Edward Kitsis & Adam Horowitz Wetpaint OUAT 02x09 'Queen Of Hearts'-

"Episode 9 is probably ringing some bells right away. Queen of Hearts = Cora, yes? Barbara Hershey has said OUAT will share her character’s backstory, including her history with Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle). We’re guessing that episode will be heavy on Cora drama. What about “Into the Deep,” though. Could that be related to our Leviathan speculation? "

OUAT 02x07-'Child Of The Moon' Meghan Ory Interview:

"In grand "Lost" tradition, "Once Upon a Time" has become adept at servicing every member of its strong ensemble cast, with at least one episode a season dedicated to exploring a character's fairytale history as well as their present-day arc. This week's episode focuses on Meghan Ory's Ruby/Red Riding Hood, who -- as we discovered last season -- has a Big Bad Wolf inside her that's always itching to break free.
In the Nov. 11 episode, Storybrooke experiences a full moon, and let's just say that the lunar cycle causes some problems for our crimson-clad girl. HuffPost TV caught up with Ory earlier this week to preview "Child of the Moon" and what's coming up for her character in Season 2.
Let's talk about this week's episode. In Storybrooke, Ruby becomes the prime suspect in a murder case. What else can you tease?
It's the first full moon after the curse is broken, and Ruby is very much aware that she may or may not turn into a wolf again. The fact that she is part wolf makes her the prime suspect when someone is murdered! Go figure, I don't know why they'd just assume it was me, but … [Laughs.]
Albert Spencer, a.k.a. King George [Alan Dale], has been lurking around Storybrooke recently. Does he play into Ruby's problem at all?
King George is up to no good in this episode, I've got to say. He's not being super nice to David [Josh Dallas] and he's not being super nice to Ruby either.
What can you reveal about her story in the fairytale flashbacks?
With Red, we're picking up where we ended last year, so we're very close after Red and Snow run off after Red discovers that she is a wolf and she's eaten Peter and the townspeople are after her. So it's quite soon after that in the timeline and how she's dealing with being a wolf -- which is not very well -- and we go into a little bit more of how she deals with her wolfness.
We know that she meets another wolf called Anita [Annabeth Gish] and a pack. Can you talk about their dynamic with Red?
There is another wolf pack, which is very interesting, led by Anita. She's a very strong, beautiful, mysterious woman who is the leader of this wolf pack, and she helps Red in her time of need, when she needs it most, and it's very interesting, their dynamic together.
Is that side of the story more about Red embracing her true nature?
Yes, exactly. Being with other wolves is definitely going to help her figure out how it is to be a wolf.
Red has kind of been Charming's right-hand woman in Storybrooke since the curse broke. Will that continue?
You're definitely going to see more of the Red and Charming friendship -- I can't really go into too much detail of what it entails, but we definitely expand on that and their friendship.
There also seemed to be a real friendship beginning with Ruby and Belle [Emilie de Ravin]. Has there been more development on that front?
I think that Ruby and Belle have a very interesting connection and I think Ruby is very much one to help people when they're in trouble because she's been in so much trouble herself, so I think she does everything she can to help people in need.
We've seen her using her sense of smell in a handy way in Storybrooke since the curse was broken. Does she have any more useful wolf abilities?
You're gonna see a little bit more of that for sure -- like other wolf-people combinations, there are definitely traits that have carried over into her real life and you'll see more of that in this episode.
Her last attempt at romance didn't go so well, since she ate Peter, but is there anything on the horizon?
I think that is the question, whether or not she's able to open up and love again after everything she's been through, so I'm very curious to see what's going to happen with that.
What about what you're filming now. Is there anything you can tease?
I don't know if there's anything specific because so many things happen, but I can say that you have to watch every episode, because so many things happen! It gets pretty crazy.
"Once" has such a great ensemble cast. Is there anyone you're hoping to work with that you haven't really had an opportunity to yet?
I'm dying to know the backstory behind the look that Ruby and Gold shared in the pilot. They shared a moment there and Robert Carlyle and I have speculated on what's behind that and we don't know and we would like to find out. [Laughs.] He gets around, that Gold."

OUAT 02x07-'Child Of The Moon' Synopsis:

"Down in the mines, the dwarves continue mining for fairy dust. They want to break for happy hour at Granny's, but Grumpy keeps at it. With one swing of his ax, he punches a hole through the mine wall. David arrives, they've found the diamonds that become fairy dust. The Blue Fairy tells David to lock up the remains of Jefferson's hat, they'll need it. They celebrate with that round at Granny's. Ruby cleans up and Billy the tow truck driver introduces himself as Gus the mouse from back home who lived in Cinderella's fireplace. He asks her out for a drink after work, but she says tonight's no good. Henry drinks coffee, worried about falling asleep and having nightmares. David assures him he'll keep him safe. When Henry leaves for cocoa, Spencer (King George) joins David to level veiled threats. David is not concerned. In the back at Granny's, she welds a cage for Ruby. It's the first night of "wolf's time" and Ruby is rusty at preventing the change after 28 years of not turning. It doesn't seem like her red hood made it to this side, so she doesn't want to take any chances. She locks herself in the reinforced freezer. Enchanted Forest Snow White and Red run from the queen's men. They fight a few off and keep running. Snow sees a wanted poster for herself for Murder, Treason and Treachery. Snow and Red hide in the woods and the men pass them by. Red notices a tear in her hood and worries it won't prevent her from turning during the coming full moon. She tells Snow they have to split up so she'll be safe, they'll meet up in the morning. As Red runs off, a man watches her go. His eye glows like a wolf's. Storybrook Granny goes to free Ruby in the morning but finds the freezer door knocked down and claw marks on the walls. Ruby is gone. In Henry's flaming nightmare, he's surrounded by fire on all sides, up to the ceiling. He screams as the flames lick at him. He sees a woman in a white gown on the other side of the room and calls to her, but he can't see her face. Henry wakes up. David got called away on an emergency so Regina is sitting with him. They notice a burn on Henry's hand. David and Granny find Ruby in the woods. She doesn't remember anything, but is worried she might have done something. Enchanted Forest Red wakes up in her hood in the woods. She goes to get water from a stream and leaves the hood on the bank. A man runs by and grabs it. When she catches up with him he holds the hood and threatens to burn it. His name is Quinn, he can recognize a child of the moon because he is one. He guesses no one taught her about what she is. He tells her she can learn to control it. He leads her to an underground grand hall. Everyone there is like them. He takes her to meet Anita, who says she is Red's mother. David and Ruby check on an abandoned vehicle, which turns out to be Billy's tow truck. Ruby smells blood. They find him in pieces. Ruby screams, thinking she did it. At the loft, Henry and Regina show Mr. Gold Henry's burn. He says the dream was a "side effect" of the curse. Gold explains when people fall under a sleeping curse their soul travels to a neverland where there it resides until they're woken up. The world is between life and death, but is very real. Even when the curse is broken, sometimes the victims find their way back to the other world. Gold can't keep Henry from going back there, but he mixes a potion that will allow him to control his actions in the other world. He puts the potion in a necklace amulet for Henry to wear while he's sleeping so he can control the dream. Because it's for Henry, Gold says the necklace is on him. David tries to assure Ruby she couldn't have killed Billy, but she asks to be locked up in the jail. Enchanted Forest Anita tells Red that Granny stole her away as a baby and didn't want her to know her true identity. Anita says she can teach her to accept the wolf as a part of herself to learn to control it. The first step is to get rid of the red hood. Storybrook David locks Ruby in the jail cell and chains it, putting the keys in his desk drawer. Spencer comes in to give David a hard time about protecting Ruby. He threatens to tell the town about Ruby as a symbol of David's bad leadership. Enchanted Forest Anita tells Ruby about the feeling of running with her fellow wolves as we see the pack running through the woods. She has to give into the wolf to be in control. In the morning, Ruby remembers all of it and says she doesn't have to be afraid any more. Storybrook Spencer riles up the townspeople about David protecting Ruby. They break into the jail but find Ruby isn't there. Granny and Belle help David hide Ruby in the library, with chains to lock her up. David worries about fending off the mob, and thinks he can prove she's innocent. Enchanted Forest The den of wolves hides when they hear footsteps approaching. It's Snow. Quinn grabs her around the throat and doesn't let go until Red explains she's a friend. Snow tracked wolf prints there. Red doesn't want to leave her new family. Snow understands. They're saying good-bye when an arrow flies in and hits Quinn. The pack quickly dispatches the queen's men, but Quinn doesn't make it. Storybrook With the moon about to rise, Ruby tries to convince Belle to leave for her own safety. She thinks the town is right to be afraid of her. Belle thinks David is right about her. But Ruby isn't convinced. Ruby locks Belle up so she can't stop her; she thinks she deserves whatever the townspeople do to her. Later, Granny follows Red's scent to the trunk of a car. She's not there, but an ax and her red hood are. David thinks the hood was taken so she'd have to turn. The car is registered to Spencer. Enchanted Forest Anita blames Snow for leading the queen's men to their den. She says this is why they kill humans, so they can't kill them. She plans to have the pack feast on Snow. When Red protests, Anita tells her to act like one of them and kill Snow. Red won't do it, so Anita turns to do it herself. Snow is tied up and can't get away as Anita the wolf approaches her. Red turns and tackles her. Anita ends up skewered on something. Snow turns Red back with the cape and Red apologizes to her mother, who says Red chose Snow. Red explains she chose herself, she's not a killer. Storybrook The angry mob, led by Spencer, hears a wolf's growl and follows it to an alley. Spencer prepares to fire on Ruby the wolf when Granny shoots the gun out of his hand with her crossbow. David addresses the crowd, telling them that Spencer killed Billy in cold blood so they'd question his leadership. As Ruby growls and cowers, David approaches her cautiously, saying he knows she can control the wolf. She sits down and he throws the cape over her. Red turns back into Ruby. Spencer runs off, Ruby and David go looking for him. They find him waiting for them on the edge of the woods by a roaring fire. He tells David he's never going to see his wife or daughter again. Spencer takes Jefferson's hat out from his coat and throws it on the fire. David draws his gun, but doesn't fire. "I told you, you should have killed me when you had the chance," Spencer says. Enchanted Forest Red and Snow bury Anita. "I didn't lose my family today, I protected it," Red says. Snow is the only person who ever thought it was OK for her to be a wolf and a person. Storybrook David and Ruby stand over sleeping Henry. David thinks he's lost the only way to find Snow and Emma, but Ruby is sure he'll find another way. She asks him to unlock Belle from the library, then goes to take advantage of the last few hours of wolf's time by running. Enchanted Forest, present Aurora sleeps and dreams her fiery nightmare. She sees Henry, with his necklace. He douses the flames and tells her not to be scared. Aurora wakes up and tells Snow and Emma that she met Henry."

