Whatever the official Japanese translation is. Yaoi is supposed to be an Japanese anagram for "no peak, no point, no meaning." It's smut, porn, it has little to no no story, X-rated BL.

Traditionally it only referred to doujinshis that literally had no plot other than two people boning for no reason, but it expanded. The doujinshikas I managed to get emails back from had a difficult time trying to explain the exact definition of June.

I was reading yaoi back in the 90s. I never thought I would see the day when it was published in English & sold in American book stores.

We didn't have scanlations back them; You had to buy a raw book & go off a sheet of translations. then the fansubs of stuff like Ai no Kusabi, Zetsuai/Bronze, Kaze to Ki no Utta, & Kusatta Kyoushi no Houteishiki started coming out.
