Bloody Bits: News and Notes for WGN\'s \'Salem\'
I don’t know about you, but the television show,
, over on WGN America, was a huge, surprise hit in my household. Watching it was a leap of faith on my part, since I had heard NOTHING about it beforehand, but now – I’m hooked.
And I won’t have to wait much longer for new episodes: season two of WGN’s
, “Witch War,” premiers on Sunday, April 5 – Easter Sunday, don’t ya know.
If you have not watched all, or any, of season one, you can do so on Netflix – but if you are one of the five people in the world who don’t have Netflix yet, tune into
WGN America on April 4 for a season one marathon! All 13 episodes will be aired, beginning at 7 a.m. Too early for me – but then again, I don’t cheap out on my digital streaming.
Meanwhile, for those of you who already consider yourselves heathens, here’s a nice piece written about Janet Montgomery over at Daily News in which she talks about her character, Mary Sibley, and the rest of the strong female characters on
Janet Montgomery doesn’t see why male actors should have all the fun of playing antiheroes.
“There are characters on television you root for even though they sometimes do bad things,” says Montgomery, who plays lead witch Mary Sibley on WGN America’s “Salem.” “But almost none of them are women.”
Mary Sibley is, and Montgomery says her good/bad behavior will intensify in the show’s second season, which launches at 10 p.m., April 5, and is titled “Witch War.”
“Everything is taken up a level this season,” says Montgomery. “Mary has her son back, so now she has his future to fight for, too.”
I’ve already professed my love for Janet Montgomery – she blends vulnerability, vengeance, and sexual allure into one delicious cocktail! Mmmm mmm good. I can’t wait to see how she adds the protective mother dynamic to her already extremely dangerous character in season two.
Last but not least, I highly recommend that all of you heathens check out this interview that Den of Geek conducted with show creators Adam Simon and Brannon Braga. The video was originally shared here, but I have included it in this post for your convenience!
