Personally i think that she could do good on her own, but i understand how she craves love, she needs others to feel like she could make a difference, i mean have you heard her song 15? "When all you wanted was to be wanted, wish you could go back and tell yourself What you know now. " its all there.

But on a side note, i thought her and Shark Boy were Cute together. They really seemed happy together.
