The Vampire Diaries TV Show Question

I am really confused!!

I get that Elena is adopted so Isobel or whatever isn't her mother, but WHO is then? And who's her Dad?
And I've heard people talk about DAMON being her Dad and I was like ew!
So, now I am totally confused as to who her parents are.
Does all the answers come up later on??

See, Elena's aunt Jenna adopted Elena when her parents, with last name "Gilbert" died at a car excident. The woman and the man who died, adopted Elena when she was a baby. Isobel gave birth to Elena and left Elena on the doormat from the Gilbert's.. (I guess it was the doormat, I'm not totally sure). And her dad... we don't know who he is.. Alaric Saltzman, the history teacher, was married with Isobel, but Isobel gave birth to Elena when she was 16. So.. I think it's not Alaric. I don't think he had known Isobel for so long. Maybe we'll discover who's Elena's father. (sorry, I'm Dutch).