2x07 - Child of the Moon
By Amy Degenstein-Hood

This week’s episode made Red and her history a bit clearer to fans. In season 1, we learned that Red was also in fact, the wolf. In a heartbreaking moment from that episode, Red attacked and killed the love of her life, Peter. Fans have been waiting anxiously for another peek into Red’s history, and this week was exactly what they were hoping for.

We begin this week in the mines under Storybrooke. The seven Dwarves have been mining tirelessly searching for fairy dust. Happy suggests they take a break and head to Granny’s to recharge, but Grumpy is not having it. He swings even harder in to the rock. On his final swing, the wall of rock gives way and inside the cavern they find what they have been searching for: Diamonds that can be turned to fairy dust. They now have a way to make the portal of Jefferson’s hat work.

Later in Granny’s we see Billy and Red talking. We had seen them flirt on and off through season one. Billy tells Red that he was a mouse named Gus who lived in Cinderella’s castle. Fans of the Disney classics will remember “Gus Gus” as the fat, lovable little mouse who helped Cinderella in the original animated film. So far we have only seen a creature that had already been human (Archie/Jiminy) revert to his human form in our world. In the original stories, Gus was always a mouse. It is unclear why he was turned human in our world, while other animals may not have been) Ruby finds an excuse to avoid going out with Gus that night because of the full moon. She is afraid that with magic in SB, there is a chance she might become the wolf and hurt someone. King George (who we saw last season as the District Attorney) is hovering in the diner. He sits down with at Charming’s table and tells him that even though he may have “Taken care of him” in FTL, they now had a chance to go at each other again. George is still seeking revenge on Charming, and this leads to the events that play out through the episode this week.

After closing, we see Granny and Red preparing a freezer by making it into a make shift cell. Granny jokes that the town would be shocked to find out her lasagna is frozen rather than homemade. Red tells Charming that even though she learned long ago to control the wolf, she can’t take any chances. Her cloak is missing and even Gold is unsure of its whereabouts. Not taking any chances, Red is locked in the makeshift cell for the night. When Granny returns the next morning, the freezer is torn to shreds and Red is nowhere to be found. Charming comes to help, and they find Red sleeping in the forest. She has blacked out and cannot remember the night before, or what she did as a wolf. Just then, Charming gets a call that someone has left their car illegally parked at the cannery and he has to go check it out.

In FTL of the past, we see Snow and Red running from the Queen’s guards in the forest. After they escape, Red realizes that her hood is ripped. Terrified that it might not keep her from changing into the wolf, she tells Snow they must split up just for the night. Snow is hesitant to leave her friend, but finally agrees. We then see Red awaken the next morning. She takes off her hood to get a drink from the river, and a man runs up and steals the hood. Red gives chase and finally catches him. After some playful banter, he divulges that he is also a wolf, and that there are many more of them. His name is Quinn, and he takes Red to a den. It is an old castle hall that has sunk beneath the ground. There she meets the rest of the pack. Among the wolves she meets is Anita, who turns out to be Red’s mother. Anita tells Red that Granny lied to her about her past, and that she was stolen away. She also tells Red there is a way to control the wolf and offers to teach her. In the evening, Anita shows Red how to control the wolf and how to keep from blacking out. When morning comes, Red is able to remember her night as the wolf and knows she doesn’t have to be afraid to turn anymore.

Back in SB, we see Henry inside his nightmare. There are flames everywhere and he can just barely see another person. The flames jump and lash at him, and when he wakes his hand is burned in real life. Regina is with him after David called her when he needed to leave on a call. She sees the burn as is afraid for him. She calls Gold/Rumple for help. When he sees Henry’s hand he tells Regina that all victims of the sleeping curse go to another realm. It is place between worlds where they are tormented. If they are awoken, they still can slip back in their dreams. Gold gives Henry a necklace to keep him safe in his dreams. Regina asks the price for his help. Gold tells her she could never afford a house call, but for Henry it is free. This might lend weight to the popular theory that Henry is actually Rumple’s grandson, and that his father is Bae.

Over at the cannery, Charming, Ruby and Red see the parked truck and Ruby smells blood. Granny finds Gus/Billy (half of him) lying in a pool of blood. Red screams and we see that she has discovered the rest of Gus, his legs, in a nearby dumpster. Red is hysterical, convinced that she, as the wolf, has killed Billy. She demands that Charming lock her in the cell to keep the town safe. King George seems extremely pleased by the events occurring. He suggests to Charming that the town will now see him as weak for showing favoritism to his friend, Red. George wants Red to be given to him so that he and the town’s people can dispense mob justice. Charming refuses, and after George leaves, sneaks Red to the library. Belle is there to help Red. Belle understands Red’s struggle and supports her friend. After Charming leaves with Granny to investigate, Red cuffs Belle to a shelf. Red believes she deserves to die, and heads toward the town, and the mob. Back in town, Granny has tracked a scent to a parked car. They find a hatchet and Ruby’s cloak in the trunk. Charming finds the registration, and discovers it is King George’s vehicle. George killed Billy and framed Red in order to make Charming look weak to the town’s people.

In FTL past, Snow finds the den where Red is. Red is happy to see her friend, but the pack is not. They do not like nor trust humans. Red tells Snow that she wants to stay and live with her mother. Snow is sad, but understands. She tells Red she would give anything to have her family back. Just then the Queen’s men who have followed Snow, burst in. Quinn is shot and killed. The pack is able to kill the guards, but Anita blames Snow for their showing up. Anita orders the pack to bind Snow and says they will feast on the princess at nightfall. Red argues to save her friend, but Anita will not listen. She tells Red that she has made her choice, and she is a wolf now. When evening comes, Red refuses to kill Snow. Anita changes to the wolf and lunges for Snow’s throat. Red fights her off, and Anita is killed when she falls on a metal poker. Red is devastated, but she has saved Snow, who had been her friend and family all along. Snow as the only one who ever accepted Red as both a woman and a wolf. The two bury Anita, and leave together.

In SB, George has the mob worked up and ready to hunt and kill Red. They find her in wolf form, waiting for the fate she still believes she deserves. When George goes to shoot Red, Granny shoots an arrow to knock his gun down. Charming runs in and tells the towns people what George has done. He takes the cloak and approaches Red. Charming tells her he knows the real Red, and that she can control the wolf. He places the cloak around her, and she becomes Red again. When they go to confront George he is gone, but Ruby and Granny can track him. They find him, gloating, standing near a fire. He smiles and says he wants to see Charming’s face when he realizes that he will never see his wife and child again. George pulls Jefferson’s tattered hat from inside his coat and throws it in the fire. Charming is unable to save it, and now has no portal to find his family. Charming punches George and draws his gun, but does not shoot. George laughs and says Charming should have killed him when he had the chance. Red assures Charming they will find another way. Red then tells Charming that someone should go unlock Belle. Red leaves Charming, saying she is going to run. Something she has not done in 28 years.

In FTL of the past, we see that Aurora is now having the nightmare that she shares with Henry. She screams and battles the fire, but sees a boy in the distance he speaks to her right before she wakes up. Aurora tells Snow and Emma about the boy. She then tells them that he told her not to be afraid, and that his name was Henry. Snow and Emma look at each other. They may have a way to communicate with their loved ones in SB after all.

