Sonic Fan Characters Question

Your view on recolours?

No matter how edited they are or how good it looks, it's still a recolour.

For or against? and why.

(I'm against)

Or "recolors" depending on where you are

Fantastic question. This is what I believe :

These motherfuckers need to be freakin' original. "Oh I can't dr-" SHUT THE FUCK UP!! The reason why you can't draw is because you haven't been practicing!! Our great drawers weren't great drawers when they started! So recolorers, grab a paper. Grab a pencil. Grab a big ass eraser for all your mistakes. Get on your computer. Look up a picture of a Sonic character (can be FC). And draw. That's all I'm asking for. -_-"

Long story short : I'm against.

Against and here's why

I find it harder to draw recolors than just drawing normally. On occasion I take my past work's basica form to use as a base for my current art, and even then it becomes harder.

I mean seriously. You first have to change ALL the colors, outline it, then shade it again, then outline it again, then add your little fake stuff. And it's REALLY rare that recolors actually look good in the first place.

Also it's not fair to the person that made the original art of course. They drew the pic, but if you say "I drew this" what you're really doing is trying to show your "art" and not let the actual artist find out. It's not appriciated, and no one's going to say "good job".

Unless you're recoloring as a joke (and not the "jokes" that a cetain Tawnjay hater made), it's not going to get good feedback, so why not instead keep practicing your own art, and get better at it? Everyone wins that way. You become a good artist, and people will like your art

I gotta say, even though I'm 100% against them, I used to be a recolourist. (oh, the horror! I'm ashamed of 2011 CLT XC) I stopped at new year, and it's only meant I've gotten better at drawing my own stuff. I strongly encourage any recolourists to stop a.s.a.p. They may think it's just so much easier to recolour now, but once you finish and start that 'originality' thing, you'll look back and wonder why the hell you even started recolouring. If that's not enough motivation to stop, then think about not being able to do as much with your art.
So, yeah, I'm completely against them.

I was a recolorer but for TDI not sonic but I felt so much more free to do my own and after awhile I got better and I got so much prouder then when I recolorer.Really if you wanta be a person who takes other people sweat and labor, edit it and call it your own,you need to have a reality check boy or girl :F

See, with me it depends. I'm against when it's fan art recoloured with nothing or very little added. I'm against it when it's a Sonic X screenshot recoloured with nothing or very little added. I'm against it when it's fan art recoloured to an original character. I'm NOT against it when it's a Sonic X Screenshot recoloured to an ORIGINAL character!
Reason for that, is because doing it straight from the screenshot is almost the same as using a base. Most bases I've seen are bases made from SX screenshots.
Basically I'm 75% against, 25% not against. But that 25% doesn't mean I'm for.

Sorry if this was confusing... I tend to write/type stuff that makes sense to me, but to no one else...

I'm generally against because, honestly, the original artists could get peeved if you did that. Also, THE MARY SUES THAT SOMETIMES RESULT OH GOODNESS.

I've recolored what.... a grand total of at least six times? I just got bored those times and thought "Hey, might as well try everything.", and the last time I did it was as a joke. I drew my first SFC, Conan the Cat. Drawing is much easier for me, and I had no idea how painstaking a recolor can be work-wise.

It's "i couldn't care less" if you say you could care less that means you must care in some way
