Why are humans so quick to judge sad poems, when most of the time they cheer on happy or romantic poems?

Honestly, in my literature class, everyone is so quick to judge a poet's depression and his/her work to express it. It's poetry, it's there to be written, and to express the wide variety of emotions that lay deep within one's insides. I just don't understand?

Hmm, I wouldn't really know the answer to that considering I mainly see the opposite.
Whenever I studied poetry there was always much love for the more sad and dark poems. I tend to like them more too, they feel more powerful.
