Get a short, sharp knife and cut away the shavings to allow the lead to come through. Just make sure you sharpen in the direction away from you. You don't want to end up with a knife sticking out of your stomach.

I never do homework at home. I'd just snag a pencil from one of my friends at school and do the homework inbetween classes.

This ALWAYS happens!! I would either use pen anyway, use a knife to sharpen it, go out and buy one, but what i usually do is use the lead bit that broke, or wait until the next day to copy off someone.
But copying off someone can be a problem because everyonw thinks the same thing, so they come to school hoping to copy off me! So in the end none of us do it:)

Go outside and rub it on the concrete. I did that once, it was sharp in under a minute. Works way better than a pencil sharpener, too.