OUAT 2x08- 'Into The Deep' Synopsis:

Hook finally makes it down from the beanstalk, late at night to find Cora waiting for him. She wants the compass and considers the fact he took her protection spell a "betrayal." She's not going to kill him, she's going to leave him there. He tries to get her to reconsider, but she disappears in a puff of magic smoke. Cora returns to her chamber of hearts and takes one out. She blows on it and drawers to other hearts open. She walks outside to the field of dead whose hearts she ripped out. "Rise," she commands. Now she has zombies. Emma shows Aurora a photo of Henry to confirm that's who she saw in her dream. It is, except that Snow knows it's not a dream -- it's from the sleeping curse. Snow thinks they can get a way to stop Cora from Rumplestiltskin, by having Aurora communicate with Henry. Aurora goes back to sleep and finds Henry. She tells him she's with Snow and Emma and they need his help. Henry wakes up in Storybrooke and tells David and Regina the plan. At Granny's, she gives Rumplestiltskin grief as she brings his lunch with Belle. Regina comes in to talk to Gold. He doesn't even want to listen until she mentions Cora. He thinks he can defeat Cora again, but Regina points out the fact he cares about Belle means he has a weakness. Enchanted Forest Snow, Emma, Aurora and Mulan make their way through the forest. Aurora plans to meet Henry again in two hours. Mulan notices Aurora's burns from the nether world and suggests it's too dangerous to go back, but Aurora wants to help. Storybrooke Gold, David and Regina prep in Gold's shop for Henry to go to sleep. Gold tells Henry a bedtime story about Snow and Charming using a magic quill to trap him. The ink was harvested from the rarest species of squid from the bottom of a bottomless ocean, but he has a supply in his jail cell. Back in the fiery nether world, Henry tries to shout directions at Aurora but the flames are too high and she can't hear him. He's shouting again when Aurora is yanked from the netherworld. Mulan is shaking her awake, they're being attacked by zombies. They fight them off, but can't find a way to kill them. Snow and Emma look around and realize Mulan and Aurora are gone. Aurora and Mulan get separated when a zombie attacks Mulan. She finds Emma and Snow and tells them they took Aurora. Storybrooke Henry wakes up and tells them he didn't get to convey his message. And he has a bad burn on his arm. Enchanted Forest Cora holds Aurora in captivity. She's sure that Snow and Emma will come for Aurora. Cora mentions that when a wraith eats a soul it gets transported to another world and she suggests maybe she could bring her Prince Phillip back. But Aurora says her loyalty is not so easily bought. Cora gets angry and knocks her out. She goes to her raven and says "tell them." It flies off and lands on Snow's shoulder, conveying the message they have til sundown to bring the compass in exchange for Aurora. Mulan thinks it's a no-brainer and tries to take the compass from Emma. Snow asks her for a few hours to come up with a plan. She's been under a sleeping curse before and thinks if she went under a deep sleep she could access the nether world and talk to Henry. She needs Mulan's sleeping powder, but she needs more poppy to make it. They begin their trek. Storybrooke Gold heals Henry with magic. He thinks Henry got hurt because Aurora was yanked away. Regina and David don't love the idea of sending Henry back, especially when Aurora won't be there. But then David realizes Snow can go back. He insists Gold put him under a sleeping curse so he can meet her there. He thinks he'll come out of it when she kisses him. Enchanted Forest Hook frees Aurora so she can thwart Cora. He tells her to tell Emma the deal still stands, if they take him back he'll help her find the dust that opens the portal. Mulan hacks her way through the forest toward the poppies. Snow tells Emma the nether world is a dark place where all you do is think about the people you'll never see again. Emma blames Regina for everything. Storybrooke Henry joins Regina making a sleeping curse for David. She tells him she hasn't used magic except for with Daniel and now. He thinks it's good she's using it to help people. She promises she won't use it again. Henry argues he should be allowed to go back in, but Regina and David thinks it's too dangerous. She thinks David will succeed. "If there's one thing I know about your grandparents, it's that they always find each other," she says. Gold briefs David on the curse. He'll prick his finder on the spindle of a spinning wheel and fall asleep. Henry wishes David luck and gives him his necklace. Mulan crushes the poppy seeds for the sleeping powder and blows it in Snow's face. David won't be in the fiery room when he goes under, because that's for people who have awoken from the sleeping curse. They're counting on him to be able to find the room with no door. David pricks his finger and conks out. He wakes up surrounded by darkness and mirrors. He picks up a torch and tries to find the door. He sees only mirrors and hears whispers. Snow wakes up in the fiery room, with flames all around her, but no Henry. On the other side in the darkness, David notices the necklace Henry gave him glowing. He follows it as it glows brighter, until it burns his hand. He realizes the floor is scalding hot. He uses his torch to break through the floor and crashes down to the fiery room below. He looks around but doesn't see anyone. But Snow sees him. They're separated by a wall of fire. He tells Snow where to find the ink. She realizes the only way he could see her is if he's under a curse. He leaps across the fire and tries to kiss her, but they can't touch because it's a nether world. She realizes she's waking up. He tells her she'll find a way home and then wake him up with a kiss. She disappears and he's left alone in the flames. Storybrooke Henry waits for David to wake up. Regina and Gold are nervous, but hide it. Enchanted Forest Snow wakes up with a start and frantically tells Emma about David being trapped. They head for Rumplestiltskin's jail cell, but realize Mulan and the compass are gone. Cora goes to check on her prisoner but finds Hook instead. She's prepared to kill him when he tells her to look in his satchel for her gift. "Is that?" she says. "Indeed it is and with that you'll get everything you want," he says. Emma catches up with Mulan and fires a warning arrow. Mulan is ready to fight back, but Snow tackles her and holds an arrow to her throat. Mulan in unwilling to turn over the compass and says Snow had better be prepared to use her arrow. Snow is about to when Aurora appears. She tells Emma that Hook let her go to prove that he can be trusted, Aurora says Hook might care for Emma. Meanwhile, Cora holds a heart and speaks the words that are coming from Aurora. Cora is impressed that Hook took Aurora's heart. They're back to their plan to travel together. They ladies head off for Rumplestiltskin's cell, with Cora watching through Aurora's heart.

'OUAT 02x15-Princess Katrina:'

For episode 2x15 of Once Upon a Time, the guest role of Katerina is being cast. She's 40 years old, regal, beautiful and kind, with a big heart, and loved by her family, which is very close.

TV Line also has this to report about the new casting:

“There is a Princess Katerina who is the Russian version of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ — which I suppose makes sense if Emma & Co. need yet another survivor of a sleeping spell to venture into the netherworld. But if the name is a foiler, this character almost reads like a ‘Glenda the Good Witch’-esque counterpart to Regina, and maybe she figures into someone’s fairytale land backstory.”

'2x08 - Into The Deep'
(By Amy Degenstein-Hood)

Our episode begins at night near the base of the beanstalk. Hook climbs down, and Cora is waiting for him. She is carrying an umbrella/parasol with her. It can’t possibly be to block the sun because it is totally dark out. The only other option is that perhaps it is to block the rain. This might mean that Cora doesn’t want to get wet, similar to the way the Wicked Witch of the West in Wizard of Oz can’t get wet. I have a feeling we might find out down the road that Cora is the witch from Oz. Cora tells Hook she doesn’t appreciate him double crossing her. She is angry when she realizes he doesn’t have the compass. She says she has crossed through too many worlds to stop now. He asks if she’s going to kill him. Cora replies that she has something more satisfying in mind. She intends to leave Hook there. She will not take him to Storybrooke. She says “you’ve had your chance” and she vanishes. We then see her re-appear in a room filled with heart boxes. She pulls one heart out and blows on it. It begins to beat and glow. She steps to the door and commands the bodies in the courtyard to rise. They begin to stand and then head to retrieve the compass.

In FTL a short distance away, Aurora recognizes Henry from Emma’s picture. She said he is the boy she has been seeing in the fire room. Snow explains that the room is real. She had not wanted to tell Aurora earlier because she was so afraid of the nightmare. Emma tells Aurora she needs to go back to sleep and find Henry. In the fire room, Aurora tells Henry that she is with Emma and Snow, and that they want to go home. We see Henry wake up and tell Charming and Regina the news. He also says that Aurora said they need to defeat someone that only Rumple knows how to beat. Regina is shocked to hear that it is her mother.

In Granny’s Dinner, Rumple and Belle finally get their hamburger date. Granny is obviously less than thrilled that he is there. Granny informs Rumple that he is being charged extra for his pickles. Rumple tells Belle that his relationship with most people is complicated. Regina comes through the door and Granny is ready to shut down the place immediately. Regina assures Granny that she is only there to talk to Rumple. Rumple introduces Regina to Belle by saying “You remember the woman who locked you away for 28 years.” Regina explains to Rumple that Cora is alive and trying to make her way back to Storybrooke. Everyone thought she was dead, but Rumple agrees that this threat is too serious to take lightly. They agree to go back to Rumple’s shop and give Henry information to share with Aurora in the fire room.

Henry lays down, and Rumple tells him to listen to his story and it will give him all the information he needs to tell Aurora in order to help them stop Cora and get Snow & Emma home. As Henry drifts to sleep, Rumple tells him the tale of how he was stunned and trapped by Cinderella when she gave him the quill in season 1. He explains that it was not the quill but the ink that is magic. The ink comes from the rarest squid (Ursula?) who lives at the bottom of the bottomless ocean. Only a mermaid (probably a reference to a story involving Ariel that we will see in upcoming episodes) can get it. Rumple tells Henry that he had a supply of it back in FTL, and the bottle is still in the cell he was locked up in there. This little bit of information leads me to wonder if Rumple had in fact, orchestrated his capture in season 1. Why else would he have the ink on him when he was locked up?

