... is it just me, or did anyone else get the 'jerk' vibe?

I finally saw the episode 'Neighbor Swipe' and I couldn't help but get the vibe that the penguins were total jerks through the whole thing. I was having a chat with my friend about the episode as we watched, and we wondered on what image that might've sent to younger viewers of the show and if they see the same things we did. The guys are supposed to be 'good guys' and acting all... jerkified doesn't give a good impression. My friend said, "Skipper's the jerk that saves the day. Not a hero by any means." And I can't help but agree with her. They certainly walk that fine line on occasion. So... I was wondering if anyone else have noticed that.

I always figure the penguins as jerks. X) They try to help if they can, but if it kind of gets in their way too much, they just leave the problem where it is and forget about it. I don't figure Private as one of the jerks because he's forced into all this stuff that the rest of them don't want to do. But, I find it really funny that they're all self-centered. X)
This is why I figure the show for older viewers, it sets really bad examples for children who don't know any better.

Eh, kinda. I guess I didn't think about it much when I watched the episode, but that was pretty inconsiderate of them to kick the lemurs out of their home just because they were tired of the music, and then expect to get send the lemurs right back again just because their new neighboor was worse. They never once asked the lemurs OR Roger what they thought of the arrangement.

Yeah. I mean Skipper was bothered while everyone else were bystanders. It's still not right to kick someone out of their own home. Skipper could have told the lemurs that sometimes music can be bothersome to others and that he should lower the volume of the music at least a little.

I would have thought he aleeady tried that... remember, the Lemurs aren't very negotiable.

Yeah, and this is a zoo, not a legit neighborhood. The penguins can't just be transferred anywhere else. They have to swap neighbors since there is no one else to enforce the lower music volume.

My opinion of the penguins: Sometimes, Skipper may be doing something that isn't the best thing in the world sometimes. He wants to lead his commando and doesn't really want to be disturbed by Julien, who often gets in the way of the penguins. I completely understand that. Kowalski and Rico are often bystanders, just doing whatever Skipper says since Skipper is the commanding officer. Private, however, realizes that something is wrong.

However, you also have to remember the times when the penguins did good (eg. when Kowalski reasoned with Skipper that he's not thinking straight in Operation: Break-Speare). Also, there are times when Skipper is right. Characters always have good AND bad qualities.
