Greetings, Pokemon Trainers! PeterMWou here, with my first top...well...anything, on Fanpop! I got bored sitting in my room, and rather than doing something productive, I sat down and watched all the episodes of the anime, from Kanto to now. And while I love the Pokemon anime, it's basically my childhood since 1998, there are a few things about it that I would change if I had my way with it. Now, just to let you know that TAIKAMODO posted his version of 5 Things I Would Change About The Pokemon Anime and I would expect to do the same thing. But just be clear, replace Ash and take inspiration from the manga isn't gonna help at all. So I replace numbers 5 and 3 with something different alongside edits. But everything else will be the same. So, here's 5 of them!
Number 5: Turn Pokemon Into An Anime And Manga Franchise And Get Rid Of Pokemon Is A Video Game Franchise Mindset
First of all, stop with the Pokemon is a video game franchise mindset. You know that Pokemon is not a video franchise anymore. Pokemon is now an anime and manga franchise and yet Pokemon is still marketed as a video game franchise. What the fart? No more Pokemon is a video game franchise because Pokemon is suppose to package as licensed video games. Another reason why Pokemon video games should stay licensed games is because The Pokemon Company is very protective over the Pokemon IP. End of story.
Thus, Pokemon needs to change its packaging to licensed packaging because Pokemon video games are licensed video games. That's includes main series ones like Pokemon X and Y. Tell me, which video game franchise packages as a video game franchise? Let's see, Mario, Sonic, The Legend Of Zelda, Kirby, Mega Man, Street Fighter, Metroid, Star Fox, Final Fantasy and so on. Pokemon is not one of them because Pokemon is an anime and manga franchise, not video game franchise, anime and manga franchise. It's the first anime and manga franchise where it transitioned from a video game franchise to an anime and manga franchise. That's why Pokemon video games are licensed products because Pokemon video games transitioned from a video game series to licensed video games.
Sorry to bash the Pokemon games. You know main series Pokemon games are great. But the change will not accect the anime or the games, just the franchise's classification change. That's all. As long as Nintendo or The Pokemon Company don't mind turning Pokemon games into licensed games then things will turned out fine. Moving on.
Number 4: Change The Target Audience
Okay okay, I know that Pokemon games are targeted towards children, so it only makes sense that the anime, which is there to promote the games, targets that audience too. Back in 1998 when the anime first aired, that made a lot of sense. Games were actually still for kids at that time and most kids didn't even know what Pokemon was, so targeting kids, the majority of people who would buy or play Pokemon back then was a smart move. But that was 1998, and this is nearly two decades later.
The world of gaming and it's place in the world have completely changed since the 90's. Games are now made mainly for teens and adults, standards for what makes a good game have drastically improved, and gaming has an undeniable place in society. Kids these days don't even play kids games, they tend to gravitate towards the first person shooters and sports games. Things like Pokemon are viewed as kid games, and when you're a kid, being reminded of your child status in the world is one of your top pet peeves.
The fact is, kid games as a whole are a dying breed, and while Pokemon games likely won't suffer from that, the anime will. The kids that grew up with Pokemon are teens and adults, and those teens and adults are now the bulk of people playing Pokemon. Kids don't play Pokemon because Pokemon still packages itself as a kid's game, which only pushes kids away from it because the "cool kids" play Call of Duty and NBA 2K. Am i saying suddenly make your games full of gore and death? No!
But I am saying to embrace your real audience a bit more, move into the Naruto and Dragon Ball levels of maturity. In case you're unaware, Pokemon's genre in Shonen, a genre targeted at teenage to young adult boys, a genre including most Main Stream Anime. Think Naruto, Dragon Ball, One Piece, Fairy Tail, Bleach even. All Shonen, just like Pokemon, but still able to add some maturity to their stories. Well, Fairy Tail's not the best example, but....it's got bewbs. So there.
Oh yeah, one more thing. Make the Pokemon anime target to everybody including kids and adults and make Pokemon a family friendly anime. Why? Because Pokemon is for everybody including fans. Get rid of animation words and replace with the word anime in the official Pokemon website. You know that Pokemon is anime, not animated tv series, anime. Pokemon is appropriate for everybody even if Pokemon is an anime.
C'mon Pokemon, I believe in you.
Number 3: Air More Pokemon On Cartoon Network
For those who live in the US, if you have any kids that watches Pokemon on tv, you know that Pokemon is the biggest show on kids' television and the biggest anime in the US. However, all people watch tv does these days and America original content and play if safe. The only people watch Pokemon these days is Japan and stream. That's all people watch Pokemon does these days. Also, why Cartoon Network mostly play Cartoon Network shows like Clarence and Teen Titans Go like Black Friday? That's all Cartoon Network does these days, Cartoon Network shows and Teen Titans Go. Why can't Cartoon Network plays Pokemon these days?
