Favourite book-to-film character adaptation?

Asked in honour of Alan Rickman, one of the best book-to-film transitions in his role as Snape. What are some of yours?

The movie adaptation of LotR was exceptional and all of the cast members where excellent in their roles.
But Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf was nearly perfect.
I also really enjoyed John Rhys-Davies as Gimli- he's a close second for me.

Lel. Agreed. The LotR movies as a whole are pretty much the best book-to-movie adaptation full stop, to my mind. An amazing bit of filmmaking.
