Yes. If they pass a law where police weren't allowed to carry firearms then more criminals would have them and the ones who protect and serve would be helpless against armed criminals
Yes. There's several reasons that I think this, but I don't want to go into too much detail right now.
In short, though, some drugs and alcohol do weird things to your body, and for situations like that you need some sort of weaponry just to keep yourself safe from your attacker.
I do, however, also think that police officers should have body cams and I think police should be better chosen than they are currently.
I also think that civilians should be armed as well.
Do you send a butcher to work without his knife, or a blacksmith without a hammer? Guns, batons, and etc are the police's tools of the trade. They enter dangerous situations often (though how often depends on the geographic location), and without a means to defend themselves, they are not police but in name only.