In the fire room, Henry finds Aurora, he tries to tell her the information, but Aurora is suddenly awoken by Mulan. The undead that Cora animated are attacking. The 4 companions fight, but Aurora is captured and taken to Cora. In her cell, Cora tells Aurora she intends to trade her for the compass. Aurora says that will never happen. Cora tells Aurora that when a wraith consumes a soul, as Philip’s soul was consumed, it only travels to another realm. She suggests that she could bring him back to FTL if Aurora cooperates. She refuses, kicking her trey of food onto Cora’s dress. Cora uses magic to fling her against a wall and she is knocked out. A raven in the cell is sent by Cora to tell Snow, Emma and Mulan that she will trade the compass for Aurora. In the original stories, Maleficent also had a pet raven. I’m wondering if this might be alluding to a possible connection between Aurora’s mother’s story, Cora and Maleficent.

The raven finds Snow, and since she can understand the birds, she receives the message. Mulan wants to take the compass. Snow knows that she can go back to the fire room since she has also been under the sleeping curse, and asks Mulan to trust her. She asks Mulan to make more sleeping powder (like she had made for use on the giant), and Mulan says they must find a rare poppy. This is an obviously a reference from The Wizard of Oz. The poppy field is where Dorothy and friends run through and eventually fall asleep until they are woken up by snow fall. The companions find a poppy, and Mulan makes the sleeping dust. In Aurora’s cell, we see her being woken up by Hook. Hook frees her, and says that Cora double crossed him and he wants to help Aurora. She is wary of him, but he convinces her and asks her to give Emma a message for him. He says his offer still stands to help her if she will help him get to SB. Aurora runs out of the cell and heads for her companions.

In SB, Charming and Regina agree that it is too dangerous to let Henry go back into the fire room. Charming suggests that he be put under the sleeping curse. He knows that Snow will always find him. Rumple explains to Charming that he will be given the sleeping curse by pricking his finger on the needle of a spinning wheel. In the back room, we see Regina using vials and bottles of glowing liquids & dust to create the curse. Henry seems very interested and asks if that is magic. She says it is only one form, and she promises him that she has been trying not to use magic, just as she promised him. They take the curse out to the spinning wheel. Rumple says to Regina “Your majesty, would you like the honors since you did his wife.” She dips the needle into the vial; Charming pricks his finger and falls asleep. Because this is Charming’s first time under the curse, he is not in the fire room, but in a room of mirrors. Henry’s necklace starts to glow, and it falls to the ground. Charming realizes that the floor is burning hot. He breaks through and falls into the fire room. Snow is there. Charming tells her about the ink, and tells her to find it and come home. Snow realizes that Charming is under a sleeping curse. He tells her she will break it and he will be fine. He jumps through the fire and they almost kiss, but their hands pass through each other. They realize it is a netherworld, so their bodies are not really there. They cannot kiss or touch. Snow is devastated, but Charming tells her that they always find each other, and to have faith. Snow begins to wake up. They profess their love and Snow is pulled away, leaving Charming trapped in the fire room alone.

In SB, Henry worries that Charming is still not awake. Regina says she is sure he’s fine, but Rumple shakes his head.

Now awake, Snow is frantic. Emma assures her that they will find the way home. She tells her to have faith, the way that she always has. The two realize then that Mulan is gone and she has stolen the compass. We see Mulan running, on her way to trade the compass for Aurora. Snow and Emma catch up, and Mulan fights with Snow. Snow takes Mulan down, and Mulan tells her she will have to use the arrow to kill her because she will not return the compass. Snow pulls back with the arrow, but is stopped when they hear Aurora call out.

Back in Cora’s cell, we see Cora and Hook. Cora is furious that he has let Aurora go. She binds him to the wall and tells him she is going to kill him. He says she should be thanking him and that he has a gift in his satchel for her. Cora opens the satchel and looks very pleased.

In the forest, Aurora tells her friends how Hook saved her. She says that he really did want to help. She also tells Emma that she thinks Hook has feelings for her….. We then hear Cora and Aurora’s voices at the same time. We flash to seeing Cora holding a heart in her hand. She is speaking into it, and what she says is what is coming out of Aurora’s mouth. She is controlling Aurora now. Hook took Aurora’s heart, which was the gift Hook had in the satchel. Aurora/Cora asks if they found a way to stop Cora, and the friends tell her that they must go to Rumple’s cell.

2x09 - Queen of Hearts
By Amy Degenstein-Hood

In the winter finale this week, we finally discovered the identity of the Queen of Hearts, saw a history connecting some of our favorite characters, and learned if the Charming’s would finally make it home. We are left with a cliffhanger to keep us talking through the winter hiatus.

We begin in FTL of the past. A man disguised as a slave is bringing food to a prisoner in Regina’s castle. He fights with and kills the guard, and we see that he is Hook. Inside the cell, we see Belle, still the Queen’s prisoner, with marks on the walls showing that she has been locked up for a long time. Hook tells her he is there to rescue her. He says Rumple is attacking her father and he needs to know how to kill him in order to save Maurice. Belle says she doesn’t know how to kill Rumple, and even if she did, she would never allow someone hurt Rumple. Hook’s demeanor changes when he hears this. He says she is no help to him and that he is not actually rescuing her. He then backhand slaps her and knocks her out. He lifts his hook to strike her, and is stopped by Regina. Regina tells him she knows all about the “crocodile” he wants to skin in revenge for Milah. She offers to show him how to kill Rumple if Hook will do a favor for her. They share a drink and Regina tells him he must kill her mother, Cora. She also shares that she is about to enact a curse that will alter their land forever. She is taking everyone away, and does not want Cora to follow her. Hook asks where he can find Cora, and Regina tells him not to worry, Cora will find him. Regina enchants his Hook so that he can rip out Cora’s heart. It will only work one time, for one heart. (This explains how he was able to take Aurora’s heart) Regina then says that Hook must take the dead body of the guard he killed because 2 must enter the portal in order for 2 to come back. Regina wants him to bring Cora’s body back so she can see her dead for herself. She pulls Jefferson’s hat out and tells Hook he is going to Wonderland.

As Regina told him, once in Wonderland, Hook is captured. He is brought before the Queen of Hearts. She unmasks herself and reveals that she is Cora. She makes everyone leave and asks Hook why he came, and who he intends to take back with him. He swings his hook into her chest, and to his surprise, she laughs. She says that she is the Queen of Hearts, and does he really think she would keep her own heart in her chest. Cora then reaches in to Hook’s chest and demands to know who sent him. He tells her about Regina’s plan, and asks her to kill him. She refuses, and has another plan in mind. Cora wants to get close to Regina, so she can rip her heart out and kill her.

Hook brings what Regina thinks is her dead mother back to the castle. Regina is all in black, with a single rose. She says her goodbye’s to her mother. Regina says that Cora was right, love is weakness. Regina says she loves Cora, and she can’t have any weaknesses when she enacts her curse. Regina cries and says she is sorry, places the rose on Cora’s body, then leaves the tomb. Hook then enters from another door and asks why Cora didn’t kill Regina. She says there was a change of plans. They will protect themselves from the curse, and Cora will return to Regina in 28 years. Cora says Regina will lose everything, and then she will need her again. She casts a spell, protecting the island and the corner of the land as the curse passes over.

In SB, Rumple and Regina discuss the state that Charming is in. Regina is convinced that he got the message to Snow, but Rumple is not. He says they must find the portal and destroy it to keep Cora from coming through. He convinces Regina that Emma and Snow will not be the ones coming through the portal. Regina does not want to lie to Henry, or to cause Emma and Snow to die, but she can’t allow Cora to come to Storybrooke where she could hurt Henry. Regina has been making an honest effort to be better to earn Henry’s love, but she knows how evil Cora is. Regina and Rumple leave Henry to look after Charming while they head off to look for the portal. Next to Charming’s bed is a great Alice in Wonderland lamp, made of teacups and teapots. Later on, in the mines below SB, Rumple uses the Fairy Godmother’s wand to pull all the diamonds down and turn them to dust. He makes the comment that no one is mourning for the Fairy Godmother. (Fans will recall that Rumple killed Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother and stole her wand in season one episode “The Price of Gold”) This might be a small indication that in addition to a feud with Rumple, the fairies might not be as good as they seem ;)

In modern FTL, Emma, Snow, Mulan and Aurora (who, unbeknownst to the others is still controlled by Cora) make it to Rumple’s old cell. They search for the ink, but first find a scroll. It is a tattered, worn piece of parchment with Emma’s name written over and over again. Mulan then finds an ink well, but it is empty. The ink is all gone. Aurora suddenly picks up a rock and hurls it at the cell door mechanism, causing it to shut and lock them in. Her friends are shocked, but then see Cora and Hook standing outside the cell. They explain that they had Aurora’s heart, and Cora has been pulling her strings. Cora uses magic and snatches the magic compass away. This compass seems to be similar to the one in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies as far as its power. In the films, Jack has a magic compass that points to whatever the holder’s heart most desires. In the case of our ONCE story, that is a way to Storybrooke. Before Hook and Cora leave, Hook shows Emma that he took a “trophy” from his conquest of the giant. He has the bean that no longer holds magic which the giant had been wearing around his neck in a previous episode. He may have just been rubbing it in Emma’s face, but I think he may have been trying to let her know something for the future. I believe he wanted to make sure she knew about the bean.

