It was called Comic-Con: The Strain cast and crew preview 'cool and surprising' ending
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Only days after the premiere of the fourth and final season, the cast and creative team behind FX’s vampire drama assembled at Comic-Con one last time to showcase some special footage and tease the “cool and surprising” ending.
Taking part in the Thursday panel was showrunner Carlton Cuse, co-creator Chuck Hogan, and cast members Corey Stoll, David Bradley, Kevin Durand, Ruta Gedmintas, Miguel Gomez, Richard Sammel, and Max Charles.
“No one is safe,” admitted Cuse. “Not everyone survives. The fun thing of the show is, we get to play out the end of that narrative. You’ll find it cool and surprising.”
One character sure to make it until at least the last episode is Eph, who portrayer Corey Stoll says has “lost his drive to save the world.” Your kid setting off a nuclear bomb can do that. And while the actor wouldn’t get into details in order to avoid spoilers, he went so far to declare a moment in the upcoming series finale to be his favorite from the entire run.
“The events of the last episode [are] so well done,” he shared. “For people who have read the book and know how it ends, and for new people — they kept it true to the spirit of the show and the books without the same things happening.”
Sammel praised the “courageous” decision to depart from the novel trilogy, which was written by Hogan and
director Guillermo del Toro. The move allowed for the introduction of new story lines and characters, including hacker and fan favorite Dutch (Gedmintas), who returns in Sunday’s second episode after being absent from the premiere.
“When you make a television show, it’s organic — you see the characters come to life, and you see what relationships develop,” said Cuse. “We followed those things in the show that interested us as writers. We never thought our obligation was to follow the books closely. They became part of reference and we gave ourselves a lot of latitude.”
What else can viewers expect in the final nine episodes? More flashbacks, as well as heroes Eph and Gus (Gomez) finally coming face-to-face for the first time with a “heart-to-heart” to share their “stories of loss.” But don’t expect to see the special scene shown during the panel, which featured all of the characters in a role-playing group therapy session run by Cuse as the shrink.