Why in this world now are kids watch original content like SpongeBob SquarePants and play it safe like America movies? And why would anyone think it's fun to watch Cartoon Network shows and Teen Titans Go on Cartoon Network because of them? I'm in my 20s and kids do not watch Pokemon on Cartoon Network. I just want to watch Pokemon on Cartoon Network. But these kids think that Pokemon is not popular because kids don't watch Pokemon and only watch repeats like SpongeBob on Nick. (Idiots. Pokemon is the right show for you!)
Cartoon Network needs to pay attention to Pokemon, not Cartoon Network shows and Teen Titans Go. I never watch Teen Titans Go! At first I hated that overrated show because it was way overplayed, but now I am glad. I heard that Teen Titans Go sucks and other stuff like that. Also, because of this, I want Cartoon Network to air more Pokemon and I fell in love with Pokemon on Cartoon Network. I would take Pokemon over Teen Titans Go any day! Bottom line, please air more Pokemon, Cartoon Network and decrease Teen Titans Go. Kids has to watch Pokemon on Cartoon Network. Plain and simple. I want my Pokemon reruns back.
Stupid Teen Titans Go.
Number 2: Change The Formula
One of the biggest reasons why the Pokemon anime receives so much flak is that it's been the exact same for nearly 20 years. Filler, Gym, Filler, Gym, Filler Gym, Filler, Gym, League Loss, Rinse, Repeat. While Sun & Moon sorta makes this point invalid, assuming gyms return in Gen 8 and Ash is still there, you can bet your bottom dollar he'll be right back to losing the first gym battle, coming in the top 8/4/2, and doing it all again next time. Heck, you can bet your top and middle dollars too.
Gimmie dem dolla dolla billz BOI!
Ahem.
Anyway, i'm not saying abandon Gyms entirely, but throw something refreshing into the mix! Have Ash actually win and challenge the Elite 4, have Evil Team #979 attack during the League, have Ash win via disqualification, making him determine to get a legit win next region, something! Having him get wrecked by legendaries, F(bleep)ing Cameron, and BSburn from Alan's Charizard wasn't exciting. It was like watching Ash get kicked in plums for the sixth time in a row, while eating stale Popcorn off the floor of a Movie Theater.
Bad, bad all around! This is why American shows like SpongeBob SquarePants perform this formula better than Pokemon while Pokemon is quite different. Variety over fart jokes and kids loves realistic violence.
Well who am I kidding, the anime is evolving and stop using the Ash wins badges, losing to the league and only bring Pikachu to the next region formula. At least Kalos Pokemon episodes is great and the positives are very strong. Plus, the anime finally adopt the maturity and growth from the 5th/6th gen main series games. Also, there are no gyms in Sun/Moon. So there. Plus, Pokemon Sun and Moon is design to win back the anime thanks to Ash-Greninja. It's nice that the anime is heading a new direction and while Ash going to school isn't a great replacement, we should be happy that Ash, Jessie and James are here to stay. Ash/Jessie/James really needs to stay even if the formula has to change. Let's move on.
Number 1: Explain What A Pokemon Master Actually Is
Seriously. No, I'm not joking, I'm not trolling, I'm serious guys. Think about it, we've watched Ash chase this seeming unattainable dream for nearly two decades, and after all that time, we still have no clue what exactly a Pokemon Master is. All we know is that for Ash to reach this goal he has to at least become a regional champion, and that doesn't tell us much. At least with other anime like Digimon, there's a clear goal. Naruto? Hokage, leader of the village. One Piece, Gol D. Roger's treasure. Fairy Tail? Find Igneel, and....uh....
Bewbs.
Anyway, it's hard to get truly invested in someone's goal when you have no clue what it is. Plus, it gives each new saga a stronger connection to the others if he's working towards a goal we actually know. If you were in school and had to write a paper on your goals in life, you couldn't write, "I wanna be a Hghfdrgvcrtologist" and then not explain. You'd have to tell your teacher, in the paper, what a Hghfdrgvcrtologist is!
Explain yourself, Pokemon.
And that's my list! Did you agree with it, did you hate it? What would YOU change about the Pokemon anime?
'Till next time, I've been your host, and i hope you liked the article!
Peace!

One day Ash and Pikachu where on a bike. Pikachu was on Ash's Shoulder (as always). As they where riding down the beach suddenly they got splashed in the face, There was a Pokémon in the ocean a big one too! Then the Pokémon stuck its head up it was..... LUGIA! So ash dropped his bike and ran to the nearest Poke Mart (or mark) to get poke balls. When Ash got back to the Lugia Dived back into the ocean, Ash just missed it! so Ash and Pikachu went to tell Misty and Brock what happened. Brock and Misty heard what Ash said but didn't believe him, But there was a other problem team rocket where listening threw the window and had went of to catch Lugia. They knew how strong they would be if they had Lugia. Luckily Ash saw them and knew they had been listening to him so Ash took his strongest pokemon to stop them! This might be a tought battle for Ash. To be Continued.........
