Sonic Fan Characters Question

Help me with fancharacter confusion?

So.. What if you have an alternate version of an official character? Is that considered a fancharacter? Or...?

I'm merely assuming it is, but I want other opinions.

Thanks!

So... when it comes to alternate characters, I think they're still SEGA/ARCHIE-owned.

I actually mean as in you /made/ your own. It's not an 'Anti' or a 'Zone-Cop'.

Yeah I know. It's just that if you make a sonic fan character that's an alternate version of another character, it kind of belongs to Archie because it's still a version of that character. If it was a clone or a sibling or something it could still be a character, but even as an alternate version it's still the character

"Touchy subject. A lot of people who constantly judge and hound Sonic fans and their characters think the character should be 100% original and in no ways related to the Sonic series. I can totally dig that. Totally digable. But then again, if its 100%- then its not a Sonic fan character anymore. Its something else. I can also dig people wanting to be more apart of the series. And that usually reverts to having a character opposite of another canon character.

"I would think having an alternate version would be considered a fan character. But don't expect a lot of people to not pick on you about it. It'd still be considered 'unoriginal'. Still, if you don't give two flying monkey farts about other people's opinion, I can respect that and I think you should go for it."

Thanks for your opinion! I completely understand. I just got a teensy bit bored and I decided to an alternate version of an official character. I haven't really seen anyone do it before, so I was just.. I dunno.. Interested, I guess? But I've been told it's a good idea and I've been told that it was the complete opposite, but I respect that! I mean, I /did/ say I wanted opinions, positive ones or not!