After Hook and Cora leave, Emma tries to break out of the cell. Her companions tell her that the cell was built to hold the Dark One, and no person could ever escape. Emma is losing faith, but Snow tells her to keep believing. Snow suddenly remembers that as a child she watched Cora use magic. She grabs the parchment that has Emma’s name all over it and blows. The ink wisps off the page and melts the cell door. Rumple used the squid ink to write the scroll. He had the power all along to escape back in FTL of the past. Aurora says she can’t be trusted since Cora has her heart, and makes them tie her and leave her. As they run out, we see Cora and Hook at the land that used to be Lake Nostos. The water is gone, but Cora waves her hand and it springs back up from the center. Cora give shook the wardrobe ashes to scatter in the water, and a portal opens. Cora tells Hook not to let go unless he wants to end up somewhere besides Storybrooke. She and Hook hold the compass, and as they are about to enter, an arrow knocks the compass to the ground. Snow, Emma and Mulan arrive to fight. The bag with Aurora’s heart is almost lost in the portal, but Hook lunges to save it. He gives it to Mulan to take back to Aurora. Mulan runs to save Aurora. Hook and Emma fight, and she knocks him out with the compass.

In SB, Leroy and Red discover that the diamonds and magic are all gone. The Dwarves and Red then find Henry, and tell him what has happened. He is devastated that Regina has lied to him. In the forest, Regina and Gold arrive at the well. They cast a spell that will kill anyone who enters the portal. Henry and Red arrive and try to stop them. Rumple uses magic to fling Ruby back onto the ground. Henry begs Regina to stop, and to have faith in him. He is sure that it will be Emma and Snow who come through. Regina turns to the well, and pulls the protection spell into her arms.

As Emma and Snow continue to fight Cora, Emma jumps to save Snow. Cora reaches in and grabs Emma’s heart. She tells her love is weakness and pulls, but she cannot pull it out. Emma says Love is not weakness, its strength, and a blast of magic comes out of her and knocks Cora to the ground. She and Snow grab the compass and jump into the portal. On the other side in SB, we see Regina stumble backwards away from the well. She tells Henry she is sorry, but that it was too late to save whoever was coming through. Just then, we see a hand reach up through the well. Emma and Snow climb out and are reunited with Henry. Rumple walks away, and Regina watches as Henry hugs his other “mom”. He tells Emma that Regina saved them. Emma thanks her and they all rush back to Gold’s shop so that Snow can awaken Charming.

In FTL we see Mulan with Aurora. She carefully places her heart back in her chest. Aurora tells Mulan that she believes they can still save Phillip, and they head off to try. At Lake Nostos, Cora tells Hook that they have failed. He smiles and shows her the bean, which he tosses into the magic water. The waters swirl, and another portal opens.

Snow rushes to Charming’s side and kisses him. In a mirror image of what we saw when he woke Snow, Charming is woken by the magic of True Love’s Kiss. The Dwarves surround them, and everyone is happy…except Regina. Henry walks to her, and tells her that she really has changed, and he hugs her. In the other side of the shop, Emma tells Gold about what happened in FTL. She asks why he didn’t escape his cell. He said he was where he needed to be. He tells Emma he didn’t make her or give her powers. She tells him that Cora couldn’t take her heart, and he says that was all her. That she has magic inside her. She is the savior. Emma returns to the back and invites the Dwarves to accompany her, Snow, Charming and Henry to lunch at Granny’s. They do not invite Regina, and she is left alone once again. Rumple steps in and congratulates her on reuniting mother and son, and suggests that maybe one day they will care enough to invite her to dinner. Regina’s eyes well up with tears.

As Emma, Snow and the happy group walk down the street to Granny’s, we see a fog rolling in on the horizon. In the fog is the Jolly Roger, Hook’s pirate ship. As we get a closer look we see Hook and Cora on the deck, finally having arrived in Storybrooke.

Spoilers are trickling in for the January episodes of Once Upon a Time. We already know that the January 6th return of the show will feature Hook and Cora in Storybrooke, as well as Regina being under suspicion for murder. But after that, Mr. Gold will start a journey to find his missing son, Mary Margaret and David will happily move forward in their relationship, and a stranger will arrive in Storybrooke. Here are teasers for two upcoming episodes.

"The Outsider" (January 13): Mr. Gold finds an unwilling test subject to see if a spell he has concocted will allow him to cross the border of Storybrooke -- without losing his memory -- and go in search of his son, Bae; Belle stumbles upon a vengeful Hook in the Storybrooke harbor whose main goal is to eradicate Rumplestiltskin; and Mary Margaret and David go house hunting in search of a bigger place to live. Meanwhile, in the fairytale land that was, Belle meets Mulan as the two set out to slay a fearsome beast called the Yaoguai, who has been ravaging the land. Ethan Embry will guest star in this episode as a "stranger/outsider" and Christopher Gauthier will also be returning as Smee.

"In the Name of the Brother" (January 20): Dr. Whale is tasked with mending Hook’s wounds and performing surgery on the stranger whose car crashed upon entering Storybrooke. But some of the townspeople fear that the stranger may have seen magic -- which could expose their true identities to the world -- and think that leaving him to die would be the best solution. Meanwhile, as Mr. Gold tries to reunite with a despondent Belle, Cora attempts to reunite with daughter Regina; and in the land that was, Victor desperately wants to prove to his disapproving father that he can, indeed, bring back the dead. Ethan Embry will guest star in this episode as well.

The people of Storybrooke won't know right away that Regina's evil witch of a mother made it there. "They're trying to get the lay of the land," explained executive producer Steve Pearlman. "Cora, in particular, her whole plan was to get Regina to want her. So there's the beginnings of the plan of how that will happen."

A calm before the storm will be good, at least for Regina, who might have a panic attack upon learning Cora's in town. "She's scared to confront her mother," Lana Parrilla said. "At the same time, she's rusty using magic. Then there's also the mother-daughter dynamic."

2. Emma bonds with her dad

It's weird enough that Emma's roommate turned out to be her mom, but at least they had a chance to bond in Fairy Tale Land. Now that she's back, Emma also has to deal with the fact she has a dad. But David won't be one of those overprotective helicopter parents. "As opposed to pushing the whole parental-figure kind of thing on her, he kind of wants to lay back on it and find out who she is as a woman, who she is as a friend," explained Josh Dallas. Since Charming took over the sheriff's duties in Emma's absence, they'll now work together to watch over the town.

"They're both sheriffing at the same time," Morrison said. "Regina has a great line at one point. She's like, 'I'm glad to see this is a family affair.'" But father and daughter won't always see eye to eye. "They both have different ideas about how to bring justice to certain people, but they can both learn from each other," Dallas said.

3. Hook looks for Gold; Gold looks for his son

The wonders of the new world that is Storybrooke don't cause Hook to waver from his only goal in life: to kill Rumplestiltskin. "His reaction to being in Storybrooke isn't really different, because he still has his motivation," Colin O'Donoghue explained. "It doesn't matter where that is. He's the kind of guy who'd be willing to die in the pursuit. That's how single-minded he is." Later on, Hook will meet other Storybrookers. "He has interactions with some other people, though, that will be interesting to the fans, especially because they want to 'ship' him with anyone," O'Donoghue said with a grin.

Meanwhile, as Hook is bent on revenge, Rumplestiltskin is bent on finding his son, Baelfire. "It's always been the son. It's never been about anything else other than the son," said Robert Carlyle. "The next few episodes are all about that."

4. To stay or to go, that is the question

Emma and Snow may have just gotten back from Fairy Tale Land, but perhaps not for long. There will be a contingent of Storybrookers who want to return home (if they can even find a way). "David wants to get back to their kingdom, the kingdom that they fought for, their home," Dallas explained. But his wife feels a little differently. "Snow wants nothing more than to explore a provincial, suburban kind of life with Prince Charming after all she's gone through," said Ginnifer Goodwin.

"There will be conflict because not everyone went through what Emma and Snow went through on that journey." Indeed, as Snow well knows, current-day Fairy Tale Land is very different from what Charming remembers. "Mary Margaret and Emma have experienced what I call postapocalyptic Fairy Tale Land, and David has not," Morrison noted. "And even though it's been explained to him and he's heard the stories, it's just different to hear about it and being in it."

OUAT 2x10-'The Cricket Game' In #•Detail•#

When “Once Upon a Time” returns to TV with “The Cricket Game” in early January, things are going to be taking a rather violent turn. Not only that, but they will be doing so rather quickly in an episode whose title (in “The Cricket Game”) would not suggest that something so dastardly is afoot.
The one thing to remember with this official synopsis (via SpoilerTV) is that not everything is quite as it seems here: there are a few assorted details brought in here that appear to be placed in from separate timelines, largely as we do not believe that we are going to be seeing Snow white and Prince Charming fighting it out with the Evil Queen on such a deadly level in modern-day Storybrooke:

“When Regina is accused of murdering a beloved fairytale character, Emma thinks she is innocent; Prince Charming and Snow White plan the evil queen’s execution.”
The biggest disappointment that we currently have with this description is simply that for whatever reason, Archie (Raphael Sbarge) is not mentioned in here at all, even in spite of the fact that he is the man referenced in the title courtesy of his alter ego. What sort of role could he have? We could see him somehow getting involved once again with Regina’s therapy, as she could be shaken up a little bit over being blamed for something that she may or may not have actually done.

