Fanpop Users For Charity

I was just thinking today, browsing the Human Rights Spot as I always do, if there was any possible way we, as an international village, so to speak, could think of one way to help others. And then, I had it! Now, first of all, just so you all know, this idea of mine will NOT involve money! You won't have to pay a cent! Which means financially dependent users can partake in this activity as well. But it IS a way that we can really get motivated about making a difference in our own local communities. And think about how many fanpoppers there are! Even if we only count the ones in this spot, that's (as of today) 1003 fans! Now, (this won't happen, but) if every one of those fans got inspired and went out and did some small charity in their own backyard, think of the impact we can have! So What do I have to do? you may be asking. It's simple: Anything you want. Ambiguous, I know, but I will give you examples and suggestions to help guide your hand. And, when you have done this charitable thing, just comment on this article and you AND your good deed will go up on the "Fanpop Humanitarians" list. Now, this isn't a contest. We are not going to vote on who did the best good deed. Because, while I love our Fanpop contests to death, I feel that when it comes to humanitarian effort, it shouldn't be about prizes or winning anything. It should be about helping. But I also believe that a little bit of incentive can go a long way. Such as "volunteer requirements" for classes, or "community service hours" for the IB. It definitely gets people out there and doing stuff. So I hope you'll see this as an incentive. You will be recognized for your work, and you will be applauded by your fellow fanpoppers, who will be similarly doing good deeds. Now, I'm an idealist, but I can force myself to have a reality check every now and then. So I would love it if every fan of the Fanpop Users Spot went out and did their good deeds. But I know that people are busy, or uninterested, or preoccupied and can't or for whatever reason won't participate, and that is fine. In fact, the pessimist in me (who often duals with the idealist for control) is saying that no one will want to do this, and that people will think it's lame. But I figured, what could it hurt by trying? SO HERE'S THE DEAL! As I stated previously, you go out and do your good deed. It can be big, or it can be small. And it can definitely consist of multiple deeds. It can be any time, any place, involving anyone. Even if you got paid for doing it, or reimbursed for your time, it still counts, because you were still doing good work. I am contemplating having different categories... but that's if people are even interested. I'll leave that up to you. Fanpop Good Deeds Include... A) Volunteering at any place or organization that needs it, including homeless shelters, animal shelters, soup kitchens, hospitals, schools, etc. B) Assisting a friend, family member, neighbor, or whatever, who needs your help. For example, cleaning up your grandmother's house because she is unable to move around as well as you can. Or helping your friend look for his lost dog. Or volunteering to rake your neighbors leaves (preferably free of charge) because you know he has a bad back. C) Joining a non-profit organization that helps your community such as Habitat for Humanity or Big Brothers Big Sisters of America D) Donating time or money to any organization of your choice. E) Anything you can think of that helps improve your community or the lives of your neighbors and fellow human beings. When you do these things, be sure to report it by commenting on this article. Your name will appear on the list, along with the good deed you did, the date you did it on, and a little factoid or interesting tidbit you learned or would like to share about your experience. Example: Cinders did a good deed on August 18 by joining Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Her little sister's name is Jorja, and she is really good at math. or harold did a good deed on August 18 by volunteering at a homeless shelter. He met a war veteran and amputee named Sam, whose retriever-lab mix was named Jilly and they shared a sandwich. (DISCLAIMER: THESE ARE NOT ACTUAL EVENTS!) If you have a link to the organizations home page, include it so other folks can check it out if they're interested! Sound like fun? Let's kick this thing off with one of my good deeds. FANPOP HUMANITARIANS WALL OF FAME That's it! How about you guys give it a go? |

wow my most idiotic comment yet
and hurray for me influencing my fellow fanpoppers everywhere
I need to stop confusing nice people with my crazy talk.
While I check my calendar, I'm eager to see whether I'll get a deed done before you get the "better logo to come soon" posted.
this is a great idea!
but now I must go do a new good deed for my community...
i think i have found my good deed, we have a beautiful castle which is a 20min walk away from my house....seen here it recently recieved a piece of grafiti by the steps you can on the photo and the entire hill is also littered as it is one of main walking/walking my neighbors dog/photography places i think i will organize a group to clean it all up
so that people won't feel so intimidated by others
I've spent the past month taking a neighbour's Husky pups back to their home. The pups (about 6 mths old so they are big) keep on getting out and running up and down the main street - not street wise at all. Luckily my dogs have alerted me, so I take them back - even at 1:00am. A few days ago one of the pups got out again in the middle of the day and there was no one home. So I called the RSPCA to help ... my only concern that these pups don't get killed on the main road. I kept my eye on the pup to make sure he was safe until the local council turned up by which time so had the owners. Did I get a thank you? No! They abused me for "reporting them." Well, I guess sometimes a good deed just doesn't go unpunished. I'd do it again (for the animals) regardless of these people's ungrateful attitude.
i would hug you but i don't wana catch anything
*hands soup at arms length*
although fanpop is good to go with bed rest ;)
