reviews are trickling in, and it looks like it\'s one of those remakes that no one asked for or needed.
meanwhile, caused all the controversy ever for daring to exist as a female-led movie (despite being quite good, not that that\'s the point), and horror remakes are everywhere.
But there are others. Others you won\'t know about. Others you\'ll
you didn\'t know about. Here\'s a list of remakes that might have passed under your radar. (We haven\'t included titles like
because, hey, they get remade or rebooted every five seconds.)
) is attached to direct this redo of Brian DePalma\'s crime thriller about an immigrant who rises to the top of the UK crime world. The movie is currently in the script stage and hasn\'t yet cast its lead. But Al Pacino starred in the original so whoever takes it on has got some tough boots to fill.
Charlie Hunnam will play the Steve McQueen role, with
\'s Rami Malek taking Dustin Hoffman\'s part in this redo of the 1973 true-life story of two French convicts plotting their escape from a remote prison island. The movie is currently in pre-production with Danish director Michael Noer at the helm.
McG made two movies over a decade ago but now Elizabeth Banks, who directed
(and is an actress) is on board to direct and produce. The movies were based on the \'70s TV show so there\'s plenty of room for her to take it in a different direction and she could be just the woman to re-start a franchise surround kick-ass female agents. David Auburn, who wrote
This has already been shot and is currently in post-production, so look out for it early next year. The original was the incredibly creepy story of Vietnam veteran Tim Robbins, who suffers some extremely disturbing hallucinations and PTSD after returning from the war. David M. Rosenthal (
) directs – the film stars Michael Ealy (
). How closely it\'ll stick to Adrian Lyne\'s nightmarish original is yet to be seen.
Actor, writer, director and producer Sarah Polley originally wrote the screenplay for this update of Louisa May Allcot\'s seminal American text, but this month actor, writer, director and producer Greta Gerwig has been brought in for a re-write. No cast or director attached yet but former Sony head Amy Pascal is co-producing.
This one is not strictly speaking a remake according to producer Douglas Wick – it\'s more of a "20 years later" spiritual sequel to the supernatural teen movie about a group of outsiders who harness witchy powers and take it a bit far. Leigh Janiak who made decent horror movie
will direct and co-write. No news whether any of the original cast members will return but neither Rachel True nor Fairuza Balk seem desperately keen on the idea of remaking it at all.
It\'s been kicking around for a while but last year Fox acquired the rights to this remake of John Carpenter\'s dystopian classic and are apparently at the script stage with
creator and writer Neil Cross penning the screenplay. He seems like smart choice – if they can throw in Idris Elba as Snake Plissken, the convict parachuted into a maximum-security Manhattan to save a crash-landed president, then they\'ve got a guaranteed hit on their hands.
We\'re not going to lie, this one seems a bit odd to us, not only because it\'s been adapted several times already. Kenneth Branagh is directing this new adaptation of Agatha Christie\'s Hercule Poirot story where the fastidious Belgian investigates the murder of a wealthy American on a train. Branagh will play Poirot himself while
man Ridley Scott are producing. Look out for this in 2017.
