Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds Welcome Second Child

And baby makes four for Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds!

The actors have welcomed their second child, a source confirms to PEOPLE.

Lively gave birth in New York. No further details — including the baby’s sex and name — are known. Reps for the couple could not be reached for comment.

A source close to Lively, 29, confirmed to PEOPLE in April that she and Reynolds, 39, were expecting baby number two.

alum made her baby bump debut at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival in May, when she stepped out for the premiere of her film 

— whose New York City premiere she also attended in July, outfitting her growing bump in a beautiful gray and pink dress.

In fact, Lively was quite the maternity style maven to watch throughout her second pregnancy, from her numerous fit-for-royalty gowns at Cannes to the premieres for her summer films, including her survival thriller 

Milkshake: check. Comfortable shoes: check. Having a slit in your dress to make you feel better about the aforementioned: check.

Both Reynolds and Lively come from big families and have shared their hopes for a big family of their own.

“I’m one of five kids. My husband is one of four, so we’re officially breeders,” Lively joked on the

show in June. “You can go on our website and we will give you some of our children.”

earlier that month that she wants to give her kids a “nice, normal upbringing.”

“We don’t ever want to rob them of what we had because then we’d feel really selfish,” she said, adding that, “All my eggs are in one basket, and that’s my family.”

star Reynolds is no doubt excited to be a second-time dad.

“I don’t have to prepare to be wrapped around my daughter‘s finger,” the former Sexiest Man Alive told PEOPLE of James for a February cover story. “I have been wrapped around her little finger since the day she plopped out into this world.”

And regardless of whether the couple’s second child had been a boy or a girl, the new dad of two — who has three older brothers — would have been equally overjoyed.

“I would love to have a little boy at some point, but I would not be an unhappy man if I had a six-person soccer team of girls,” he joked to PEOPLE and

Why even announce the birth if they aren’t going to tell us what the sex is or the name?? Pointless…

Hmmmmmm…Since their little girl is named James, will they name the new baby, Mary, if it’s a boy?

@Melissa if you read again they did not announce the birth…the always informed “source” announced it…

Congrats to them! And kudos to them for keeping their kids out of the public eye & allowing them to have a normal childhood. Seeing some of the comments about James, her name (which has great importance to them, as that was Reynolds’s father who died just before James was born & Blake herself was named after a male relative), its for the best.

No one needs to know if they had a boy or girl. Just wish them well, move on with your day and try really hard to get over yourselves. SMH

Judging from the already nasty comments, I hope this baby takes after Ryan’s Canadian side and learns to be nice and kind.

It was announced because PEOPLE announces whatever they want, whenever they want. They don’t need details or facts to move forward with their articles! I doubt Blake and Ryan called a PEOPLE reporter and told them to spread the world. There are enough paparazzi out there to let the cat out of the bag when she showed up at the hospital. Duh!

Blake is doing all the right things, she is stable and comes from a solid family…she has her head on her shoulders; she now has two kids…unlike Paris who is running around the world, on the shelf like a chicken with no head

Poor daughter James – hard name for a girl to live with. Why make her life hard from the beginning??? Have a brain, parents. And why say anything now if you don’t want to give gender or name. These 2 needto think before they act. Dumb.

Good for them for keeping the details private. Unlike some celebs, who claim to be private but gleefully seek publicity and attention at every turn *cough* Natalie Portman *cough*, Blake and Ryan really are private.
