Now i was just watching early season 6 Buffy (before OMWF) and i had a thought (:O omg big shocker) and so i decided to share it with you all. This isn't planned out or thought through or anything, i literally just paused the DVD about two minutes ago to write this.
It strikes me that the first time i watched the episodes pre OMWF, i kinda thought, big whoop. Buffy's being all depressed. I mean, not that i did';t like them, but that by that point i really wanted Spuffy to happen and hah heard they kissed in OMWF. I was rushing every so slightly to get there, and so wasn't particularly paying attention to what was actually happening to their relationship.
In Season 5, she always acted like she hater him, until Intervention when she got off of her high horse and realized he actually cared for her a he would do anything for her. Even then, that's all it was, but it least it was that; she treated him like a man, as he said, and in the last episodes they had a kind of agreement where she didn't beat him up because he wasn't trying to hurt her.
When she got resurrected, she found in him an easy friend who she could tell the truth, complain to, explain just how sucky her life was and he would sit and listen to help and not judge her. Her friends would get worried and guilty, Dawn wouldn't understand, and for her she thought it was so much easier just to make sure Giles didn't have to worry about her. In this way he came to fit in her life, and that's when she began to see him differently. She went out of her way to spend time with him because of the reasons above, and she found that he was her only friend. Quote on quote:
"...the only person i can stand to be around is a neautered vampire who cheats at kitten poker!"
Because of this time-sending, she begins to think of him in a very sexual way, when he tries to move her out the way or drag her off, she always reacts like a lightening bolt has shot through her system and goes all "hands off!" strait away. She wasn't like this before: she didn't immediately have that kind of reaction. I'm thinking this is because if he even lay a finger on her she thought what she considered for the rest of the season wrong thoughts about him: the less contact, the more she could be in denial and the more she would have to deal with these new feelings.
On several other occasions he says something that could be taken wrongly, but wouldn't if you weren't thinking about it. Even he, who basically vibes sexual and "ask me if im thinking about doing her," of him thought of them as completely innocent comments (most likely because he's come to terms with the desire). Again the first time i was watching this i didn't realize how many times it happened. I just thought "well that was quite funny," or something similar. I never noticed how it hadn't really happened before. Even thought i watched OMWF several times, this quote never really meant anything until just now when i was watching Life Serial and All the Way,
"So you just came here to pump me for information?"
"What else would i want to pump you for?"
On it;s own: okay it's funny, okay he kinda gives a 'why would you say that XD' look, but it's just a chance remark. When you combine it together with,
"Feel like a bit of a rough and tumble?"
*shocked face* "what?!?!"
and the heck loads of uncomfortablity and sexual tension of that moment (okay maybe sexual tension is too strong. It's more like: what do we do now? i can't think of anything to sya because it's wrong to be friends and oh shit why am i thinking about jumping your bones!") and you suddenly get a very keen vision of her mind and how her thoughts about him have changed.
That was the moment where i put all the touches and comments in Life Serial and OMWF (the only eps i either a) know well enough so i can quote or b) have watched recently enough os i can think about.) and you get a very interesting picture.
Okay thanks for letting me share my thought,s i probably ended up pointing out a load of stuff you guys already know because i haven't researched the topic properly :P
