"Keep running. Keep running." I kept mentally screaming at my legs. They couldn't stop. If they did, who knows what could happen. I rounded another corner. There was that shadow, following me. Shaped like a man, but a man wearing a cape. Who wears capes these days? Totally tacky.
I ran and ran, pumping my legs harder and harder. Finally I rounded a corner, my foot found a pothole, and I went down. Hard.
My arm took the brunt of my fall. Still, despite which part of my body hurt the most, I was down. Now that man in the tacky cape hovered over me.
He held out his hand, "Join me child. You have no idea what kind of power is stored within you."
"NO!" I screamed. I covered my face with my hands. "I just want to go home!"
Even though I couldn't see his face, I could tell he was smiling, "It's too late for that now, young one. You have destroyed it. Everyone in it too. You now have no family, no friends. This city will hunt you down, and kill you if they get their hands on you. If you join me, you can fight back. You will never be weak."
"No no no," I said over and over, shaking my head.
Now he was frowning, "I was hoping we wouldn't have to resort to these methods."
Next thing I knew, long poles of metal were wrapping around my body, keeping my arms and legs pressed to my sides. I couldn't move. I could hardly breathe. I screamed but knew it was hopeless. I was being kidnapped.
I started to hover above the ground with him as he controled the metal. We moved over the buildings and houses with backyards to match. When I looked to my right, I could see the firetrucks and pillar of smoke, black as pitch, that emitted from the house underneath it. The house that was now covered in flames. The buildings nearest my house had been burst apart when the boiler blew. I was sure that he was right. I was the only one who had survived.
Tears dropped off my face, and fell to the ground like a cloudless rain. What had I done?
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a blast of red hit the mysterious man in the cape. I dropped like a rock. I was going to hit the ground, harder than I had before. This time, I probably wouldn't survive.
Again out of nowhere, I was saved, by another mysterious person. A woman with long brown hair that also had a long white streak running through it. She looked down at me and smiled, "How're you doin' sugah?"
She set me down on the ground, and a red lazer cut my metal bonds. The same red that had blasted cape man out of the sky. I looked up to a hand gloved with yellow. I screamed.
"Looks like she doesn't much care for your face, huh Cyke?"
"Shut up Wolverine. With the way she's squinting it would be a wonder if she could see at all."
As a matter-of-fact, I couldn't see. I blinked a few times, and my vision started to clear. I saw a large black jet with the stairs hanging down and a dozen or more people standing on or near it. They were all dressed in some of the wildest costumes I had ever seen. Obviously, I was scared.
"Wh-who are y-you?" I managed to studder.
Two of the people moved aside to reveal a bald man in a wheelchair, "We are the X-men little one. And we are here to help you."
Just then, 5 metal rods shot toward me. Then they stopped in mid-air, just floating there.
"Nice save Jean. Now will someone grab her already?!"
A blue, fuzzy ape-like creature grabbed me, and carried me onto the jet, "I apologized for my sudden interference, but I'm sure you appreciate this much more than if he were to acquire you."
"Who is he?"
"'He' is Magneto. A mutant criminal mastermind who was once a friend of the professor."
"Who are you?"
He set me down in one of the black chair on the jet, "Yes I guess proper introductions are in order. I am Henry McCoy. My friends call me Hank, and in battle, like we are now, I am referred to as Beast. That must be self-explanitory, shouldn't it?"
"Are all of you...like..."
"Are we all funky looking mutants?" A rough looking man, who only looked a little taller than 5 feet said. "Yeah, bub. We are."
"Why am I here? Why are you helping me? I just killed tons of people!" I yelled.
A beautiful woman with bright red hair put a hand on my shoulder, "We've all done things in our past we're not too proud of. The difference between us and Magneto out there is we don't want to take you by force. I'm sure you can understand these circumstances are a little different. Anyway, Magneto wants to use you in a war with humans. We want to help you control your new gifts. I know they might not seem like gifts now, but they will when you know how to use them properly. My name is Jean Grey. I am just one of many people here who will help you further understand where you are. It will take some time, but be assured we have all been where you are, so no matter what happens to you or to us while you are learning, we will understand."
I suddenly felt a little safer. A beeping sound started going off, completely out of the blue. The woman with the white streak looked out the windshield, "Uh y'all. We've got a teensy problem. Magneto and crew are comin' up hot and fast."
I ran and ran, pumping my legs harder and harder. Finally I rounded a corner, my foot found a pothole, and I went down. Hard.
