Getting a soul wasn't stupid, it was remarakable. So, I would say building the bot, because he wanted Buffy to love him and no matter how much the bot looked like her, it would never be her and eventually he realized that.

I would say the stupidest moment for Spike was when he lost the Gem of Amara to Buffy within 5 minutes of owning it. Either that or when he prematurely attacked the school in School Hard, ruining his carefully laid plans. Both have to do with his lack of patience.

Ahh yes, how could I have forgotten about that one? Loosing the gem of Amara that quickly, after having the genius to find it, that was stupid.

Yeah, I think the attempted rape was unnecessary. I wouldn't necessarily call it Spike's stupidest act, but definitely the saddest. As Nika said, it's doubtful Spike was "all there" at the moment. Not to say that condones what he tried to do. I'm just wondering why the producers/writers/Joss decided to include this scene.

As far as the Nearly raped thing (I would like to point out that he tried, but didn't go through fully raping her) I think in my opinion I agree with NikaDawson. "The lights were on, but no one was home." Kind of thing. I think for a split second Spike became that monster he was, only because his love for Buffy drives him crazy. He can't make her understand how much he loves her. I think in that moment he tried to (Obviously in a very bad way) But after that he realized he could become a man for her.

I think making the Buffybot was probably the most stupidest thing he could have done. I don't understand how he thought he could get away with it. It later on was very helpful in the fact with Glory though.
