The Hunger Games Question

Anybody else irritated with character bashing?

Especially with Peeta. I mean, dude, the kid started as an innocent bakers son, then he was just thrown into a life or death siuation where he almost died multiple times, then, thrown in AGAIN, and really did die! And Katniss can't even decide if she likes him or not. Give the dude a break... (Feel free to talk about any other Bashing of characters!)

YES! What about all the hating on the career tributes? I'm sure they had their own stories. They weren't just there as ruthless hate magnets, duh!

EXACTLY!!! I'm pretty sure the if the Hunger Games was in the point of view of a career, Katniss would look bad. The careers also have feelings too you know. The careers love their family too you know. They might be a tad more violent, but they (just like Katniss) was trying very hard to win. Try thinking the Hunger Games in a career point of view people. There would be more pressure to do better than the other people.

I know Peeta was trying to do what he thought was right but yet people say they like Gale more. Gale had 4 years but yet as soon as she leaves he gets all jealous and mad.

Unfortunately, a lot of people are incapable of fully grasping the complexities of a story, particularly with first person narratives. People grasp onto characters, connecting with some more than others, and instill their own feelings and perspectives on what happens; altering the realities of the story to match their view. This can be seen with the Peeta vs. Gale debate (and I know this because I’ve argued with many Gale lovers). When it comes down to it, the vast majority of fans want Katniss to be with the boy they themselves would want to end up with it. Instead of seeing it from both sides of view, they romanticize what Gale does and bash Peeta to help assure themselves that Gale is superior. I’ve seen it done the other way too, where people use the argument that they love Peeta so therefore Gale sucks, but there’s more evidence supporting Katniss/Peeta so they can usually back up their argument when criticized. It can also be seen with people bashing Katniss, which upsets me even more than bashing Peeta. People just assume that they would be able to fully handle everything that Katniss goes through, and they rip her apart for being too immature or reacting in a way they disapprove of. What people fail to be able to understand is that they have absolutely no idea how they would react to everything that happened to Katniss, particularly in Mockingjay, until it happens to them (which hopefully never ever happens). As for bashing Peeta, I’m getting really annoyed at people saying the only reason he survived was because of Katniss. Peeta did a lot more than people give him credit for, and he’s the sole reason the rules were changed in the first place; which is insanely incredible considering he was the first one able to manipulate the Capitol citizens in 74 years of hunger games.

Honestly, I like Gale but I'm perfectly fine with Peeta too. Character bashing isn't considerate to other fans and the author. I never bash Peeta. Yes, I'm tired of character bashing. I swear, it's everywhere. :/