"Once Upon a Time" returns with its midseason premiere on Sunday (Jan. 6 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC), and now that Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) have escaped the Enchanted Forest and reunited with their loved ones in Storybrooke, it's time for a whole new set of problems to arise.
Chief among them is the arrival of Cora (Barbara Hershey) and Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) to our world, since the two fairytale foes have nothing but revenge on their minds. During HuffPost TV's recent visit to "Once Upon A Time's" Vancouver set, the cast gave us a few hints as to what was coming up in the second half of the season, including the midseason premiere, in which Regina is suspected of murdering one of Storybrooke's most beloved inhabitants.
As we saw in the midseason finale, Regina (Lana Parrilla) had a surprising change of heart, choosing to save Emma and Snow instead of allowing the portal to kill them both. It seems as though we'll see our former Evil Queen struggling with her darker impulses and trying to become a better person in the next few episodes. But will it last?
"We will discover that Snow has grappled with this question her entire life, whether or not the Queen is capable of change," Ginnifer Goodwin revealed on set. "And we do learn that Snow gives her chances time and time again and the exact answer to that question is in the episode, [as far as] where Snow ends up."

While Snow wrestles with her doubts about Regina, the villainess may find a surprising ally in Emma, who believes she's innocent of the crime in Storybrooke.
"I’ve now met Regina’s mother and so I have a very different perspective on who she is and why she is the way she is," Jennifer Morrison pointed out when asked about Emma's evolving relationship with her former rival. "I’ve just dealt with Cora for nine episodes and so there’s also a different reaction that Emma has to Regina, knowing that and knowing that Regina did choose to help them come back and not choose to hurt them."
Lana Parrilla said that Regina's positive reaction to Emma's return through the portal was a deliberate acting choice when playing the scene in the midseason finale. "I thought that, especially if she’s trying to do right by Henry and even to herself and everyone around her, why not start here with this tumultuous relationship that has never, ever worked out?" she admitted. "And so when I read that scene I thought, 'I want to be genuinely happy to see her and I want to genuinely welcome her back.'"
She added, "In the scene it’s sad because [the producers] said to me, 'Oh my God, the look on your face when Henry walked away from you,' ... It’s just when I think I’ve won Henry over and I have him as my son, he chooses [Emma] over me. And that’s a hard thing to feel as the mother of this child but ... [Regina] really just was happy she was back and I don’t know where it came from other than just trying to make this relationship work and knowing that if it doesn’t she’s going to lose Henry even more and he’s going to pull further and further away from her. So I really think she is trying. I think it’s genuine. I don’t think it’s manipulated or false on any level ... In these [upcoming] episodes, Regina is genuinely trying to get along with Emma and trying to make that relationship work so they can both have Henry."
As for whether that effort to change will improve Emma and Regina's relationship for good, Morrison wasn't so certain. "I don’t know that over the long-run it will," she said. "I think, momentarily, Emma wants to have hope that this person can change and that if they both really want the best for Henry, that there’s hope for that."

HuffPost TV also spoke to creators Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz earlier this week, and the pair shared a few hints about what's coming up for the rest of our characters. Since Snow and Charming (Josh Dallas) have been separated for half of the season, fans can certainly look forward to an enthusiastic reunion from the couple, among other things ...
"They are kind of figuring out their new role, being together, being in Storybrooke and being Emma’s parents even though they’re the same age," Kitsis said.
Horowitz agreed, "The first half of the season really was them coming to terms with 'the memories are back' and all that. Now going forward it’s, 'Well, what does this mean being a family? What does it mean being in this world with these memories and with this new strange familial relationship, and what do we want now?' What does that mean with all these circumstances that are completely different than anything they ever expected?"
And for admirers of the "RumBelle" relationship, the duo teased plenty of developments to come between the Imp and his Beauty. "We’re going to actually see a lot of Rumple and Belle coming up," Kitsis teased. "I think in the second half of the season, Rumple is going to collect that favor from Emma and he’s going to go in search of his son and he and Belle are going to face definite challenges. What’s interesting also is Rumple, in a way, is trying to change for her and as we all know, sometimes it’s hard to change."
"Once Upon a Time" airs Sundays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.

In this Sunday’s “The Cricket Game,” the focus is on Regina when she is accused of murder, but she seems to have an unlikely ally—Emma! Then on January 13, Mr. Gold continues his quest to find Baelfire, but first he needs to find a way to cross the Storybrooke border without sacrificing his memory in “The Outsider.” At the same time, Belle has a run-in with the vengeful Hook at the harbor, and that can’t be a good thing, can it?

In episode 12, “In the Name of the Brother,” airing January 20, Dr. Whale (AKA Frankenstein) is busy treating a wounded Captain Hook as well as a stranger who has come to town. That stranger may be able to cause trouble for the good people Storybrooke, exposing them to the world. It also looks to be a great episode for the Rumple and Belle as “Mr. Gold tries to reunite with a despondent Belle,” and Belle goes on an adventure in Fairytale Land with Mulan. Meanwhile, Cora tries to make nice with daughter Regina and Whale deals with his own Gothic daddy issues back in the Old Country.

Poor Regina!

Once Upon a Time's Evil Queen, it seems, is not so evil after all. When Jiminy Cricket (Raphael Sbarge) turned up dead — gasp! — all the evidence pointed to Regina (Lana Parrilla) as the culprit. It was actually her shape-shifting mother who did the deed, but — gasp! — Jiminy's not dead! Cora (Barbara Hershey) murdered a random resident of Storybrooke and changed his appearance to frame Regina. So, who really died? And can Regina ever win back Henry's (Jared Gilmore) trust? TVGuide.com turned to executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis to get the scoop on what's in store for the second half of Season 2, including Emma's (Jennifer Morrison) exploration of magic and more!

Who actually died in place of Jiminy? Is that something we'll come to find out?
Adam Horowitz: It's sort of the explanation at the end, which is that it was Cora's first day in town and she doesn't know who she killed.
Edward Kitsis: Honestly, she killed a faceless, nameless person and it was really more to highlight her coldness — that she doesn't care who she killed; she just needed a body.

Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) and Cora were not part of the curse, so can they leave Storybrooke? Would magic still work for Cora outside of Storybrooke?
Kitsis: Obviously they can leave because they weren't under the curse. As far as using magic outside the line, we're definitely going to explore that. I would strongly suspect that magic ends at the town line.

That might make it interesting for Hook in his quest to skin an alligator.
Horowitz: Yes.

How will Emma, Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Charming (Josh Dallas) treat Regina now?
Kitsis: I think the tragedy, obviously, is that Regina was telling the truth. At the moment things got hairy, no one believed in Regina, which just shows to Regina that these people will really never forgive her. I think that makes her susceptible to her mom. I would say watch out.

That begs the question of whether Regina could ever find happiness. Can she ultimately survive the story of Once Upon a Time?
Kitsis: That is the question of the series. That is Regina's character question. Will she find her happy ending? Unfortunately, she hasn't. Of all the characters, it's funny, she may have inflicted the most harm, and yet she has had the most harm inflicted to herself.

What will we see for the confrontation between Henry and Regina?
Kitsis: The question is when do people find out? The first few episodes are going to explain all of this. Where does Regina go? What happens to her? When do they find out Archie is alive? A lot of those things are going to be played out in the next batch of episodes.

It seems like Emma is going to continue to discover her magical abilities and it looks like Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) is very interested in helping her.
Horowitz: We're going to see that the magic within Emma becomes something that's really important to her on her journey of self-discovery this season. And it's definitely something that interests Rumple.
Kitsis: I think there's something about Mr. Gold, which is he's never one to miss an opportunity.

He looked at Emma like he looked at Regina before she knew how to harness her magic. Was that on purpose?
Kitsis: Yes. His wheels were spinning there. He realized that Emma has magic at the end of Episode 9 and he tests her in this episode. When it holds true, I think he thinks, "Ahhh!" It's like looking at someone with whole new eyes.

Magic always comes with a price. Is it a different kind of price because Emma is the savior?
Kitsis: What's interesting this season is we brought magic in the beginning and we know it comes with a price, so as the season goes on, you start to see the price of magic. For instance, in Episode 10, the price is Henry. Emma has to tell Henry that his stepmom killed his shrink. You see how hard it is for Regina to kick magic and you see how magic has come between Rumple and Belle (Emilie de Ravin). I think that is an issue that will be explored all throughout the season. It can come with a price, and sometimes, when it's good magic and it's used for the good of people, the price is different. But magic always comes with a price.

Can you talk about the parallel of Emma discovering how to be a parent to Henry, as well as Snow and Charming being parents to her?
Horowitz: What we're going to see is a family struggling to figure out what exactly it is. It's interesting to us that there are those parallels. Two sets of parents and two sets of kids who have not had the interaction that one normally associates with family. In addition to that, you add in the relationship between Snow, Emma and David — they're the same age. It's going to be a challenge for all of them to sort out.

Speaking of family, how will Regina act towards her mother? Will she seek her mother's affection or will she figure out Cora concocted the fake murder of Jiminy?
Kitsis: I would have to say keep watching. That is an interesting question and it really is, how persuasive is Cora? And how receptive is Regina? But deep down, every child wants their parent's love, and deep down, everyone wants their parent's respect and approval. Unfortunately, she has a hard choice because she wants her mother to love her, but in the same respect, she fears her mother and wanted her [to go] away. She wants to be with Henry and wants to go straight.

