Sonic Fan Characters Question

Does it annoy you when...

people create fan characters somehow related to OCs? Like when they make a male character and he's Shadow's long lost brother, or a female and she's Sonic's 'one true love' or anything like that?
*
When you said OC, I was confused at first. Because OC can mean ""Original character"

Nope. I hate them, of course, but I long since stopped caring about irritants like that. Getting frustrated at things doesn't help solve the problem.

Instead, we kill it with fire.

I don't consider it a bad thing, but it isn't usually done right. At first the whole idea started out okay in the early fan-characters, but people just kept on making the same thing.

If you're going to make a long-lost whatever, make sure you look at the background of the CANNON character, and debate on if it would be usable. Some relative-options are very unique and usable. Unfortunately people find more interest in long-lost siblings than cousins, or nephews.

You can do it, but you should think VERY far ahead before you do. It's not a bad thing to do, but it needs to be through through

"It's more like a breeding pool for better ideas later on in character design. People who bitch and moan about how there's so many characters relaited to canon's have little understanding how design works. You have to start with something. Eventually this something will grow into your own idea. I think it more as the whole relation thing as training wheels for those making characters.
"Like me for example!" :D "I made Evolia reliated to Shadow the hedgehog, and now look at her! She's an entirely different character- no relation whatsoever, doesn't even know he exists ((Unless she's in those 'jusr for fun' rp's.))
"It doesn't really bother me though. I think it's nice to see people trying to mimic characters. It means they like them! And yes, eventually if they keep working at it, these characters will become a different part of the mold."

It depends on how much they're completely all-over them. E.g. if they're Sonic's 'one true love' that's ...bearable...but if they're forever like 'OhmigodSonicIneverwannaleaveyoueverevereverandneverleavemeevernomorestoppingdr.eggmanifyoulovedmeyoudwannastayjeezcalmdownhunitsnotlikeimdeprivingyouofyoursociallifeoranything!' then that's goddamn annoying. But, if they have a life apart from their canon relative, then it's a whole lot better.

It really depends. I do quite hate when they're DIRECTLY related (bro, sis, parent, etc.), but I can tolerate it if it's VERY well planned out or written, or if they're distantly, distantly, DISTANTLY related. Empahsis on "DISTANTLY".

"So you're one with an actual taste? As in you prefer those characters with well thought out backgrounds and reasons for their relations? Good."
