Yeh the Evil Tree was just a tree unitl the "winter of 79"
They buried the Hessian where they killed him, which just so happened to be beneathe the tree.
Then, i'm guessing, when Lady Van Tassel dug him up the tree was just a door to another world, but i don't think the tree was a door way before the Hessian was buried there no.

im sure that the sword that they put in the ground over his grave was half way up the tree when ichbod found it and that baltus van tassel said that when they buried the horseman, they had planted aSEED of evil so the tree grew from that evil seed, thats what i think
hmm.. i don't think its and mistake i think its more we've just misunderstood the film. still have to watvch the film.. seem to have miss placed the DVD, dound the box no dvd there.
yer it was just a tree but then the evil took over (i have wached it like 9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 times!)