Will Cora and Hook be in the shadows for a long time or will others begin to figure out they're there?
Kitsis: Obviously we're not going to keep them secret for the entire season. I would say in short order we find out their plans. But we don't want to spoil when each of them are revealed.
Horowitz: The mayhem they're causing continues at an exponential rate.
Kitsis: A frenetic pace.

What horrors will Jiminy face in the coming weeks?
Kitsis: For Jiminy, he is going to be facing the old patient-doctor confidentiality issue. A lot of these people are his patients, and Cora and Hook are going to be very interested in the secrets of Mr. Gold and Regina, and it's really how long can Archie hold up?

Everyone expects that Hook is going to use Belle against Rumple. What will surprise us about how that goes down?
Horowitz: We hope that the Rumple-Hook-Belle of it all happens in a surprising way. There's clearly a confrontation brewing and it's coming soon. I think you should be worried about everyone. You've got Cora and Hook in town!

Once Upon a Time 2×10 The Cricket Game Recap ( •NOT• by me!!)

This eventful return episode of Once Upon a Time begins at night sometime after the last episode ended a month ago (in our time, that is). We see Hook on top of the ship as it lands in a dock. Cora gets out. Hook is ready to bid farewell, but Cora says their partnership is just beginning b/c of her use of black magic keeping him safe. Hook reluctantly agrees. A bearded sailor comes by and notices the ship, which Cora makes disappear. The sailor won’t shut up about so Cora turns him into a fish, which Hook kicks into the ocean. Cora decides to visit Storybrooke (why else would she have come there?). Opening credits roll.

We then cut to a rather blissful shot of M Margaret and David in bed together about to make love again. They are suddenly interrupted by the arrival of Henry and Emma. Henry seems confused by what is happening while Belle changes the subject and shoos him away. Can we say AW-K-WARD?!

Cut to Regina on a horse by a cliffside watching a cattle progress. Her knights arrive and tell her that Snow and Charming have defeated King David, but his fate is unknown. Regina vows to keep them apart long enough to find Snow.

Next, we see Snow run in the woods and trip and all, allowing Regina to find her. Regina clearly wants Snow dead. Charming then arrives from behind a tree and unleashes the Blue Fairy that shoots a blue ray onto Regina, freezing her in her place. Charming says the kingdom is theirs, but Regina doesn’t look convinced. But…who would?

Back in Storybrooke, M Margaret and David arrive at her welcome home party at Granny’s diner. There much fun to be had. They toast to M Margaret as Regina walks in with a dish, which upsets everyone. Emma says she invited her b/c she saved them so they owe her thanks. M Margaret doesn’t seem happy about this and wishes she had been told earlier, but Emma says she couldn’t tell them b/c they were indisposed. Emma says that no one can get anywhere without changing a little bit. Regina notes that she added some flakes to spice up her dish. Everyone eats and Regina suddenly leaves, without eating the cake. Emma runs after her, but Regina says she’s fine. This is probably not good. Emma says she just invited her b/c of Henry. Regina wants to see him more and chastises Emma for not knowing much about parenting. Emma is about to leave, but Regina apologizes and says she’s trying not use magic anymore. They part, but not without Hook and Cora leering over a building roof, watching her walk. Cora seems confident that the old Regina isn’t broken yet. I have to agree.

In the morning, Regina confronts Dr. Hopper at the docks since he shares information about their secret sessions together with Miss Swan. Bug swears he didn’t break any doctor/patient agreement, but Regina reminds him that his PhD came from a curse, shoos Ruby away, and says he should be thankful she’s changed, and walks away.

Next there is Jiminy talking to the round table and claims Regina cannot change. The dwarves seem very agitated by this. The Blue Fairy seems unconvinced that Regina could ever change. Charming decides that Regina must be killed. Snow wants clarification since Regina once saved her. Charming says they don’t have much of a choice to assassinate her since she will only live to do evil. Pretty much anyone could’ve told you that, of course.

In Storybrooke, Regina is walking the streets in front of Granny’s Diner. Ruby puts the sign away. Regina goes to Dr. Hopper’s office and freezes his Dalmatian and engulfs him in a blue cloud. She walks away looking satisfied. So much for change. Except, it turns out to be Cora, not Regina, that did this! So much for Regina’s renewed social life.

The next morning, the Dalmatian breaks free of the spell and brings Emma and Ruby to Dr. Hopper’s corpse. Ruby looks angered.

The older Henry then visits Regina in her cell. Henry says she should give them a reason to give her the benefit of the doubt. I sincerely don’t buy that, but who knows, maybe it’ll work.

In Storybrooke, Regina is in the sheriff’s office where Emma stands over her and David tells her that Dr. Hopper is dead. Regina looks surprised, but no one believes her innocence since Ruby saw who she thought was Regina leave the office. M Margaret watches from the other side of the two sided mirror.

We then see fairy land Regina being brought to her execution. Jiminy asks if she has any last words. Regina basically says she wishes she could’ve killed Snow as her real regret. Charming orders arrows to be fired, but Snow orders them to be stopped (via Blue Fairy power) before they hit Regina. Snow claims this isn’t ethically right and Regina is taken back to her cell. After all, you really cannot get rid of Regina this early in the season, now, can you?

Back in the sheriff’s office, M Margaret asks what is to be done with Regina. David orders her to be locked up but it seems that Emma actually believes her and orders her to be released since she is not the same Regina that is seen in the fairy land. Regina is innocent till proven guilty. It’s so funny how these parallel worlds are so, well, parallel, isn’t it?

Back in fairy land, Snow seems determined to show Charming that Regina can be rehabilitated. Charming just tells her that once this is done, there’s no turning back. Snow knows.

We then see Snow walking in the court yard, only to be interrupted by Rumpelstiltskin. Rump says he is disappointed that Regina was spared. Snow makes no apologies since she is confident she can change. Snow doubts herself, and Rump makes a deal to test her. Will Snow agree? Probably.

David looks through Regina’s file and sees they it is empty. Emma and M Margaret are pretty sure only one person would actually kill to frame Regina.

Cut to the three entering Gold’s shop with Belle in attendance. Gold denies it and can prove it by asking the Dalmatian. Gold says he can extract Pongo’s memories, except that Emma will use magic in herself to cast that spell with an enchanted dream catcher. Gold gives it to Emma, who doubts herself, but Gold pushes her to try harder. Suddenly, it starts to work. They see it appears to be Regina who did it and M Margaret gets emotional.

Outside, M Margaret acknowledges that they need a plan for capturing Regina. They agree on getting a new batch of fairy dust. Emma agrees to this little task very easily.

Back in fairy land, Snow visits Regina, who is very suspicious. Snow remains convinced that Regina is still good, which even Regina even denies. Snow just won’t quit and unlocks the door and lets Regina exit to allow her to start fresh. Snow is just too good to her. Naturally, Regina grabs Snow, who gets out a blade to defend her. Regina tries to use the blade to kill Snow, but it doesn’t work b/c there is a protection spell on Snow via Rump to test Regina. Charming comes out with guards and Snow banishes Regina for good since they’re now even. As if there was any doubt that would happen.

In Storybrooke, Emma knocks on Regina’s door and arrests Regina. Regina knows Gold helped them. M Margaret defends Emma and tells her that she can use magic. Regina reminds her that magic always comes with a price, and that price is Henry. Regina wants to clear her name with Henry, but Emma won’t allow it. They try to use the fairy dust, but Regina stops it and uses her force to push Emma down. Emma says it doesn’t matter b/c Henry will never believe her anyway. Regina looks defeated and disappears in a puff of smoke.

David then says that things are different, but they don’t have to go through anything alone since they are all family. Emma then tells Henry what happened. Regina watches from a car and looks sad.

In fairy land, Regina is dolled up again and is told Rump is here to visit her. Rump says that Snow and Charming’s wedding is today, even though they were not invited. Regina is angry that Rump tested her since she cannot use magic. Rump says she needs to bring her to another land to harm her. Regina gets an idea and calls for her carriage.

Back on the dock, Cora meets with Hook. Hook is interested in how Regina is helping him get his revenge against Rump. Regina then directs him to the person she left for him on the ship. They then venture into an invisible portal to check it out. They open a gate and reveals that it is none other than Dr. Hopper. (I seriously didn’t see that coming). Cora claims she has no idea who she actually killed to disguise as his corpse. Naturally, they have some dangerous-sounding plans to get the knowledge out of his head.

OUAT 2x14 'Manhattan'- Roundtable Interview #2

Will Regina go along with Cora's plan to kill Snow, Charming and Emma?

Jim: Regina has her own plan and I'm willing to bet it's Cora's death (again). But she will go along with Cora as long as it meets her needs.

Carla: She may go along with it initially, but in the end, she won't do it because of Henry. She will realize that killing them would cause him too much pain.

Nick:
Yes, because it means less competition for Henry. Henry is Regina's only end game goal at this point, and she's going to let her mother manipulate her if it means she can get close to Henry. The only time I see Regina not going along with Cora is if she oversteps the plan; which, knowing Cora, is very likely to happen. She always has ulterior motives.

