As many of you probably already know, I’m NOT a fan of Zendaya AT ALL and think she’s one of the worst actresses that ever walked the face of the planet. She, like every single role she’s in, was horribly miscast as Anne Wheeler in The Greatest Showman. A big conflict with the character is that she’s a woman of color, specifically a full-on black woman, in love with a rich white man during a time when people considered such a thing to be a sin, much like how many people on Tumblr and Youtube can’t tolerate different opinions that don’t agree with theirs and will attack mercilessly like big babies. But I digress, so it’s important that the character of Anne Wheeler actually look like a woman of color for the conflict to work but it doesn’t due to Miss White-Passing Zendaya that doesn’t even look black, hell, she looks more white than she does biracial. She was only given the role because Hugh Jackman’s daughter was a fan of Zendaya and she didn’t even have to audition like the rest of the cast did. So her not having to work hard to get the part and not looking the part coupled with her terrible acting performance and lack of chemistry with Zac Efron made for some horrible miscasting, not to mention that she looks like a fourteen-year-old girl despite her real age being twenty-one, which looks awkward next to Zac Efron who looks like an adult. So here are five actresses I think would’ve been better suited for the role than Zendaya, but really almost everyone is more suited for any role over Zendaya. But if we were to go over every single actress that was better suited for the role than Zendaya, this post would take over fifty years to read. Hell, even elderly white men are better suited for the role than Zendaya lol.

5.Lupita Nyong’o
Anyone who has seen Lupita act knows that she is a brilliant talent and has never failed to truly deliver. She’s one of the most talented actresses of all time, top 10 easily! Not to mention that she is absolutely gorgeous and is very vocal about loving her really dark skin, African American facial features, and her corse hair that black people are known for. A movie about learning to love yourself for who you are no matter what would definitely be something Lupita would wanna sign up for without question. I also have to say that she and the actor that plays Anne’s brother, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, look like they could play brother and sister. It would definitely look WAY MORE convincing than having an actor that is as dark as Lupita play the brother of someone as white passing as Zendaya. The reason Lupita isn’t higher is because I’ve never heard her sing. I’ve tried to look for a video where she sings but there isn’t one. Even if she can’t sing, they could always dub her singing like they did with Rebecca Ferguson.

First of all, I have to say that Pepi is the most beautiful black woman that I’ve ever seen in my life, yes, even more beautiful than Halle Berry. Now with that out of the way, she’s an amazing actress and has proven that in every scene she’s in on the show Famous in Love. Not only can she act, she can sing too. She has a beautiful voice and I wish we heard more of it in the show, I especially wish there was a full version of the song The Morning After Goodbye. Her voice is A LOT better than Zendaya’s and unlike Zendaya, Pepi wouldn’t have to rely on having her voice be overly-produced with autotune. Zendaya may sound good in the movie, despite the noticeable autotune, but she does NOT sound good live and is mediocre at best. Pepi actually looks like an actual black woman, unlike Zendaya, and even has displayed a variety of different hairstyles that are traditional for African American women, showing what a true beauty queen she is. Her character on Famous in Love, Tangey, is like a well-done version of Anne Wheeler in a way, except she has an actual personality and an identity outside of being a love interest (Even though she’s not in an interracial romance). She’s not higher because I just feel the others are better suited for the role.

Yes, I know that Vanessa Hudgens isn’t a black woman but listen to what I have to say with this choice before you judge. If they made some slight changes to the story, a way that Anne Wheeler could’ve been considered a freak would be how she’s shunned for being biracial, though that wouldn’t work for Zendaya because of how she looks like a white girl and isn’t that much darker than Zac Efron. First of all, let me explain Vanessa Hudgens nationality before I get into how being biracial could be the reason Anne Wheeler is considered a freak. Vanessa is part Chinese, Filipino, Latina, Native American, and Irish. She’s a biracial woman with a unique background, that’s for sure, and unlike Zendaya, actually looks like a woman of color. Anyway, back to the being a freak because of being biracial, people who are biracial aren’t only shunned by white people but also by the racial minorities that are part of their ethnicity, even though you don’t have to be part white to be biracial, contrary to popular and IGNORANT belief. Vanessa has a small part of white heritage to her with being Irish while everything else about her are different groups of people of color. Someone like Vanessa would be considered a freak during the time period that The Greatest Showman takes place and her only other option of survival besides being in Barnum’s circus would be becoming a prostitute. People back then may have shunned people like her but even the bigots back then were attracted to exotic women like her. I mean, black female slaves weren’t considered to be human beings but their owners still would rape them because they liked the “thrill” of being with an exotic woman. Disgusting and despicable but it’s a sad fact of out history that is kind of still true today, unfortunately.
True, it would be hard to find an actor with the same racial background as Vanessa, seeing as she’s a very unique racial mix, to play her brother but Anne’s brother isn’t really a necessary character in the movie. I mean, he never interacts much with Anne to where the brother-sister bond would leave much of an impact on the audience. He’s really just there to launch her into the air and make two or three over-protective big brother looks at Phillip. Hell, he’s basically a human-sized accessory to Anne and has even less personality, which is sad because of how Anne is really just nothing more than Phillip’s arm candy (As well as a way for Zendaya to have a part in the movie) and has no personality.
Anyway, Vanessa is an amazing actress and has a great singing voice, which she has proven with her performance as Rizzo in Grease Live. Even her most hardcore haters were shut up by her performance as Rizzo, especially since her father died just a day before the live show happened. Her voice has such a smooth vibrato, it’s powerful, unique, and full of passion and personality. She also has experience in Broadway musical theatre, which is the style that the music in The Greatest Showman is in, so she has the right credentials for the part. She can go from playing Gabriella to Rizzo, who is basically a tougher and brunette version of Sharpey, which shows how versatile she is. She can be full of so much emotion in her face and voice, has good comedic moments, and is just an incredible actress. She has so much charisma, style, and stage presence. Her acting and vocal talent have really grown since her days on Disney Channel.
Speaking of which, I know I’m not the only one who would love to see Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens play a couple in another movie outside of the High School Musical movies. Despite the flaws in Troy and Gabriella’s relationship, Zac and Vanessa have such electrifying and undeniable chemistry that it makes the couple so great and likable. Vanessa has already proven she has fantastic chemistry with Zac, unlike Zendaya, and now that the both of them are older and have improved/molded their acting and singing skills since their High School Musical days, their chemistry would be better than ever. She’s not higher because I just feel like the other two are better suited for Anne Wheeler.

