Whats your style for icons?

Usually I prefer a close up of the face having some kind of expression and ones that I edit myself. I have specific parts to my editing to make them my style, but that Ill keep to myself.

Mostly asking cos I noticed some people have some interesting unique styles in the icon contest
Whats your style for icons?

Choose this instead of Nagito cos its one of my better collages and I havent had the chance to make enough icons to make one of these for Nagito yet XD

I love doing icons where I desaturate everything except the hair and eyes and then give those some cool effects by messing with the contrast or doing some stuff with the engrave tool.

Here is one of the ones I'm more proud of.

It seems like everything I make or use is either

A. Feminine as fuck
B. Derpy and stupid
C. Dramatic

I guess my "style" or "method" is just that I apply my pre-existing art and photo-manipulation knowledge whether I mean to or not. Sometimes I learn knew things.
In general I try to evoke a certain feeling and what exactly I'm trying to do depends on the icon.

I'm particularly focused on composition, colour, and lighting, I think. Probably mostly composition. Since icons are a bit limited in how much you can control the picture- unless you want to do a full on photoshop job with it which is a lot of work for an icon- I think it's most effective to focus on how the image sits in the frame.

The first one I cropped/coloured actually literally only a few hours ago, the second one I literally just cropped because it was so ridiculous on it's own, and the last one I played around a lot with the values and light source that were already there. (it was originally a 100x100 size but I blew it up since the others were 200x200. The one in the corner is the actual size.)

After typing all that up it sounds like I put a lot of like thought or ~artistry~ behind my icons but I actually don't. XD This is all subconscious stuff.

Also what I make specifically for the icon contest varies a little bit from this sometimes since my style doesn't necessarily always fit into the categories.

Many would come to mind but the ones I can think of right now are:

1.Personality/mood defining icons
2.Vibrant icons (Like that lily vocaloid icon a while back)
3.Badass character (Like the one I have now
4. Or insert favorite character face as a icon (Regardless of what fandom it is)

Well, it really varies. I wouldn't say that I follow a specific pattern. There are various factors for choosing Icons like my mood at the time, need to show love towards a particular Character / subject or my relatability. While I show faces most of the time, I haven't been making them being that close even though lately, I am considering it more XD I just like having a more detailed displaying of the Character for others to see. Kinda hard to explain but pretty much, I am going to choose whatever appeals aesthetically to me. You know, like certain color combinations, cheerful smiles or the exact opposite XD Whatever can give me that much of a dynamic vibe at the time to the point of actually making it my Icon.

I guess, if I had to mention one preference of mine, that would be my displaying of Waifus XD I'm pretty sure most have realized that the majority of my Icons is comprised by them. Certainly, I have just as many Male Characters that I consider my favorites but it just so happens that Females have taken the lead for now !!!!
