I remember visiting this website once...
It was called CBS ‘Supergirl’ Cast Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El | TVLine
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
And filling the plum role on the upcoming CBS series, TVLine has learned, is
Per the CBS series’ logline, Kara Zor-El escaped her home planet of Krypton amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she has concealed the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now, at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.
‘s Marley, Benoist’s credits include appearances on
RELATEDMeet CBS’ Supergirl (and Her Sister), Get Scoop on Kara’s Big Entrance
roles to be cast include Kara’s science-minded foster sister, Alex; Cat Grant, the CEO of CatCo, a media conglom Kara toils for; CatCo colleagues James Olsen and Wynn Schott; and Hank Henshaw, the Supergirl-obsessed director of the the DEO (Department of Extra-Normal Operations).
), both of whom will exec-produce alongside Sarah Schechter (of Berlanti Productions) and Warner Bros. TV.
Look, down in the comments, it’s… you having opinions!
Aww if anyone I wish Becca Tobin would have been cast
Melissa Bonet is such a dull, flat actress.
She’s an extremely talented stage actress, a lot of that was lost on Glee.
I really hope Melissa is a better actress than what we saw on Glee. I’m hoping it was terrible writing and bad directing that made her acting so flat, so I’m willing to see what she can do as Supergirl.
I must agree with Ann that Melissa Benoist get the right writing and directing to make her role as Supergirl/Kara Danvers come alive. I wanted to wish her all the luck in the world.
Don’t have anything super nice to say about this casting news, except that I trust Greg Berlanti, so I have to believe he saw something there. Question – is she going to be blond?
Really don’t know if casting Melissa Benoist is the perfect choice for a lead role.
This casting news just reaffirms my belief that this Supergirl reboot is going to be a disaster.
No Offense to Melissa but agree. Besides we have plenty of other superhero tv shows to watch right now. Not that I mind, but it is the revolving door or villains that is starting to boggle my mind on all the different shows, so I am okay if this one doesn’t go to series.
I want one with a female protagonist. So yes, I love Flash & Arrow (Gotham is tolerable) but none of them are lead by women.
I don’t think Melissa Benoist is the next big thing, but it would be kind of ironic if one of the much-maligned new kids from Season 4 became the biggest star to come out of Glee.
She was bland and boring in Glee. I have my doubts about her as Supergirl.
To be fair her character was bland and boring in Glee. I thought she did what she could with what she got. She was actually pretty good in Whiplash so i’ll wait to see the pilot to judge her as Supergirl.
I’ve never seen her in anything, but I’ll give her a fair shot.
She was very good in whiplash. I think Glee held her back a bit so im not bashing the casting yet till we see some episodes
Hmm. I didn’t care for her in Glee. I’ve kind of felt like this had disaster written all over it since it was announced. Hopefully, I’ll be wrong!
I look at this casting and say meh, and then I remember how much I didn’t like Grant Gustin when he was in Glee. However, now I don’t think I’d want to see another person take his place in The Flash as Berry Allen. Both my brother and I agree that Grant is great in the role.
For those that may not know. Wynn Schott = Toyman, Hank Henshaw = Cyborg Superman
Ugh. Nothing good has come forth about this show. If it survives half a season it’ll be a miracle. It’s like the movie Catwoman with half @$$ Supergirl in the lead.
I heard Claire Holt was offered the gig but turned it down
what spin? She really did turn it down she didnt want to do TV anymore since she has been doing TV since she was what 15?
She wasn’t offered the role. She tested and was seen as the frontrunner for a while but she didn’t have the availability in her schedule to make the commitment.
I found her really boring on Glee. And she really didn’t stand out much to me in Whiplash. I’m rather disappointed in this casting news. I do trust Greg Berlanti — but then he cast Katie Cassidy as Laurel in Arrow, so he’s not perfect.
After reading the article and reading about the yet to be cast characters, my reaction is an even bigger meh….
So with Gotham on Fox, Supergirl on CBS and the various CW show, is DC/Warner Brothers just invading every network except ABC? Trying to do to Marvel on TV what Marvel did to them in the movies? It won’t work of course, cause they really do not understand how the modern entertainment industry works, but I am curious what’s gonna be on NBC next.
But DC is kicking Marvel’s butt when it comes to TV. Marvel has Agents of SHIELD, which is not widely loved. They have Agent Carter, which is a little better, but still on one network. They will be expanding to Netflix, but how well that will work out for them, we still don’t know.
ABC has become a billboard for Disney properties. Once Upon a Time and Agents of SHIELD are little more than infomercials for bigger properties. Meanwhile, DC is spreading their properties across different networks which will get them a lot more attention than if they kept their focus as narrow as Marvel… Simply put, DC is writing the rule book for how to produce comic book shows right now. They are schooling Marvel when it comes to TV.
Marvel has made more money in the box office recently. Then again, DC’s slate of films is just starting to trickle out. There is plenty of time for them to make money.
I doubt that ABC would ever pick up a DC property considering that their parent company, Disney, also owns Marvel. That’s a big reason why the ratings for SHIELD and Agent Carter don’t really matter, it’s all produced in-house, and with the movie and profits generated from the Marvel movies, the Marvel TV shows are basically the best advertisement you could get, keeping the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving and in front of people’s eyes.
She was pretty dull on Glee but then again her character was dull in general, so I won’t hold her to that. As long as she ups the personality, I don’t think she’ll be bad Kara.
Then hopefully Claire Holt can return to TO. That show needs her. I’d also like to watch her, but I’m not interested in Acquarius.
Berlanti must have a thing for Glee kids. He did well with Grant Gustin so I’ll try to be optimistic about this.
Claire Holt was my ideal choice so I’m disappointed but I like Melissa and enjoyed her on Glee so I’m happy with this choice.
I was hoping for Claire Holt. I don’t believe she was offered the part but I wish she had been. She would have totally been perfect for the role.
I don’t know the actress, I’ve never watched Glee and I don’t remember her on Homeland but for all the bad comments about the actress, I remember the reactions were exactly the same when Grant Gustin was casted as the Flash and now I could not see anyone else on the role. Wait and see, I will surely give it a shot.
im sorry but Supergirl has meat on her bones as well as a big chest. unless they casted her as a young Kara when she was on Krypton.
OH MY GOD PEOPLE GET OVER IT!!! The show hasn’t even be filmed yet and there’s already whining! There was going to be backlash either way no matter who got cast. At least give it the benifit of the doubt before you start voicing destain.
its called an opinion if you have a problem with it don’t read the comment section.
Like I said chucklehead it hasn’t even been shot yet.
I know nothing about this actress, but DC has been doing well with their shows, so I will be checking this out for sure. If it is good, it will be a miracle since I can’t stomach any CBS shows and haven’t really watched the network in years.
She ruined Glee and is going to ruin this show before it even airs.
I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt…but she was absolutely terrible on Glee…
Never watched Glee so no opinion on the actress. But Berlanti has been good and CBS des provide a lot of eyeballs so I suspect the show has a good chance to succeed. Besides which, you can’t have too many superheroes on TV.
This casting takes a lot of air out of my excitement tires. While her acting is a mixed bag, she doesn’t look the part IMO nor does she seem to fit the role of most of the recent incarnations.
I like your kara cousin of superman your beautiful I like you Good luck…
