I think she's cute either way, but the shorter hair is more suited to her personality. Akane is very independent as well as athletic, and although many of the other characters have long hair, in sports or martial arts, shorter hair is really the way to go. That or keep it tied back like Ranma. Ukyo ties her hair back sometimes too. I have long hair myself, so I don't understand how Shampoo can stand to wear her hair down all the time and not fall over with a heat stroke or something.
