No. She might care for him, but in reality she wants him to be her husband so she can take him back to her tribe and show him off. It might be a crush, but its not love.
I think its just a crush. Akane's the only one who seems to actually want Ranma to be happy no matter who he's with and that is what I consider real love. The other girls are just not willing to make that sorta sacrifice.
I'm gonna haveta take pinkbun 17's side on this one. She's more in love with the idea of Ranma than loving him for who he is. Otherwise she wouldn't have pulled that read thread stunt. Shampoo was happy, but Ranma acted like a completely different person. This tells me she just wants to win Ranma rather than she actually loves him and just wants him to be happy.
I agree with the people above. I guess in a tribe where you have to marry the guy that beats you, Shampoo might have become infatuated with Ranma because she might have actually expected to have to marry some guy twice her age who was a master in the art, and then all of a sudden she's defeated by a handsome boy her age. When I see Ranma, I can understand why Shampoo became infatuated so quickly, but it doesn't change the fact that Shampoo really just wanted Ranma as a strong husband to show off to her tribe and make strong babies with.
I think she cares for him to an extent, but I do not think its love. IF Shampoo really does LOVE him, its a very selfish form of love. One that I just could never agree with.
She might. But sometimes I really wonder. About 3 or 4 years ago my answer woulda been "Absolutely! but I still like him better with Akane."
But as I grew older and re-read the manga, I really started to wonder and even doubt the truth in this.
For the most part, I think what some feel is that; its not that Shampoo is not in love, but she seems to be in love with a version or ideal of ranma that does not exist.
She definitely cares for him, but she does not know Ranma, so how can she love him.
It's also a reoccurring theme with many of rumiko takahashi's works and the cannon couples. Ranma and Akane live together. They know both the good and the bad of each other, but end up loving each other in spite of their flaws. In Urusei Yatstura. Lum and Ataru also live together and learn things about each other on a more intimate level.
Inuyasha and Kagome also spend a lot of time living together in their journey's which allow them to build a very strong bond with each other as they fall in love.
Ranma doesn't really show Shampoo his good side. She is not delusional like Kodachi with her Prince Charming fantasies. It was unbelievable how she started liking him tho. Does it make sense that she only likes him because he beat her? I think he's just her type. I mean Ranma is good looking, is really strong and has style.