Gareth:
I'm hoping that Regina is actually playing Cora. Learning all her plans so she can defeat her. It will be interesting to see how Regina handles the news that Henry's father is back and who he is. Will it change things for the better or will Regina be more desperate to get Henry away from Emma and Neal?

Christine:
I think that right now Regina may actually working with Cora but I'm hoping that will change on Henry's return. As much as she'd like Henry all to herself, I don't think she's willing to put him in that much pain to achieve it. We'll have to wait and see if I'm right.

(I *REALLY* hope she's playing Cora!)

OUAT 2x20-'The Evil Queen' #SPOILERS!!#

"Episode 20 will be “The Evil Queen.” We already know that Regina was called “The Evil Queen” in Enchanted Forest until “Fruit of the Poisonous Tree,” in which we learned she was also Regina in that land. With Regina’s struggle over redemption (all for Henry) and new fight to get Henry back, this episode sounds like it would Regina’s unleashing in Stroybrooke. Perhaps she will come back in full evil-queen dress and accompanying magic to reclaim the town. What do you think of this new episode title and what the episode could be about?"

2x17 - Welcome To Storybrooke
By Amy Degenstein Hood
This week’s episode takes us back to the very first days of the curse. We get to see Regina revel in the knowledge that she finally won, and then see her realize that it might not be as wonderful as she expected. In modern day Storybrooke, everyone must now deal with the consequences of Snow’s actions leading to Cora’s death.

In a thick wooded area circa 1983, we see Kurt and Owen Flynn, father and son, camping. Kurt shows his son how to make a keychain and then gives him a similar one that his grandfather had made. The two are obviously very close. Owen has a Return of the Jedi sleeping bag in this scene. This was the biggest movie of 1983. The last name of the father and son is also a nod to TRON, to which Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz wrote the sequel, Tron: Legacy. Suddenly, a storm begins to swirl around them. Electricity flashes and the wind is fierce. Kurt and Owen run into their tent, and Kurt sees a huge tidal wave of purplish smoke rushing toward them. The next morning father and son exit the tent to find much damage around them. Trees are downed, their campsite is destroyed and Kurt’s car has a tree lying across it. Kurt mentions needing to get to the nearest town and Owen calls his father over to look down the hill from where they are standing. Kurt is shocked. He says that when they came through the day before there was nothing but woods and trees. Now at the bottom of the hill, is Storybrooke.

In the mayor’s house (1983) we see Regina wake up on the first morning of the curse. She looks around with joy at the things in her home. We see her look at her new type of clothing, the décor around the house, and stroke her now shorter hair. She gets dressed and heads to the school. We see Mary Margret teaching her class, enacting the exact scene from the pilot episode when she releases the bluebird. As class ends, Regina comes in and asks MM how long she has been a teacher, but she cannot remember. She then takes MM to see the John Doe (Charming) who is in a coma in the hospital. Regina is thrilled when MM does not recognize him. Walking through town later, she sees Geppetto/Marco fixing a sign, Jiminy/Archie walking Pongo. There is a bench in town advertising a 1983 computer company, Encom, which is the company from the movie TRON. At Granny’s, Sherriff Graham asks if he should come over to Regina’s house later that night. As Regina sits down for a plate of apple pancakes, Owen asks her about her breakfast. She is startled at the presence of an outsider and immediately worried about what this could mean for her curse. She is further worried when Kurt asks about renting a room and says they have to stay in town until their car can get fixed.

The next few mornings in SB are exactly the same as the first. We begin to see Regina already growing weary of the monotony. She stops by Gold’s shop to tell him she’s not happy with the outcome of their deal, but he doesn’t remember what she is talking about. (Gold’s memories were only triggered in the pilot when he heard Emma’s name) Regina goes back to Granny’s diner for breakfast and find’s Owen sitting in her seat. She is angry, but sits in another spot. She tells Kurt that his truck will be done sooner than expected and he thanks her. As Kurt and Owen get up to leave, Owen gives Regina the keychain he made earlier in the episode to thank her for letting him stay in her seat. Regina is startled at the kindness of this little boy. It is the first time in a very long time that someone has been kind to her because they want to, not because they have to. Later that day she invites Kurt and Owen to come to her house for dinner.

In present day SB, we see Regina standing over her mother’s coffin with tears in her eyes. She places a single red rose on top of the coffin. Gold walks in and says he is there to pay his respects. He tells Regina that despite their differences, he will always have a place in his heart for Cora. Regina tells Gold that Snow must die for what she has done. He tries to persuade her against seeking vengeance, but Regina is not moved. He suggests to her that vengeance might cause her to lose Henry, but she says she will find a way to have everything. Gold travels to warn Snow, Charming and Emma about Regina’s plot for vengeance. Snow is sitting in bed, distraught and almost catatonic with regret over what she did. Charming tells Gold that Snow saved his life and that he needs to repay that debt by protecting her. We later see Regina searching through her mother’s belongings in her vault. She finds a curse scroll and says “Thank you, mommy.”

Later that day, Gold takes Charming to Regina’s vault to look for anything that might tell them how she plans to seek revenge. They find that Cora’s old apothecary box is missing some spell ingredients. From that, Gold is able to deduce that Regina is planning to enact a curse that will make Henry think he loves her, and that will destroy Snow’s heart. When Emma hears this information, she asks Neal to protect Henry. Henry is still angry at Emma for lying to him, but goes with her to meet Neal at Granny’s. Neal suggests to Henry that they go hang out in New York for a little while. Henry agrees, but also says that magic is ruining everything. If it was gone, he feels he could have his whole family. Henry excuses himself to go to the restroom, then sneaks out the back of Granny’s. We see later that he steals dynamite from the Dwarfs mine and plans to destroy the well. Henry believes that this act will rid SB of magic.

While Henry is running through the woods, he bumps into Greg, the outsider who had been a patient at the hospital. Greg sees the name tag on his backpack and calls Regina to let her know he saw her son running through the forest alone. We then see Greg taking photographs and snooping around in the woods. We know he has already filmed Regina using magic in the hospital and he is obviously looking for more evidence.

In 1983 SB, we see Regina having dinner with Kurt and Owen. Kurt says that his wife passed away and he and Owen are trying to start a new life. They live in New Jersey, but came camping as a way to help take their minds off the death of his wife. Regina mentions that she also came to SB for a new start. She asks Owen if he would like to help her make some apple turnovers. While they are cooking, he tells her that he hates New Jersey. He says all the kids treat him differently since his mother dies. She tells him she understands, that it is like a piece of his heart is missing. Owen tells Regina that she should be a mom one day because she is great at it. Regina realizes in this moment that a child who loves her and accepts her unconditionally may be the one thing that can fill the void she feels in her heart. Kurt comes in to check on them, and Regina asks if he and Owen would like to stay in SB. He tells her that their home is in New Jersey and they can’t stay. Regina says she understands, but we can see in her face that she is crushed.

In present day SB we see Henry arrive at the well. He has a large stack of dynamite that he places at the edge. As he is about to light it, Regina arrives. He tells her that he has to get rid of magic so that everyone will be safe. She says that blowing up the well will not get rid of magic, and that she can enact a curse that will make him thinks he loves her. He begs her not to do it. Emma, Charming and Neal arrive and Henry jumps in between the Regina and the group. He asks them to stop fighting. He says he wants his whole family. He wants to rid everyone of magic. Regina says she can’t give up magic, but that she can do something to show him she loves him. In a swirl of fire, she burns the curse that would have forced Henry to act like he loved her. He thanks her, but instead of hugging her or showing her affection, he leaves with Emma. Despite doing the right thing, Regina is again left alone.

In 1983 SB, Regina uses Graham’s heart to tell him to stop Kurt and Owen from leaving town. Kurt walks in and sees her. She tries to explain as Graham rushes in and tries to arrest Kurt. He is able to escape and make it to his truck. He and Owen speed trough the town trying to escape as Regina and Graham race behind them in the sheriff’s car. As they reach the edge of town, Graham is able to pull his car in front of Kurt’s truck. Kurt tells Owen that as long as he keeps the keychain his grandfather made, he will always know that his father is with him. He tells Owen to run away as Graham pulls him from the truck and handcuffs him. Owen crosses the town line and Regina yells after him. She says she thought he wanted to stay, that she thought he loved Storybrooke. “Not like this” he says to her. She tells him she is sorry and that she just wanted them to all be happy. He cries and turns to run away. She is left standing watching as he runs. Later we see Owen arrive at the town edge with 2 police officers. Only now, the town line is not there. They see nothing but the forest and an empty road. Owen weeps and yells that he will find his dad, that he will never stop looking for him.

In present day SB, Regina has a visitor to her home. She opens the door to find Snow standing there. Regina is shocked as Snow asks Regina to kill her. She says that if Regina kills her all the fighting and sorrow will stop. Regina, still devastated over her mother’s death, reaches in and pulls Snow’s heat from her chest. She smiles, and instead of crushing it she turns it so Snow can see. There is a black spot swirling in the center. Snow has blacked her heart by her actions leading to Cora’s death. Regina tells her that once a heart has been blackened, it just grows darker and darker until it is consumed. Snow is sobbing and Regina thrusts the heart back into her chest. Regina smiles, saying she doesn’t have to destroy Snow now, she will destroy herself with the darkness and lose everything.
