We are now at the Top 10 mark and after this countdown is over I will be writing an article for the top 10 most heartbreaking scenes!
It will be a big help if all the people voting could comment WHY they picked what they picked and maybe even explain why they think some of the other scenes are more sad.
For example, the scene where we find out the huns burned down the village, killing all the villagers and then took out the entire army including Shang's father is so incredibly sad, but I feel more shocked than sad.
Cinderella's mother's dress getting ripped up (Cinderella does say in the animated movie that it was her mother's dress), Ariel crying on the pier, Eugene and Beast's death, Moana saying goodbye to her grandmother, the dwarfs crying over Snow White, and Rapunzel thinking Eugene left her are the ones that make my heart hurt more compared to the others
Yes, the moment when they discover the village isn't that sad, but what comes after, with the little doll, is, so I would vote out this one first. There is too much going on for it being a true tear jerker moment.
The village being dead is very sad and heartbreaking. I never really understood this scene as a child, but it is very heartbreaking now that I know what happened in this scene.
The dwarves crying is so sad as well and heartbreaking because they think that the princess is dead and she meant so much to them.
Beast's death is heartbreaking because of Belle's reaction to his supposed death. She is shocked and heartbroken and it makes the audience really feel sorry for her.
Eugene's death is heartbreaking for the same reason as the Beast's death is heartbreaking, but I think it is even more heartbreaking because of the last lines they exchange with them being each other's new dream. Rapunzel lost everyone she cared about in that one moment as Gothel was dead and now the first person to ever love her has died as well.
Ariel crying after King Triton destroys her collection got me really heartbroken because I have had times where my father will yell and throw things and break my stuff when he was mad. I understood Ariel's situation and I felt truly sorry for her that her whole collection was gone and her father destroyed all chances of her being able to go on land.
Ariel crying at the pier is heartbreaking, but not as heartbreaking as the other scenes. She feels that all her dreams have been shattered because Eric does not choose her.
Mulan saying she sees nothing is another heartbreaking, but not very heartbreaking scene. She feels like a failure, a disappointment to her family, and that her ambitions and effort was for nothing.
Moana saying goodbye to Gramma Tala is very heartbreaking and is one of the few Disney moments that I cry during. Gramma Tala reminds me a lot of my own grandmother and just imagining her dying makes me very emotional.
My second choice would be the village in Mulan because, as other users said, it is more shocking than sad. But that scene is more tragic to me than Rapunzel thinking Eugene left her (the moment with the doll really gets me), so I'm picking this one instead.
