What To Expect From The Doctor Strange Trailer: Ancient One, Rachel McAdams\' Role & More!
We might be busy getting hyped for Captain America: Civil War, but there's another huge and exciting Marvel movie coming our way in 2016: Doctor Strange. This film will introduce one of Marvel's most powerful and best loved characters to the MCU, and it'll really shake things up by incorporating magic to the story.
Doctor Strange's powers are rooted in magic and mysticism, which is something new for the MCU to explore.
Ant-Man and Agent Carter season 2 helped to set up Doctor Strange by introducing the Quantum Realm and Darkforce (called "Zero Matter") respectively. But this film will still be a game-changer and we can't wait for the trailer when it finally drops next week. And with plenty of mysteries surrounding the movie, we've got a long wish-list of what we want the trailer to reveal.
First on the list has to be Tilda Swinton's Ancient One. In the comics, this character is hugely important: as Stephen Strange's mystical tutor, the Ancient One teaches him everything he knows, and later bestows upon him the title of Sorcerer Supreme.
In a twist on the tale, the Ancient One will be portrayed by Tilda Swinton in
Doctor Strange, which makes this version of the character markedly different from his original male incarnation. As Kevin Feige teased to Entertainment Weekly, Swinton's interpretation of the Ancient One will defy any expectations we have.
"Look, [Tilda Swinton is] a chameleon in everything she does. She has this amazing [ability to] harness of this androgynous sense. So, we use the term 'her' and 'she' in the film but, other than that, it’s very androgynous. Because it doesn’t matter."
Tilda Swinton likes to bend the rules of gender.
We've had no set photos or any official images of Swinton's Ancient One yet, but considering the importance of this character there's no doubt we'll see her in the trailer.
When Rachel McAdams was announced to have a role in
Doctor Strange, many fans assumed she'd be portraying Stephen's long term love interest Clea, an immensely powerful character in her own right. However, we're pretty sure now that this isn't the case.
Rachel McAdams will ground Stephen Strange.
Although we still don't have a name for this character, it was recently revealed that McAdams would be something of an audience-insert, allowing us to see Doctor Strange through human eyes. Kevin Feige described her role to EW:
"[She's] a fellow surgeon that has a history with Strange and is his sort of lynchpin to his old life, once he steps into the role of a sorcerer. She is someone he connects with at the beginning, and reconnects with, and helps anchor his humanity."
This could mean that McAdams' character is intended to play the role of Night Nurse in the MCU, which is something the Netflix shows partially set up with Claire Temple.

Only the trailer can shed more light on this, so here's hoping we get to see McAdams in action soon!
Doctor Strange has got a lot to deal with in his first solo movie, with antagonists coming at him from every angle. While Chiwetel Ejiofer has been confirmed to be playing Baron Mordo, Strange's nemesis from the comics, Mads Mikkelsen has also taken up a villainous role. Recently,
set pictures teased an epic battle between these characters, as well as Amy Landecker's mystery role.
Obviously, we're itching to find out exactly who Mikkelsen is playing, and the trailer should shed some light on this. As Feige told Cinemablend, Mikkelsen is yet another rogue sorcerer, who has broken off from the Ancient One's tutelage to "form his own sect". With any luck we'll actually get to see snippets of this epic battle when the trailer drops.

In the red corner, you have Marvel. A comic book company with a rich heritage behind it, including ...
Finally, we'd like to see some kind of nod towards Marvel's other big film this year:
Civil War. In the comics, Doctor Strange chose to sit out the conflict, taking himself off to the North Pole to meditate while his peers fought it out.
It's unlikely we'll something like this: as
Doctor Strange won't be released until later this year, it makes sense that chronologically speaking this movie will take place after Civil War. Does this mean the Doctor Strange trailer could tease the outcome of Civil War? It's certainly possible, or maybe we'll just see some of the aftermath as a small Easter Egg. Even if the reference isn't obvious, you can be sure the fans will find it.
That's about it for what we want to see in the trailer, but what about you? Let us know in the comments!
