I never thought I’d see the day when I posted fan fiction, but here we are. I feel the need to explain myself so I’ll take a little time to do that. I have seen a lot of awful fan fiction and all that horrible fan fiction made me start thinking of what makes those fan fictions so bad. So I made a list, and from that list I made a rough outline of a more realistic fan fiction (or so I think), and from that outline I started writing this and figured since I’m writing it I might as well post it. So here is the beginning of what I hope will be an okay but fairly short fan fiction. Please leave me honest comments. Tell me if my characters are unlikable or unrealistic and please tell me if I spelled something wrong or my comma is in the wrong place. Because that’s the only way I’ll ever learn to not act like such an idiot.
Sunlight streamed into Mary's room as she looked up affordable colleges in the Oregon area. She scrolled endless pages and clicked many links until she finally grew frustrated with her search. She sighed and spun her desk chair around stopping to stare at her bed. It was a small thing covered with a fluffy yellow bedspread and white pillows. Above it hung a poster of Lon Chaney she had specially ordered online. Next to her bed was a bookshelf filled with VHS tapes, Blu Rays, and DVDs. Here and there on her white carpet were pieces of dirty laundry, clothes hangers, and the occasional DVD case. Her closet was overflowing with clean laundry and shoes that hadn’t been put away properly.
Wow I have got to clean this place up sometime she thought looking at her dresser that was also scattered with DVD cases. Mary finally returned her attention to her laptop which was set on top of a desk strew with empty wrappers and dirty cups.
All this college searching would be a just bit easier if I could choose a damn major she thought. She had been searching since before she graduated and that was a month ago and all her friends were already getting acceptance letters. Mary hadn’t even applied to any yet! To make it worse she had been finding bugs in her room all week. Yesterday it had been a spider in the corner, and the day before that she had found ants on her desk, and the day before that she found three moths attacking her window. Just this morning she had woken up to a giant bee sitting on her nose. Mary hated bugs almost to the point of it being a phobia and usually lost her cool when she found herself within ten feet of one. Her mother kept telling her the bugs wouldn’t show up if she would just keep her room clean but Mary’s room always looked like this so why did they just now decide to invade?
All these damn colleges and damn bugs are stressing me out. I'll just go over to Memebase for a couple minutes. Just to give myself a little break.
“Mary, are you ready to go to the store?” Her mom called from downstairs. Mary jumped and changed tabs automatically.
“Uh, yeah mom just a second.” Mary had finally talked her mom into talking her to the store to get some heavy duty bug repellent. She was going to straight up bathe her room in poison. Mary slipped on her shoes and skipped down the stairs. Her mother was waiting by the door purse and car keys in hand.
“You know if you would just clean your room sometime we wouldn’t have this problem.” And already her mom started the nagging.
“I know, I know but now it’s so bad I just want to make sure they’re dead.” Mary knew it was better to not argue and just agree. For all she knew her mom could be right. It’d been at least a year since her last big room overhaul and who knows what was in the dark corners under the bed and in the closet.
As they walked out the door and to the car Mary noticed a mysterious buzzing noise behind her. She looked over her shoulder and saw a swarm of mosquitoes heading straight for her.
“Ahh!” She screamed as she sprinted towards the car. Her mom was already in the car and threw the door open for her. She jumped in and slammed the door closed just before the swarm got there. They were crawling all over the windows and were soon joined by bees, flies, and ants. Watching all those little legs scurrying over the windshield made Mary start to sweat and she could see her hands shaking. She buried her face in her knees but the image seemed to be imprinted on the back of her eyelids. She couldn’t take much more of this.
“Would all these damn bug just leave me the hell alone!” Mary shrieked. Suddenly she couldn’t hear the buzzing any more. She looked up and saw all the mosquitoes and bees were gone and that the ants were slowly making their way down the side of the car. “Well… that went better than expected.”
