I defied the natures of the relationships based on what is literally readable/stated in the books and also confirmed by Anne Rice herself, so all of them ought to be accurate. I must say though, not sure about Armand – she said Armand is madly in love with Lestat but was it two-way thing, I doubt but am not sure and they def do remind me of siblings, so it’s lover/friend, whatever.. :D So if you do disagree on the nature of some relationship, you’re of course free to let it known, hopefully reasoning why.
In some of the cases I put options, like Louis and Nicki are in Anne’s image indeed both lovers and friends to Lestat but the way those relationships are described in the books, it’s very easy to see them as merely close friends, and while Anne has said it is not essential to imagine them as lovers, I felt that should be an option, while pointing out they are supposed to be both in the author’s image.
Lestat & Claudia is by Anne described a father/daughter but Louis always said she was just a student/doll/infant prodigy to Lestat… And in the end I think both is the case. I personally can not see the tru(er) Lestat, (how he describes himself), as any kind of a father-figure – I always saw it a teacher/student thing. But again, I felt like both natures should be given.
Needless to say why I don’t allow people to add choices but included that one basically general option there.
Sooooo… As always I adore Marius as Lestat’s companion above everyone else and I swear this will never change. (And you know, this time, I can say never without the slightest doubt. Some things are meant to last.) Louis comes a close second, they’re waaay too entertaining and cute. Nicki makes the third best, but mostly when they were mortals.
So, what about yours?
Though David would be a good choice...just...I dunno..Lestat/Louis FOREVER
this question is asking your opinion, your liking - not Lestat's.
I have read 'interview with the vampire' and yes on the surface Louis' narrative is full of hate, but you have to look deeper to see that he actually loves Lestat. As is revealed in the later books, his character does not really change in that respect (obviously parts of him does change). Louis loves to be sorrowful, he feels he need punishment for past mistakes, during Interview he is still caught up with it, and being his narrative it is full of hate, and sorrow, and so on the surface it does appear that he hates Lestat, but if you step back and see it from a different angle, i.e. Lestat's, you'll Louis actually loves Lestat, and vice versa. Its not good enough with these books to look at them on the surface. You'll discover a lot more.
Its like when you have a cat-fight with your friends, at the time you hate them so much, they're complete bitches, and they can never be your friend again etc, but a few months down the line, looking back, its not that bad, and you see that that person actually is your friend, and you see beyond the fight, and that they've always been there for you.
I know he loves quite easily and he certainly is easy to love, but I kinda wish she wrote more just-friends to him. They could still have more aspects as in be complex, which of course always makes things more interesting.
The only lover-related relationship of the listed ones that I personally find really interesting, is with Gabrielle. I find it fascinating how she never was really a mother to him and then, likely because of that, she becomes a bit of a lover to him in the vampire existence. (:
I mean, Nicki and Louis - I love those relationship no matter what the nature - (to me merely close friends / borderline lovers) - but something about them just doesn't strike me quite as special in the lover aspect. (: They are, in their own way, fascinating ones, but Gabrielle and their background for it kicks butt.
But my point was, why couldn't she write more friends to him without any romantic aspect/touch? Friends are important!
