Is it normal to be sadistic? Normal to feel happy when people are crying?

Please, don't send me to an asylum or something....I'm just curious...okay, and a teensy bit worried about my sanity.

I've asked myself the same question, since I'm also a sadist. I think it's kind of wrong, but guess you just can't help yourself. Being a sadist is completely fine as long as you don't hurt anyone unwillingly.

Normal is relative. What's normal to you may not be normal to everyone else. People can be sadistic without being sent to an asylum. I have sadistic tendencies but I won't go out and murder a town or anything like that. As far as I am concerned as long as you don't try to kill people or mutilate them or anything like that. I think you're fine.

I mean everyone to a degree has the possibility to be sadistic. You might need to try and practice empathy towards people more often but I don't think you're that bad for being happy when someone cries.

I guess I'd need some more details on your mindset, like: are you the one making others cry? Is that the only thing that brings you a sense of happiness? If so, then you'd probably want to be concerned.

As far as feeling sadistic, I think we all feel a range of emotions. If this is the only way that you feel, again, you should be a bit concerned.

I entertain dark thoughts as much as the next person, I suppose, but they don't occupy my mind constantly. I also laugh at inappropriate things, but I think that's more a nervous reaction. Well, that's MY story anyway.

Perfectly normal if the person who's crying is someone who you really hate or if something bad happened to you and you see the pain of the others like a relief to your grief.
