if you go on your profile, is there a link who say's "upload photos" next to you user icon (the "snowman"). there can you upload photos which will be in you own gallery, and you can choose pics from there to have as your uses icon :)
go to your profile click add a picture and click brows you will see things to pick from on the side of it click pictures and pick the picture you want to be your icon and you have a picture this is my pic
