in books she became a vampire when she met the salvatore brothers(her father thought she was ill but she was trasforming and came at the salvatores) ...so she is the same age around 500 with damon and stefan.she was more powerfull because she was made by an original.

Damon and Stefan are 176 years old, not over 500.
