Mad Hatter, also known as Jervis Tetch, is a Batman villain that's based off of the Alice in Wonderland character of the same name. I'm a huge Batman fan and the Mad Hatter is one of my favorite book characters, so I'm a big fan of Batman's version of the Mad Hatter.
The Mad Hatter was created by writer Bill Finger and artists Bob Kane and Lew Sayre Schwartz.
The Mad Hatter first appeared in 1948.
In Batman, there have been two different Mad Hatters. One of them is a villainous Alice in Wonderland fan who uses his technology to control people's minds. The other version of the Mad Hatter is a mustachioed man that is obsessed with hats and has a strong desire to get Batman's cowl. The mustachioed Mad Hatter is often considered to be the "Imposter Mad Hatter", while the other Mad Hatter is considered to be the real Mad Hatter.
The mustachioed version of the Mad Hatter has little, if anything, in common with the Alice in Wonderland version of the character. Batman's other Mad Hatter is heavily inspired by Alice in Wonderland. The other version of the Mad Hatter loves referencing Alice in Wonderland.
The Mad Hatter was one of many Batman villains to appear in the classic storyline called The Long Halloween.
There are Alice in Wonderland themed characters in Batman, including Tweedle Dee, Tweedle Dum and the White Rabbit. Also, Batwoman's sister is Alice.
The mustachioed version of the Mad Hatter appeared in two two-part stories in the classic Batman series. He was played by David Wayne. He was one of the few villains that was referred to by his real name in the show. This version of the character is remembered for turning Batman's cowl pink.
The Mad Hatter's first cartoon appearance was in an episode of The Adventures of Batman. Like the other villains in the show, he was voiced by Ted Knight.
In Batman: The Animated Series, the Mad Hatter was voiced by Roddy McDowall. Roddy McDowall played the Bookworm in the classic Batman series. In the show, the Mad Hatter had a crush on a woman named Alice. This version of the character received a redesign in The New Batman Adventures. He also appeared in an episode of Superman: The Animated Series.
The Mad Hatter was a recurring antagonist in Gotham. He was played by Benedict Samuel. In the show, he was a corrupt hypnotist.
The Mad Hatter has never appeared in a live-action Batman film, but he did have a supporting role in Batman: Bad Blood. He also had cameos in some of the other animated Batman films.
