Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Plot Twist: Epic Fail or Epic Win? (Opinions regarding Miss Universe 2015 Finale)
Contestants posing, supporters bracing and at-home patrons leaning off their seats as they awaited the words that would come out of Miss Universe 2015\'s host Steve Harvey for the last 3 Contestants that made it to the finals. There it was, the mind numbing anticipation that graced everybody\'s being as mere minutes caused hearts of both the beauties and the audience to race. The final announcement, the moment of truth, the words that would make any viewer hold their breath longer than when they announced Miss USA as the 2nd runner up.
"Miss Universe 2015...",host Steve Harvey started as suspenseful music played in the background. "is..."
Stray shouts from the fans of Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines were heard. "Philippines! Colombia!" and as Steve took one final look at the audience he finally broke the news.
And there it was, like a herd of sheep was released, the crowds broke into chants as they celebrated the yet again win for Colombia. The lady in question then celebrated herself as she took and waved a flaglet of Colombia whilst Paulina Vega, the previous winner putting the sash and crown on her. The camera shifts as she goes for one final strut to end the worldwide pageant. At this point, it could be said that Colombians were ecstatic to finally have yet another Miss Universe title holder while the Filipinos, while a bit disappointed from the "almost" victory promptly accepted the result as they thanked the Gods for reaching at least "1st runner up".
"Excuse me there\'s been a mistake...", and as people thought the program was over, their hearts were yet again running as commercials were cut off and canceled for this announcement.
"I apologize but...the Miss Universe 2015 is actually Philippines"
Okay...terribly long opening stuff aside (as far as openings go), let\'s talk business...
the Miss Universe 2015 big Plot Twist. The one that sent people\'s jaws to drop and turn tears of joy into tears of defeat (and vice versa). Now, I could
not tell you enough how much my body involuntarily shook when that "Excuse me" first came out--like seriously! Me and my family were actually moving away from the Television to finally eat our suspended lunch after what we thought was the end when this came along. And it seems we were not the only ones as mere minutes and even seconds, Twitter posts were already going wild over this! And I only searched for the official spelling of Colombia! (haha, my cousin actually asked me to Google it since a bunch of people on Facebook misspelled it.)
Alright, so with that notion we just got ourselves a crying Miss Columbia,a very shocked and confused Miss Philippines and a LOT of raging people out to get Steve Harvey for the mistake. So let\'s talk about this from different angles, starting from Steve Harvey up to the angry mob.
Steve Harvey- OKAY GUYS enough with the theories on how/why he could\'ve read it wrong because quite frankly it was just an honest mistake. It was not scripted or anything...he probably just forgot to read "1st runner up" first and went straight ahead for the name. (I was initially confused why he didn\'t just read 1st runner up first before the real Miss Universe)And what do you know? turns out he confirmed it himself at the press that he just misread the card. (I was watching the news, okay?) Alright, with that out of the way,let\'s look at it from his perspective...How would you feel if all of the peoples\' attention were on you at that particular point in time? With this being a Pageant watched by literally the whole world-or the universe if you wanna put it like that, Steve Harvey would have felt the pressure weighing on his next words even though he was just reading from a card. Think of it this way...you remember those classes where you would recite a poem or something in front of a class? Memorized or not, it\'s still not surprising if you were to make a mistake...and that\'s OKAY, because people make mistakes and like a true man Steve corrected it instead of letting it go just to keep his pride intact from the world. He didn\'t wait for a cue just for him to go back on stage and break the news that it was all false, he did it himself, to avoid a bigger conflict and to make things right.
To me that would\'ve been better than going to bed only to be haunted by nightmares formed from guilt...haha, that would\'ve been terrible considering the seriousness and actual standing of the event. Anyways he already posted apologies on Twitter for it, so give him a break guys.... ... ... ... Okay, just heard about the post where his Filipino friend supposedly told him the translation for "I\'m sorry" was "Tangina" and posted it,so all I gotta say is...*facepalm* I have yet to find this particular post but if it\'s true, then I hate to break it to you because 1) "Tangina" is a curse word and if I had to say an equivalent it would be "motherf***er" and 2) Who the heck translated that thing? Haven\'t we had enough spite already? The trolls man...oh, and for the information of all "pasensya na/pasensya" is the translation for "I\'m sorry" in Filipino.