For those of you who don’t know who she is, she’s basically like a younger version of Jennifer Hudson. I mean, seriously, she looks like her and has a voice/vocal style that is just like Jennifer Hudson, which is part of what makes her so amazing. Out of all the actresses listed here, she has the best voice, yes, she even has a better voice than my number one choice. It’s so powerful but isn’t generic because it’s full of range, is so rich, doesn’t sound like yelling, and sings with such emotion, passion, and personality. I particularly love her cover of Sia’s song, Chandelier, it’s better than the original. She even manages to take the crappy songs by the untalented singer Lorde and make it sound like a masterpiece. She’s also a great actress, which she’s proven in the Disney Channel movie Let It Shine. She has so much emotion and genuine sincerity to her acting that makes me wish she had been considered for the role of Anne Wheeler. She’s the least talented actress out of everyone on this list but she’s so high on here because of how amazing her voice is, and she’s still a great actress. I have no idea why she hasn’t been given more attention and isn’t more famous when she’s so incredibly talented and so beautiful. Also, despite being a year younger than Zendaya, she actually looks more like an adult than Zendaya does. She looks like an adult and definitely looks like she could be related to Anne’s brother. She’s not higher because I feel like my number one choice is the perfect choice.
1.Keke Palmer
Keke Palmer would’ve been absolutely PERFECT for the role of Anne Wheeler in The Greatest Showman. She should’ve been cast in the role instead of Zendaya! First of all, she has a great voice and it’s really improved as she’s grown up. I had to add three clips with two of them being of her playing a character and singing a song and another of her just showing how powerful her vocal chops are. The girl can seriously sing! She’s also an amazing actress and has been acting since she was a little girl, with her breakthrough role (Before being True Jackson VP) was being the protagonist in the movie Akeelah and the Bee where her performance received critical acclaim and outshined the professional adult actors when she was only ten-years-old. That should tell you just what a phenomenally talented actress she is. While I wouldn’t say she’s a better actress than Lupita, Keke definitely can hold her own. I also feel like she would be able to bring a lot of personality to the character of Anne Wheeler. I mean, I think all five of these actresses would be able to do that, but Keke would accomplish it the best because she adds her own flair to the characters she plays. Hell, the director of Akeelah and the Bee said he chose Keke because of how she had such stage presence and had such an understanding of commanding the script when playing the character. She adds the right amount of sass, style, flair, goofiness, and emotion when playing a character. She has her own unique style of bringing a character to life, even ones that have been played by other actresses like Cinderella in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella and Marty from Grease. Speaking of which, she has some Broadway experience with playing Cinderella, a poor girl that is in love with someone of upper class just like Anne Wheeler, despite the subject of race not existing in Cinderella because there is a lot of color-blind casting in Broadways shows. It also shows how versatile she is in not only her acting but also her singing abilities. As Cinderella she showed she could sing in the classical style. If only Hugh Jackman’s daughter had better taste and was a fan of Keke Palmer, who would’ve been the PERFECT choice for Anne Wheeler.

EAT YOUR HEART OUT ZENDAYA! As well, as stop getting parts in big projects like The Greatest Showman and Spider-Man Homecoming without even having to audition like everyone else. And more importantly, quit acting because you suck at it and stop stealing roles from others that are better suited for them than you! A shame that I’m wasting my time typing this last paragraph and she’s never going to even see this, let alone take it seriously lol. Oh well! I hope you guys enjoyed this and let me know what you think. If you like Zendaya as Anne Wheeler, that's fine, though I have to disagree. It's important to accept different opinions.
