In today's session, I decided that I would let Galiah experience some of humans technology and forms of entertainment, Using the assortment of things I could find, I was wondering what would peak her curious mind. We started with something simple. The internet
G: What is an internet?
M: It's a lot of things. A sort of superspace highway or something fancy people say, where you can speak with people all around the world, find things in the span of seconds, get news from anywhere and find whatever you need. It's an endless source of knowledge and facts
G: Oh, I think I get it. Can we see what we can find
M: Sure
Letting her take hold of the keyboard, she seemed to struggle a bit at first, though she slowly started to get the hang of it. She was capable of typing out the words necessary while her eyes glazed back to the screen.
G: Find me Yosseppi Yar'gaal
Only a few results showed some strange usernames and a man in Yugoslavia who looked nothing like what Galiah was searching for
G: Find me the weakness of the Droven
No results whatsoever
G: For a sea of endless knowledge, it sure is limited
M: It's all limited to the human world, Galiah. You need to search something simple
G: Oh, oh, I know. Let's search for Alana's house
Typing in Alana's House, gave results to a few random locations, some foreign celebrities and a cake shop in Egypt. Galiah was confused and ultimately disappointed in the internet, so I decided to move on
We moved on to the games that were downloaded onto the computer. I didn't bother going into the specifics of the games, and decided to start up a simple one, well simple for her
G: What is this Street Fighter The Second?
M: It's pronounced Street Fighter 2. It's a game, a pass time amongst humans. There's more advanced ones than this, but I thought we'd start with something simple.
G: Wow, these all look like formidable fighters. They even have one that looks so close to Sammy and Kyung and Yoon here
Seeing her compare the Asian residence of the household to Chun-Li was something I was quick to remedy.
As she started, she was struggling in the game, pushing many of the buttons to see what would happen. When the game would announce she lost, she gave a cheer.
G: That was a good bout, friend. I respect your strength
M: It's a fake character, Galiah. He cannot hear you or understand what your saying
G: But he moved with the grace of a formidable fighter. How could it be anything else but real? Unless it is a sort of illusion created by magic
I knew that to try and explain any further would result in a few hundred dollars in damages, so we moved on to the last test.
I had set out my phone and my playlist of tracks to see how she would adapt to modern music. The headphones were very awkward to put on her pointed ears, so we tried earbuds instead. I played some of my favorites to see how she would react, specifically "There is a Light that Never Goes Out" by The Smiths.
At first, her eyes darted around the room, as if trying to find the source of the music
G: Where is it? What is that noise
M: It all comes from the earbuds. Galiah. It's a way for people to listen to music on the go, so they don't have to listen to live events or hear it on the internet
G: You can listen to musicians play their artform on the internet? I never knew that was possible. So you can transfer their own voices into these machines
M: In a sense. It's more complicated than that
G: Well... This certainly is a rather enjoyable song. I've never heard anything like it, but... it's very lovely. I must know the name of the talented group that played such a melody
M: The Smiths
G: The Smiths? A musical family with such an honorable name. I hope to meet the Smith Family one day