So now that we got that established let\'s move on to our very own 2-minute title holder
Miss Colombia| Ariadna Gutiérrez but before that let\'s take a quick recap of Colombia\'s history in the Miss Universe pageant: Since the Pageant\'s 64-year history, there were only 2 (and briefly 3) Colombians who were able to bring home the title "Miss Universe" for their country:Luz Marina Zuluaga in 1958, Paulina Vega just last year 2014, and for a short amount of roughly 2 minutes Ariadna Gutiérrez just this year 2015. So with that being said, we can easily imagine how outraged her fellow Colombians were after their moment of celebration was shortly taken from them. Putting the audience aside, we\'re here to talk about Miss Ariadna.
So analyzing this event, from the window seat, you would be thinking: It isn\'t that bad, she could get over it...at least she got the opportunity to make her country happy even for a brief moment. And yes, that is completely agreeable-to me, at least. Honestly if I were to get caught in that situation (let\'s put the level lower and say it\'s just a school thing), then I would gladly give the medal to the rightful owner because I\'d honestly think them more worthy than me, but then again, that could be my reoccurring pessimism. That aside it seems pretty simple if it\'s only you yourself at stake here...but what if it\'s not just you at stake? And that my friend, is another reason that I think makes it even harder to risk, and add the facts about Colombia\'s history in the Pageant I think this just puts more weight on your shoulders-and in this case Miss Ariadna. When you got a lot of people\'s hopes depending on you,the only choice you got is to make everybody proud...and in a competition this big,the way to achieve that is by winning. Clearly, you could see Ariadna and her fellow Colombians\' emotion flow out the moment she heard herself called out there. And for being a big time title holder in just 2 minutes, It\'s safe to say to say that she still brought home that Colombian pride. If you ask me,"1st runner up" is still worth it.
Alright! All this drama aside...let\'s take a look at
Miss Philippines| Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach- So what was Miss Pia\'s reaction to all this? Well, it was quite obvious how utterly shocked and confused she was (and she even admitted afterwards)but putting that aside it could also be seen how she didn\'t really expect anything right from that first crowning of Miss Colombia. With her 2 consecutive loses in joining beauty pageants, particularly the "Binibining Pilipinas", I could imagine why she wouldn\'t,especially since "Miss Universe" is a whole other scale. But then as fate would have had it, she was actually destined to be crowned and woop-de-doo, she was left in the sidelines, completely shocked beyond other movement while her fellow competitors urged her forward--and that\'s when the complications started.
With the whole world bearing witness to this plot twist (including me) Live, needless to say there were some "violent reactions" and from both Miss Ariadna and Pia\'s faces it could be said that this whole event suddenly dropped to a whole other level of akward. And by Pia\'s perspective...taking back the crown. Now before we continue, let\'s go back to the moments before this whole fiasco and I don\'t know about you but I could clearly see how close Pia and Ariadna were during those countdowns from Top 15 up to where they stand now. That being said, let\'s go back to that painfully akward moment...how the hay would you feel if you were in a position like that? Gosh, I\'d feel really guilty if that were to happen to me...and I think Pia\'s feeling it too, considering the "Miss Universe" we just thought for the last few minutes was actually false and now tearing up. Geez, no wonder Pia was petrified...and at that moment, I actually thought that their friendship would end then and there just because of that simple mistake. (I\'m looking at you False article of Miss Columbia taking Suicide.) Nonetheless...we were still happy that Philippines was able to get the title once again despite some repercussions to be had. But in all honestly, we would still be proud whether or not she was Miss Universe or 1st runner up.
Epic Fail or an Epic Win? Well...thinking it over,it could be classified as an Epic Fail with Filipino trolls and outraged Colombians going out to get Steve Harvey but looking at it at a different angle, I think this event could also fall under Epic Win,well,at least Miss Columbia thinks so as it garnered the attention she initially wanted for the Latin countries. I mean, think of it this way...they both technically "won" right? Both for the 1st runner up
and Miss Universe 2015, so by that added with the experiences and friendships they gained along the way, I think this qualifies as a win-win. At least, that\'s my opinion...What do you think?
Alright...controversial stuffaroos aside, go check out these links I referenced...among other stuff like watching the news and the actual show live. Congratulations on your country winning and making the front page with this article :D
Thanks! :D Though I plan on changing the conclusion...or rather rephrasing it since it seems pretty weak.
Great article, it\'s very detail and I am glad that you\'re also a Beauty Pageant fan like myself.
Hehe...it\'s more so that I could show my support for our country but thank you for the compliment! :D
this was the most shocking crowning in all M.U history. But I have to say that I knew Miss Philippines was going to be the winner after I saw her first official photos.
