Keys wrote it after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry in the War of 1812. He was held captive overnight until after the first battle, so he didn't know how the battle turned out until dawn.

I have a lot of songs that make me cry but it would have to be eather A Thousand years by Christina Perri but it would have to mostly be Love Song Requiem by Trading Yesterday.
